If you run into the same problem as me, that Steam-Achievments for "The 39 Steps" are not working on the Linux Platform, do the following:

cd ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/The39Steps
ln -s lib/libsteam_api.so libsteam_api.so

Now your Achievments will work also on Steam for Linux!
