Beyond Dark Castle: sequel to the Mac classic released

Beyond Dark Castle, the official sequel to the 1986 Mac classic Dark Castle, has been released on Steam - with native Linux support.

The game is an action-adventure puzzle-platformer in which hero Duncan has to cross a larger, nonlinear castle full of traps, weapons, dungeons and five magical orbs while the Black Knight causes trouble once again. The game costs €10.25.

It is developed by Ludit Holdings, a studio founded by Mark Stephen Pierce, co-creator of the original Dark Castle series. Under the hood it runs on Indigo Runtime, a reimplementation of the classic 1980s Mac environment that emulates old Mac applications without Apple’s original ROM or operating system software.

An action-adventure puzzle-platformer that pushed the limits of the genre.

More slapstick character animation and dark humor

Bombs to blast through barriers and copter packs to master

The Black Knight survived, and Duncan’s quest gets bigger, stranger, and more dangerous. Beyond Dark Castle expands the original cult classic into a deeper action-adventure, with new rooms, new hazards, new tools, and a far more ambitious castle to conquer.

Collect the magic orbs, master the fireball and shield, and push through towers, catacombs, swamps, breweries, labyrinths, and the Black Knight’s final defenses. The challenge is still precise and unforgiving, but the adventure is broader, richer, and even more satisfying to master.
