Por que compartilho?
Como migrei recentemente do Windows (sem dual-boot), quis testar com meu hardware real. Surpresas:
- Zero terminal para jogos/configurações essenciais
- Compatibilidade NVIDIA melhor que o esperado
- Performance próxima ao Windows no mesmo jogo
Aviso importante:
- Não tenho canal/blog vinculado
- Benchmarks são meus (hardware real)
- Objetivo: discutir experiência prática
Discussão:
- Alguém testou jogos similares no Mint 22?
- Sugestões para otimizar Vulkan em GPUs Turing?
- Ferramentas GUI que valem a pena?
(Se útil, comento prints do setup depois)

What's the current meta for getting video players to work in VRChat?
I'm having a pretty good experience overall using my Quest2 on Linux with WiVRn/ALVR, but one of the small annoyances I'm facing is the lack of video player support in VRC. I've already tried a bunch of different proton versions (GE-Proton9-22-rtsp17; Proton-GE-RTSP; 9.0-4; GE-10-3; GE-10-4) as well as some launch arguments like --enable-avpro-in-proton --enable-hw-video-decoding but nothing seems to work, all I can see is a black screen where the video should be. At least I'm not crashing or anything, but it would be nice if at least basic youtube video playback was working.
Does anyone have any solutions?
Some info about my setup:
- OS: Arch (btw), "stock" kernel 6.14.7
- Headset: Quest 2
- VR Runtime: WiVRn, connected via Link cable
- VRChat: Latest version from Steam, no beta
- CPU: R9 9950X3D
- GPU: RTX 3070
- My current launch args: PROTON_LOG=0 XR_RUNTIME_JSON=/run/host/usr/share/openxr/1/openxr_wivrn.json PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/wivrn/comp_ipc %command% --enable-avpro-in-proton --enable-hw-video-decoding --affinity=FFFF --process-priority=2 --main-thread-priority=2 -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080

Easy distro for a linux newbie kid
My old PC is about to move for the 10yo kid as a low end Linux gaming rig.
I can manage with any distro but I'd like this one to be a simple one so he can make it his own.
- I'd like it to be simple to use.
- Good support with Nvidia & Steam.
- Automatic updates.
- Stable but recent updates.
Which distro should I pick?

Running OpenSuse Thumbleweed, recommendations for a Gaming controller?
Hey everybody.
The followings spec are of my system:
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20250531
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Kernel Version: 6.14.6-2-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 8600G w/ Radeon 760M Graphics
Memory: 31.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: B650 AORUS ELITE AX V2
System Version: Default string-WCP
My question is which controller would you recommend? My other generic controller broke down, because of a cable break, so it works on and off depending on how the cable is moved...

Black screen when launching Cyberpunk on Nvidia Optimus laptop
Hi all. I'm trying to run Cyberpunk on my Dell Precision using Heroic.
When I start up Cyberpunk, it starts up, but it just shows a black screen. I can hear audio working.
I found similar issues from other people
Setup is as follows:
- Fedora 41 (can't upgrade because no CUDA repo for Fedora 42 yet)
- Nvidia driver 570.133.20 from Nvidia's CUDA repository (575.51.03 causes issues)
- Kernel version 6.14.6-200.fc41.x86_64
- Running on Wayland using sway, usually playing Steam games works without issues.
- Display is connected to iGPU, game should be running on Nvidia GPU (based on memory allocations shown by `nvidia-smi`, it is indeed running on the Nvidia card)
Anyone here knows how to work around this?

SteamOS for Desktop?
I will preface this but saying I'm completely new to Linux gaming, and still a Linux noob overall. I took a class on college and used Mint over 10 years ago as a bit of a experiment. I also had a Steam Deck for a bit, but that's really it. Forgive me if I say something that is well known, or easy to figure out but I'm just seeing what things could look like.
I have a PC that I use in my living room solely for gaming, and it is all AMD based. I'm interested in deeping my toes into Linux based gaming, so I'm seeing what my options are mostly for OS. I'm curious if SteamOS is possible to use on a desktop machine, or if I'd be better served going back to something like Mint that I have some familiarity with. As this machine is solely for gaming, SteamOS does seem very appealing as it's very user friendly but I don't know what the state of this is for desktops. I know more PC handhelds are starting to use it, but I don't know how well that's translates.
I'm currently running a 5800 non X and 7800XT; I heard driver support on Linux is better with AMD so should I be pretty well set in that regard for driver support?
Thank you in advance any advice and tips.

Activate HDR (gnome) on startup of games (auto HDR start game)
Hi,
I use some HDR games with "PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 and PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1" on GE 10.4 but want that gnome use HDR all the time. Is there a solution to activate HDR on startup of a game? My monitor switch to HDR mode only ifgnome HDR is active.

I do Nintendo Switch Homebrew and Oculus Quest Homebrew, what is the best OS for that along with gaming?
I’m using CachyOS rn but I’m having issues out of some random flickering in Dead by Daylight (the main game I’m playing right now). I want seamless gameplay with it but I’m unsure what distro would be best, or what tweaks I could make to fix my existing Cachy build. It doesn’t really matter to me if it’s Arch based or not… I’ve looked into Pop OS and Bazzite. Which would you recommend I check out first? Thanks!

Modrinth low framerate
Hello, for past year since I switched to Linux I tried to make Modrinth launcher for Minecraft run in normal framerate. It's very glitchy and I don't understand how to fix it. When I launch Minecraft from this launcher it works fine. I have same problem for AppImage, AUR and Flatpak
I use Arch with KDE Plasma 6(Wayland), Core i5 - 10500h, RTX 3060 Laptop 6Gb Vram and 32Gb of RAM.
P.S. Sorry for my severe grammar issues

How are you all installing Gamescope?
Did you actually build the package from source? I’m on Linux mint 22.1 and the whole process is becoming a huge PITA, I’m slowly falling into dependency hell. I’m comfortable enough with building manually but the dependency list is huge, and I’m not totally comfortable with unofficial PPAs.
