Issues running proton/dxvk games on AMD 9070 XT
Hi, one month ago I committed to an overdue upgrade of my system and decided to go with Linux for my new daily driver. I'm a returning user, but I haven't had many good experiences with Linux on the desktop. Nevertheless I decided to give it a go. I'm under no delusion that my system is somehow special, but what I went through is infuriating.
First, my specs and system parameters are as follows:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16 GB
- RAM: TeamGroup T-Create Expert DDR5 2x16 GB @ 6000 MHz
- MOBO: Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7
- WM/DE: KDE Plasma v6.3.5 (KWin/X11)
- Distro: EndeavourOS
- Kernel: 6.14.6-zen1-1-zen
I've also installed the following packages, when I initially installed the system:
- mesa 1:25.0.5-1,
- lib32-mesa 1:25.0.5-1,
- xf86-video-amdgpu 23.0.0-2,
- vulkan-radeon 1:25.0.5-1,
- lib32-vulkan-radeon 1:25.0.5-1
I made sure to avoid amdvlk and other problematic drivers. I followed the guide to installing them from lutris.
I then tried running overwatch 2, among us and ultrakill on this system and I've been unable to get even a single one of those to boot more than a handful of time on the best days. That is 1 in rougly 20 attempts. Once Overwatch manages to boot (haven't had much luck with any other games) it actually runs fairly well and does not crash.
My friend also has an arch based system, more or less identical to mine, however he has an NVIDIA gpu and everything for him is a click away. Similarly I've read tons of reviews on protondb from people with AMD based systems on the same distro running without a hitch, so I'm completely lost as to what is the problem.
I've been able to launch wine apps like ltspice without any issues. I'm also positive it may have nothing to do with vulkan, since Team Fortress 2 runs natively using vulkan and I had zero issues with it. I also streamed on OBS using vulkan hardware encoding and I've done some rendering in blender in cycles with HIP on my GPU.
I have no idea what the issue is, no one seems to know either, here's a list of things I tried so far:
- checked different wine versions (now I'm running wine-staging),
- checked every proton version, including proton-ge-custom,
- tried disabling the iGPU in the bios,
- checked all permissions on my drives,
- moved my games and proton to the system drive,
- played with tons of launch parameters for respective games,
- updated drivers and installed 32 bit versions of them,
- checked glibc versions,
- tried wayland,
- upgraded my bios out of sheer desperation,
- tried running with and without gamescope, with and without steam overlay,
- tried different kernels (right now running linux-zen)
I can provide logs that proton shits out, since the DXVK ones don't exist. Games don't get far enough into the boot process to even produce those logs. 99% of the time I don't even see a single window spawning. I see a bunch of wine related processes dancing in the system monitor, but they all die. I can't decipher the logs, because I'm not a programmer, but this has been pretty frustrating 2 weeks of troubleshooting a pretty stock install, minus the wallpaper change.
Am I the only one experiencing this? Are mesa drivers outdated or broken? Is my system somehow possessed? Please help, I'm one step away from giving up and returning to win10.

Doom the Dark Ages FSR/XESS Not Working
I can only get the graphics to display anything if I use TAA. I've tried using the latest mesa drivers from the git but nothing changes.

GPU: 6900XT
Fedora KDE
Anyone else experiencing this?

Can't get 8bitDo Ultimate 2C to work on Debian 12 KDE
I wanted to use it via 2.4 dongle since my pc don't have bluetooth. I've tried different drivers such as: xpad, xpadneo, xone. Bun each of them gave same result, and my gamepad wasn't detected neither by kde, tester in browser, nor steam. I don't understand what could be the issue.
(P.s sorry if it's a stupid question or I didn't provide some needed info, it's my first day on Linux)

Linux, Steam and Force-Feedback/Vibration Driving-Wheel
Hi,
i have archlinux running, a Ryzen 5600 32GB RAM, NVidia 1050TI.
I have achieved to get Assetto Corsa installed on this Linux. It runs quite well, but i have some questions:
What do i need to do/install/tweak to get a (cheap) Forecefeed-back-wheel installed?
I have a cheap wheel, its a Speedlink Drift O.Z., bought somewhen in 2019 or 2020, perhaps earlier. This wheel can be used to control Assetto Corsa, wheel and Throttle/Brakes and Gearshifting works well.
This wheel is "told" on the box (i still have this) that is has Vibration. But i can not get this to work.
The wheel can be set to "normal" and "XBox"-mode, both modes don't vibrate in any way.
I am interested in buying a cheap wheel at Ali-Express, 270 Degree (min is 180 Degree) with Force Feedback. WIll Force-Feedback be used with Linux or what do i have to do to get this started?
Thanks for your help...

Need help with faugus launcher and Easy Anti Cheat
So it's more specifically with the ubisoft connect version of watch dogs 2.
on protondb, people say they have got it working but as far as i can tell thats only the steam version, basically i'm trying to get it working on faugus launcher, i tried it first with bottles but that didn't work either.
idk if it cannot be done but i just think since it works on the steam version (which launches ubisoft connect anyway) it would work but idk.
any help would be appreciated :D

Why is vulkan having issues on fedora, but not ubuntu?
I recently switched from ubuntu to fedora, and it has been flawless and/or better, except for beamng.drive where running it in the vulkan mode causes the screen to flicker black. I have tried updating and installing mesa drivers and other drivers but no fix so far.
I don't want to use the DX11 mode because it runs at like 50fps as opposed to vulkan on ubuntu that got 80+fps

Yet another idea how to solve anticheat problem
Hello everyone,
I'll say at the start that I'm high level programmer(don't mix that up, high level languages are simpler than low level ones), I mainly work with DB's and python I'm not very knowledgeable about kernel so my ideas may not be applicable.
I've been thinking about possible solutions apart from what was already proposed on this reddit.
Currently proposed ideas:
only known applicable solution I'm aware about and is realistic is closed kernel that can't be easily tampered with and that was already mentioned in few discussions.
this would be simplest and most applicable solution we could have, one provider creates closed source version of kernel and when you'd like to play anitcheat game that requires kernel access/safe kernel, you enable that kernel.
pros:
- games that have stricter anti cheat policy will allow access for that specific user to access their servers, potentially
cons:
- proprietary kernel version that is against spirit of the system and technically GNU GPL license
- kernel is obfuscated and you cant be 100% sure its safe, you have to trust the provider
My idea:
This idea is very simple on paper but may be horrible logistically at best it would be slightly inconvenient for maintainers of distros, lets create checksum and then encrypt(technically compress) that checksum in deterministic way into shorter key that can be saved for later authentication
Translating from bit technical mambo-jumbo this would be encrypted snapshots of kernel state at specific moments which would allow authentication for quite simple anticheat module that would simply lookup that signature in approved signed keys provided by maintainers of specific distros. this property would need to be immutable and there should be no way to spoof it.
pros:
simple verification process from end user this technically should provide same security level
no security impact on end user machine
cons:
longer boot process as whole kernel would need to be checked and then a key from that checksum would need to be generated.
developers would have to be willing to create a new module to their anti cheats that would check authenticity of the key provided by user, this should however be fairly simple even if they would create their own DB's for that
if there would be no one provider for those signed keys this would be hell a lot of a logical hassle for maintainer that would like to use this system
distro maintainers would need to regenerate this key with every major change to kernel, and system image.
uncertain aspects:
I'm not sure how to ensure this property cant be spoofed
I'm not sure how much adhoc changes on Kernel can be done without reboot and how much cheats would need to work on kernel level.
I'm counting on some critique of the idea and confirmation whether this could be even implemented.
if it cant be implemented or there would be no way to prevent spoofing of that property sorry for wasting your time dear readers.

Proton / Wine window completely transparent
As the title says I have this issue, you can see on the attached screenshot. The window is completely empty. It's a games setup running through Steam Proton. I tried several Proton and Proton-GE version, also Wine-GE through Lutris. All the same issue.
On X11 it's working fine.
I'm using Nvidia (3070 with the latest 570 driver).
Any ideas how to fix this?
The same setup works on my Steam Deck and, as I said before, also on GNOME with X11 on the same machine.
I’m using EndeavourOS with latest GNOME and everything updated through yay. My specs: Ryzen 7 3800X, Asus Prime-P X57 mainboard, 32gb ram, Gigabyte Aorus 3070.
SOLVED: Proton-GE 10.3 seems to fix this!

I'm having an issue with Steam
I'm having an issue where I can't select anything from the list (like Proton versions or storage drives). When I try to select "Proton Experimental," the whole list disappears, and nothing gets applied. Anyone else facing this or know a fix?
