Flickering with frame delay in KDE 6.0 with Nvidia proprietary drivers (dkms) with Wayland but not with X11/Xorg. (XWayland?) Can you share any solutions that I may not have tried yet that might work?

Hi friends.

I have flickering in all my games on Steam/Lutris/Heroic etc. It's a pretty strange flicker, because it's not a horizontal tear. It's like the screen is showing old frames, then your screen goes back in time for a few milliseconds, and it's very annoying and unplayable.

Something like this:

FPS: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 10, 7, 8, 9, 11...

This happens when I use Wayland, but works correctly when I use X11/Xorg. But I need to get this working because I have more fps and better performance in Wayland.

I've tried launching the games through MangoHUD and GameScope separately (with Steam, Lutris and Heroic), but for some reason this crashes/freezes the game and doesn't make it work in Wayland.

I have been reading many reddit threads, forums, google, etc., but very few people have managed to solve it, and they do not say exactly how to solve it

I've read things like "in the next update it will be fixed", but it's been months, and the problem persists, so I'd like to try to find another method to fix it.

I am using EndeavourOS Arch with Nvidia 1050 ti, proprietary drivers (dkms), and everything updated to the latest version.

Is there any solution or anything you can share with me that might help me solve this? Or is the only thing I can do is wait?

Messup with Browser and link associations

For context, I know this is probably an extremely dumb fix and I just havent probably searched the right thing, but i have tried, and the steam deck is my first primary use of a Linux distro.
I messed up with setting up nexus to go through mod organiser 2 , accidently hit another program quickly, now whenever i go to download a file through nexus, it opens up the game i accidently selected. How do i go about removing this association?

Infinite loading in Sea of Thieves

I launch the game, the window takes a long time to appear, then I see it windowed, then it goes to full screen, and then the rare logo appears, then the loading of sea of thieves, and I wait for the logo on the bottom right to stop moving.

I've tested several versions of proton, from experimental to 9 to 6, and it doesn't work.

I'm on Archlinux with a 12700KF and a gtx 1050

Team Fortress 2 starting in insecure mode with Proton

Hi guys, I'm waiting for Fedora 40 to release today. I have an Nvidia 4070ti GPU and love gaming, but I'm completely new to Linux. Only used Linux Mint and had a good experience. Should I upgrade and will it be frustrating to set it up for gaming?

Linux mint was fairly easy, I could install the drivers from their own driver update manager and after installing Wine I could play WOW private server out of the box. Hope for the same experience on Fedora 40.

Gaming/RADV and StableDiffusion/ROCM, how?

So I'm getting kinda confused as to the state of this. I've got a gaming setup with mesa/RADV configured just the way I want it on EndeavourOS. Question is: how do I go about getting ROCM-support working for StableDiffusion without "poisoning" my RADV setup (as in which packages do I need)?

As I understand it, some time ago the ROCM-drivers basically replaced the RADV-drivers, or put them in that 50/50 state like having both RADV and amdvlk installed at the same time with their particular brand of problems following suit. Nowadays, if understand it correctly, the rocm-drivers have been...split(?)....from the amdgpu-pro drivers so they can be installed separately without messing up the radv-stuff...or...?

First foray into rocm-stuff here, so a bit clueless.

VM with GPU passthrough vs Wine/proton

Which is better in terms of performance, wine or VM? Because I heard about VM... + GPU passthrough. I saw LinusTT doing several VMs on one GPU, so he could have about 4 CODs on one RTX3080. I am interested in whether it would be better to play with one VM (and GPU-PT) on Linux than through Wine/proton. I know it is dumb question cuz u need emulating whole os than use translation layer but they're already some barebone Windows. e.g Tiny is debloated and it takes only how much as Linux... I asked GPT on "his" opinion and answer was confusing - he prioritized VM to be "better"

Running third-party EXE with Proton prefx

Hi all:

I need to run FO3Edit. I have Fallout 3 through Steam running through Proton Experimental in its own WINE prefix as usual.

I've had to run plenty of third-party EXEs to patch the game so it'll run, and I've been doing that through my system copy of WINE 9. That's worked fine so far because those other programs haven't been hardcoded to look for a specific file in a specific location like xEdit does - if it can't find FALLOUT.INI in My Documents/My Games it won't boot. It's looking to the registry of the WINE prefix it's being run under to establish this, and when it doesn't find it it refuses to do anything else.

I can't run FO3Edit through my system WINE like everything else because the registry keys are managed by Steam in their own prefix.

It seems to me like there are two possible solutions to this problem:

A. Run FO3Edit.exe through Proton Experimental by adding a new game to Steam - I've tried this already, but it doesn't work because Steam makes it own Proton prefix to run the EXE. Is there a way to run it using the registry of Fallout 3's Proton prefix? I don't know how to accomplish this.

B. Patch/symlink the Fallout 3 prefix registry to my system WINE' registry and run it through system WINE.

Anyone know if either of these are possible? Thanks!
