3D Controller Overlay +: version 1.4.2 released

3D Controller Overlay + (3dco+ for short) has been released in version v1.4.2.

Following version 1.4.0 and 1.4.1, which brought the “What’s New” window and network fixes among other things, this update focuses on the onboarding experience for new users and on the Linux AppImage. On a fresh install, the Settings window now shows an explanatory panel with a “Create Controller” button instead of an empty interface. The AppImage was also rebuilt with the current appimagetool and a statically linked runtime, dropping the libfuse2 dependency - important for newer distributions like Ubuntu 24.04+ that no longer ship the library by default.

This update focused on improving the initial user experience and modernizing Linux compatibility:

  1. First-Launch Improvements: The Settings window now displays a “No controllers created yet” panel on fresh installations. This explanatory screen guides new users to create their first controller and unpack bundled models, featuring a dedicated “Create Controller” button for convenience.

  2. Linux AppImage Modernization: The AppImage was rebuilt using the current appimagetool with a statically linked runtime, replacing the deprecated AppImageKit. This change eliminates the libfuse2 dependency, making the application compatible with newer Linux distributions (Ubuntu 24.04+) that don’t include this library by default.
