How would one get an Origin game to run on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 22:16

I buy my games on GOG or STEAM. However, there is one specific game that I am interested in and I don't think it can be bought anywhere else. The game is called the SIMS MEDIEVAL.

How could I get an origin game to run on Linux? Is it possible?

Performance on Mint ( Path of Exile 1)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 22:14

Hello,

Due to many problems with windows 11 i recently switched to Linux Mint. I installed steam and i’m using Proton 9.0.4( tried experimental and hotfix too). Other game are running great like Satisfactory, smooth fps and stable.

But for some reason with poe i get input lag, bad fps( like 15 to 35) and the game looks bad in general(textures). I‘ve downloaded the newest kernel and ive checked ProtonDB for adjustments, however none are really working. I also tried turning off precache shaders in Steam settings, but performance only got worse.

Any further advice?

System: Ryzen 7 5800x3d RTX 6600 8GB 32 GB RAM Samsung Evo 970. 2 TB Tried Vulcan and DX 12, no real difference. Thanks.

Switched to Pop!OS from W11, having problems...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 21:54

I have a Asus TUF Gaming fx505d with Nvidia GTX 1050, 32GB RAM, 256GB SSD. And a Logitech G920 Steering wheel and pedals (Oversteer seems to be working for this).

As a Windows 10/11 machine, I could barely run Assetto Corsa and BeamNG (through Steam), crashing occasionally, with graphics on the lowest settings.

So I made the switch to Pop!OS. BeamNG runs about as well/poorly as it did before, but Assetto Corsa will not run at all.

I have added "gamemoderun mangohud %command%" to the Launch Options for both games in Steam. And I have tried several versions of Proton in the Compatibility settings.

I have gone through a lot of comments and cannot seem to figure out what I am missing.

Can anyone spot the issue? Does anyone have a guide they think I should reference?

Does Bottles actually work?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 21:32

Kept seeing this thing called “Bottles” which make games on Windows run on Linux. Tried looking up any gameplay with Bottles being used, yet every single video I find that talks about bottles are only tutorials and never show Bottles actually RUNNING the games. I’m still hesitant on making the switch to Linux because of it, so I might as well ask those that use Bottles: Does it actually run Windows games or games with kernel-level anti-cheat?

hunt showdown graphical and performance issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 20:56

I loaded up hunt showdown earlier today and saw these weird glowing orbs on my menu screen, turning post process quality to ultra fixed it in the menu, but when i loaded into a game some were still there. Then i had really bad frame drops, and my guns diddnt load in (which im not sure if its the game or me accidentally deleting my loadout). I checked my system monitor and everything was fine with my browser closed. Though i only have 16 gbs of ram so that might be a problem. Just came onto here to ask if anyone else had these issues and knew how to solve them.

Hey all! I'm developed a psychological horror game. You've been very helpful to me before. Thank you. It's out now!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 20:51

Hey everyone!

I mentioned the psychological horror game I was working on last month, and you all gave me so much support. Now it's on Steam with Linux Support!

After 6 months of working on our days off, we released our game today! It’s a small game, but seeing our first project gain attention is an incredible milestone for our tiny indie team!

You can check out our game here.

Thank you so much ^^

USB in Linux: how to stop them from powering down

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 20:34

I've a joystick that also has a built in sound card. It works in linux but if there is no sound being played after like 10 minutes or so, the joystick ceases to receive power & the sound cuts off. I have to unplug the stick's usb and replug it to get it running again.

Being new to linux I asked perplexity AI and.. well, im not very convinced as to the answers. So I ask here.

How would I go around telling linux (Omarchy) to stop powering down/sleep mode the joystick/sound card?

What Linux distro for Lenovo IdeaPad 720-15IKB (i5-7200U + RX 560 2GB) that actually performs well?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 19:48

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a Lenovo IdeaPad 720-15IKB with the following specs:

  • Intel i5-7200U (2C/4T)
  • AMD Radeon RX 560 (2 GB VRAM)
  • 20 GB RAM
  • 512 GB SSD Currently running Windows 11.

I’m trying to switch to Linux to squeeze more life out of it, but I’ve had some trouble.
I tried Bazzite and Linux Mint, but both performed noticeably worse than Windows — sluggish desktop, bad performance in games and overall laggier performance.

I was expecting Linux to be lighter, so I’m guessing this is related to drivers or the Intel + AMD hybrid GPU setup.

Has anyone run Linux successfully on this laptop or similar hardware?
Which distro (and desktop environment) gives the best performance and stability for this kind of system?
I’m open to Fedora, Arch-based, or Ubuntu-based or any other options — whatever works best with my AMD hardware.

Any advice on Mesa/kernel versions or GPU driver setup would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Do you recommend the game for Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 19:37

It sounds silly, but I'm bored of playing the same old games, so I'm going to try something different. What are some recommendations for games to play on Linux?

(To give you an idea, my two favorite games I play on Linux are MineTest/Lunati and OpenArena.)

SecureBoot really keeps me from making a serious shift

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. Oktober 2025 - 19:35

I would love to try out more Gaming on Linux. Even got myself a 9070XTX. But yeah, bad life decisions made me obey to the lord of kernel level anti cheat which started dating secureboot enforcement

If it would just be as easy as dual booting into your linux of choice (really am interested in the out of box performance of cachyOS).

But as long as you avoid touching your secureboot on UEFI, to me it seems, you will not be able to boot from anything not supporting secureboot (have I given up too early ?)

Has anyone tampered with this? Does it work properly, to maybe temporarily turn off SecureBoot, install linux - maybe even opt it for secureboot itself - and then turn it back on (without windows booting off-secureboot)?

If its just some pieces of experiences you made with this… i am trying to figure if its worth digging in my free time :)
