Slept On / Unknown / Hidden Gem Games That Run Well On Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 10:40am

i'm mostly looking for racing games right now, but i'm wondering if anyone knows of any hidden gems for Linux? stuff from indie devs, stuff that's kinda not too known, stuff like that. stuff that you go "huh, i've never heard of that before". anything with multiplayer would be awesome too.

one i know of is Fly Dangerous, it's open source on Github with native support.

if anyone knows of anything else, please do share and lemme know. i've recently swapped to Linux and wanna freshen up my library with some cool gems for Linux.

No controller input (on some games)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 10:30am

Tldr fast as possible.

Installed Mint/Steam/installing games..

For some reason, for some game's it doesn't detect im using controller. And I don't know why. I have it hook by cable and installed Valhime and controller work's just fine. Installed Kena, and no controller input whatsoever. Closed game, run Valhime again, controller work's. Close game, open Kena, no controller input. I'm running them from Steam (big picture) so using controller to navigate and run the game's, but for some reason Kena (so far tested-still fresh install and installing other games) doesn't detect controller at all. Using Xbox S controller (not third party). Anyone have some ideas? Because in steam all looks good.

Edit: some spelling

Fedora 40 - Keyboard Input LAG in games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 10:25am

Anyone having this issue?

Problem: New issue after upgrading to Fedora 40. At random times in Proton games (Overwatch, Sea of Thieves), keyboard input will stop for a couple seconds and then all buffered input gets inputted at once, so erratic movement, etc. ensues. Mouse input is normal.

When it Happens: Randomly every 3-20 seconds, worse when more shaders are compiling. Never used to happen before updating to Fedora 40 even though still using X11.

- Fedora 40, X11 (not wayland), NVIDIA drivers 550.78, wine-ge-8-26, kernel 6.8.9-300.fc40.x86_64

It's the same issue as https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/keyboard-lag-in-games-after-upgrading-to-fedora-40-gnome/115506 but this is on X11, not Wayland, so that doesn't fix it.

Has anyone else had this issue?

FSR 3 frame gen support for linux? Ghosts of Tsushima.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 9:02am

Is anyone able to confirm if fsr3 frame gen is working on linux? Since ghosts of tsushima is out on the steam deck, fsr3 frame gen would be sick for it. But I wasn't able to find any reports of people running this game on the deck that show off fs3 (mainly cuz this game is so new).

Also, some time ago amd said it'd be available only for dx11/dx12 games so I'm also not sure if it would work on proton. Could anyone confirm/deny this?

Halo: Master Chief Collection crashes while loading any gameplay mode

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 8:56am

I recently bought the Halo MCC from steam on sale and that time I had windows and it worked perfectly without any problem at the low settings, smooth as can be. I have an Acer Aspire 3, i3 8th gen Intel, 4gb ram, integrated graphics.

Then I switched to linux mint, i downloaded steam allowed steam play or whatever that is for all titles, steam uses proton experimental for Halo MCC, overlay is off. The game boots properly no problem I get to the home screen I can navigate anywhere change any settings but the moment I start a campaign or a firefight, during the loading screen the laptop freezes and I have to force shut it down, twice Halo MCC quit itself.

Please help me out as it is one my favourite games and I cannot go to windows just to play it 🙏

Flight Stick Troubles on Kubuntu with Steam/Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 7:37am

I've been trying to move over my various flight games from Windows to Linux, starting with the smallest (and therefore fastest to install), Nuclear Option. While I've been able to get OpenTrack (mostly) working for headtracking, I've found the game detects my flight stick as an XInput Gamepad, prohibiting me from binding the majority of my controls even remotely correctly.

I have the VKBsim Gladiator NXT Evo Premium (right handed), which Kubuntu seems to detect and acknowledge just fine at an OS level. My best guess is something about Proton/WINE is confusing the input, given I've tried with Steam input both enabled and disabled.

Does anyone know how I can fix or alleviate this issue? Thanks!

Ryujinx is not detecting any of my controllers

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 7:22am

My controllers work in all other games and emulators I've tried, but they are not listed in Ryujinx's drop-down list. The only device listed is my keyboard.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to start troubleshoot this?

I'm unsure what information I should provide for people to be able to help me, but I'll start by mentioning that I'm using Pop OS.

All AMD gaming laptop under $1000?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 6:18am

I recently purchased an Asus TUF A16 and I've been having some issues getting Linux to work properly. If I am unable to find a solution to this I will be forced to find another gaming laptop. I specifically got the A16 because it is all AMD and I want to actually use Wayland.

The frame.work is too expensive, Tuxedo computers are too expensive as well. What else is out there that is more likely to work for me? I want to stay at a similar performance level as the A16 (Ryzen 7 7735HS and Radeon RX 7700S)

Asus TUF A16 (FA617) Linux Display Flickering

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 6:12am

I just bought this ASUS TUF A16 gaming laptop from Best Buy and I'm trying to install Linux on it. However, when I do use Linux, there is an issue with the built-in display. It doesn't matter what distro I'm using (live booted into Pop!_OS, Fedora, and EndeavourOS), and it doesn't matter if I'm using Wayland or Xorg, the screen is super stuttery and there is a white line on the top of the screen. If I plug in a monitor, the monitor seems to work fine, it's just the built-in display that has an issue.

This laptop has AMD dedicated graphics, I'd like to use Wayland and play Steam games. I currently have Pop!_OS installed and I'd like to keep it if possible. Thanks!

How to play Roblox on Linux using Waydroid May 2024

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 5:53am

I managed to get Roblox working on Waydroid using libhoudini. To install libhoudini, follow the guide on https://github.com/casualsnek/waydroid\_script.

After installing libhoudini, follow these steps:

  1. Open the web browser in Waydroid.
  2. Copy https://d.apkpure.com/b/APK/com.roblox.client?version=latest into the search bar at the top. Do not press the Enter key.
  3. Press the blue search button on the on-screen keyboard.
  4. On the prompt for "Allow Browser to access photos and media on your device," press "Allow."
  5. Press the "Download" button.
  6. Go to the Files application inside of Waydroid.
  7. Go to the Downloads folder.
  8. There should be one file in the Downloads folder. If it's still downloading, wait for the download to finish.
  9. Right-click the file and click "Open with."
  10. A prompt saying "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source" will appear. Click "Settings."
  11. Enable "Allow from this source."
  12. Press the back button.
  13. Click "Install."

If you want to use a controller, run the following code:

waydroid prop set persist.waydroid.udev true waydroid prop set persist.waydroid.uevent true

Make sure to plug in the controller after Waydroid starts. If the controller was plugged in before Waydroid starts, the controller won't be recognized and you'll need to unplug it and plug it back in.

Note: If libhoudini for some reason doesn't work, you can try installing libndk, but from my testing, only libhoudini seems to work. You can install libndk by using the Waydroid script in the first link provided.

Need a GPU recommendation for my AMD Ryzen 7800X3D SFF gaming build.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 5:02am

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HjBQz6

There are so many compatible video cards and I don't know what to pick? My thing is I need it to work with Linux (Debian stable) cause that's what I will be running.

I think I want to avoid GeForce and stick with Radeon (AMD) cause it has better support in Linux?

I have an ultrawide monitor at 5120x1440 but I'd game at narrower resolution.

Any advice?

Steam not opening

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 4:35am

So as of yesterday i tried opening steam and it gave me a bunch of errors about flatpak not being installed so I tried fixing that. It got to the point where i got the message telling me to run "flatpak install org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.Debug.default//23.08" in the terminal, which i did, and it installed successfully but when i try to open steam i get absolutely nothing not even an error message. Ive tried restarting my pc multiple times and still nothing. Im so confused im not extremely tech savvy

Only reason im using flatpak version of steam is because a similar thing happened ages ago with the normal version of steam so i switched to flatpak and it worked fine but now flatpak isnt working

Nioh 2 Crash Under Lutris

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 May 2024 - 12:05am

(Crossposted from wine_gaming.) Hello, all. I'm having trouble running Nioh 2 on Artix Linux after a major system upgrade (i.e., motherboard, CPU, memory change; also programs moved to a new, separate drive mounted to the same directory). I managed to get it working perfectly long before the upgrade, but when time came to reinstall Wine and Lutris, things went ugly: the game wouldn't ever make it past a black screen. Here are the error logs under two variations of the settings that once worked:

Nioh 2 Wine Error w/ DXVK: https://pastebin.com/2j8mczdt
Nioh 2 Wine Error w/o DXVK: https://pastebin.com/Qa6Fr9Zj
Nioh 2 Wine Error w/o DXVK, accompanying Windows error message: https://pastebin.com/BcbUkPPv

With DXVK, the game's window doesn't even come up. Without it, it does, but it crashes before anything shows. Here is some system information:

CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X
Memory: 128 GB
OS: Artix Rolling GPU: Radeon RX 6950 XT GPU Driver: AMDGPU Mesa Version: Mesa 24.0.6-arch1.2 Display Server: Xorg DE: Xfce

If any other information is needed, please ask. Help would be much appreciated.
