Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo legion Pro 7 gen 10. It's starting to get driver support with 7.0 kernel but there are still a lot of things that don't work. For example I'm trying to setup a custom fan curve but the new drivers (lenovo_wmi_other) do not expose pwm in hwmon but only fanX_target. I tried coolercontrol but it can read the fan speet but not write it and from what I understood all other applications need pwm. I'd like to avoid writing a script to write fanX_target since I fear I'll break something so Iif you know if there is another way it would be appreciated

me instale linux mint hace dos dias, quiero jugar R.E.P.O y cuando toco jugar se queda en "Detener" y después vuelve a "Iniciar" me fije con Protom 9 y 8, actualize los driver la tarjeta gráfica, sistema y nose que mas (me ayudo en todo gemini) y aun asi no me deja iniciar ¿me ayudan o me quedo pelado antes de solucionar el problema? gracias.

I've been able to run EA and its games just fine through Lutris for several months now, but recently it stopped launching. Now it just gives me an error on the EA install window every time I try to reinstall it. I've tried pretty much everything I could find online, so I'm not really asking for tech advice here, but -

- I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue recently? I've heard the EA app always has been a pain to run on Linux with every new update

Sorry for the slightly inflammatory title, hopefully it gets me some eyes on this post ;P

I've finally decided to move away from Windows. I already use Linux at work as my work desk, but never tried it for home use. I setup Ubuntu to dual boot with windows for two months now, and mostly it's great and I haven't seen the need to boot windows once.

I do have some struggles with some games and knowing very little about Linux I'm not sure if it's my hardware, Linux setup or the games I'm playing.

Here's my somewhat outdated setup:

• Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
• Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z390 UD
• Intel® Core™ i5-9600K × 6
• 16.0 GB
• NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti
• Two monitors:
  • Primary display: 4K, scale 150%
  • Secondary display: 1080p, scale 150%

My my main use case is playing turn based games on the primary display while browsing on the secondary. I'm seeing these behaviors:

• Game starts on secondary display - some can be dragged to the primary display, some won't (Galciv4 https://store.steampowered.com/app/1357210/Galactic_Civilizations_IV/)
• After a game is positioned on the primary display, clicking on the browser in the secondary display causes display on both monitors to go haywire: Applications switch between displays usually ending with the game on the secondary display and the browser on the primary display.
• The positioning of the monitors changed - essentially swapping side (i.e. to move the mouse cursor between them I need to move the cursor to the furthest side of the monitor instead of through the center.

Old world (https://store.steampowered.com/app/597180/Old_World) and The Last Spell (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1105670/The_Last_Spell) and others presented this behavior.

Sometimes I get really crazy stuff (this is from both monitors) happening and the system will require a reboot:

I experimented with steam launch arguments. Some had no effect, some prevented games from starting. I tried disabling the secondary monitors - it'd turn back on by itself and the same shenanigans ensued.

Is this a general Linux problem, or it may differ between distributions? Am I playing games which are too old / devs didn't bother to support Linux properly?

I tried playing minecraft java in my laptop (which has a 4K display), and the game automatically plays at my native resolution, the linux java version of the game just don't let you change your resolution in the options unfortunately.

i looked it up and saw that some people go around it by using gamescope through steam, but when i add the non steam game, the prism launcher just doesn't run (i have the appimage version), so i can't use it through steam either.

Any alternative solution please ? running the game in 4K is too much for my integrated graphics and i have bad framerate, in windows i was just using lossless scaling, to rescale the game like i wanted.

For info i have bazzite gnome version, and im using the prism launcher like i said.

What’s your take on Proton after ~7 years?

Feels kind of crazy how much things have changed. Back then Linux gaming was pretty rough, and now with Proton a lot of games just… work.

But then you look at the repo and it still has 5k+ open issues

From your experience, how much of your library is actually playable without issues? Like truly smooth, no weird bugs. Does 70-80% sound fair or is that too optimistic?

Also, do you feel Proton is "good enough" now to daily drive Linux for gaming or are there still too many edge cases?

Curious to hear how it’s been for others.

1. I used Linux mint for a total of 8 days yeah yeah first day I was testing the the waters terminal file tree on the second day I installed steam and some games with proton ofc I started playing games, it wasn't lagging but stuttering so much I looked it up why it could be 1. high mouse poll rate I did that still stuttering, then I updated my drivers still nothing. Then I found multiple post about mint being outdated for games and all that so thats it.
2. It keeps freezing and sometimes crashing the entire computer
3. It looks like windows to much and I get the ick :'D

So I can't play for shit its crashing and all that and not as customisable like cachy and cachy is actualy made for games. I'll keep yall updated on how cachy goes

I'm thinking of getting a laptop with either a 4050 or 4060 if I'm lucky but how is the performance on linux.

I will be running something bleeding edge like cachyos or nixos unstable if i learn it.

With kde plasma and wayland only so how is it?

Btw i am looking at an lenovo loq or a asus tuf a15 so if anybody have specific experience please feel free to share

Hi guys, im noticing abit more audio instabilty in games lately. Good example is crimson desert. Its not constant but its enough to be distracting and doesnt happen in most other games i play. There dont seem to be any posts about audio issues from steam forums either so im leaning towards a linux speciifc issue.

I have to use ge-proton for wayland and HDR support. Is there anything i can do to fix or at least try?

Hey all! recently I have been having the strangest issue, Scrap Mechanic has been getting concerning low FPS (~40-50, although can go as low as 10-20, when plugged in, and ~10 when on bat. power), after a quick check with System Monitor, I found the usage on my dGPU to be nearly 0%. As you could imagine, I'm pissed! I have tired nearly everything I know, but to no avail. This has been an issue for quite some time, and I'm just now getting quite tired of my laptop's behavior when it comes to this. The performance should not depend on if its running on AC or battery power (yeah, I know this behavior is intended, but its seriously annoying and seems to not be toggleable), and my dGPU should be more than an expensive paperweight. if anyone wishes to help, here are some specs:

Framework Laptop 16
Fedora 43 w/ KDE Plasma
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS
GPU 1: AMD Radeon RX 7700S [Discrete]

I'm trying to get some modding happening for witcher 3, cyberpunk, et al.

And the lack of mod manager options that work with nexus mods collections is pretty much stopping me in my tracks.

I've attempted a number of guides to get vortex workign but with no lunch, the current version just simply doesn't work on Linux as best I can tell.

Do I need to just give up mods on Linux ? How do people commonly work around this? I couldn't see anyhting in the FAQ

I've tried countless guides, with the native and the proton version, I've tried BG3MM, MO2, running them through proto tricks, and nothing works. I feel so lost right now bc I can't get it to work no matter what I do. Is there any updated guide or something?

I recently started a new project: a plugin for Decky.

I've always wanted to display my collections in the game mode UI of my Steam Deck, just like I do on my PC. It all started with this idea, and it grew with suggestions from the community and some extra thoughts I had during development.

Now, the first major milestone is complete. I have improvements and new features to add, but from here on out, everything will be brand new and far beyond what I initially imagined. So, come share it with you all.

My desktop is running Linux and the VM would use Linux too.

I have a RX 6700 XT, is it possible to get close to native (90%?) performance inside a vm? Anyone doing that too?
