CouchPlay: version 0.4.0 released

CouchPlay, a split-screen multiplayer tool for Linux, has been released in version v0.4.0.

The tool launches multiple isolated Gamescope instances, each with its own controller, audio, and user account, making split-screen play possible even for games without native split-screen support.

Version 0.4.0 is a bigger feature release focused on SteamOS support, a Flatpak-first install, and various cross-distro improvements.

Feature release: SteamOS support, Flatpak-first install, and cross-distro hardening

  • Flatpak as the default GUI installation method
  • SteamOS compatibility via systemd-sysext helper images
  • Steam Controller support + multi-device controller grouping
  • Root helper-based input device monitoring
  • Support for non-systemd init systems (OpenRC, runit)
  • Sunshine-based streaming for split-screen sessions
  • Controller exit chord functionality
  • Various bug fixes for copy-relocation, Flatpak isolation, and controller detection
