Halo Infinite: Unable to Authenticate with Services - Game Starts Offline
Hi all,
I've been playing Halo Infinite for the last couple months with zero issues. Recently I've noticed that the game starts and seems to hang when trying to authenticate with the back end services. Eventually it lets me in, but I'm in "Offline" mode. I had been running the game with Proton Experimental with zero issues.
Note: I can still play custom games (by myself) without any issues.
Things I've tried:
- Completely removing the prefix. This forces me to login using my MS account again, which appears to partially work (it downloads my controller config, etc.) but just doesn't connect to the Infinite services
- Switching to Proton 9.0-4
- Switching to Proton-GE-27
343 did recently perform some backend service updates that might be causing the issue. Has anyone else run into problems. I checked the Proton Github issue tracker - nobody has posted about it there, etc. I also checked ProtonDB, and the latest entry from a week ago seems to indicate that everything is working fine.
Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated!

Why Kernel Level Anti-Cheats are only found on Windows, and not Linux
As more and more developers point to Anti-Cheat compatibility, as a reason why games aren’t available on Linux,

💻 Best Linux distro for Nvidia RTX GPUs (gaming, productivity, compatibility)?
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for recommendations on the best Linux distro to use with an Nvidia RTX GPU (RTX 4070s).
My main use cases are:
- Gaming (Steam, Proton, Lutris, etc.)
- Productivity (video editing, Blender, AI workloads, etc.)
- Everyday use (browsing, terminal, general stuff)
I know Nvidia can be a bit tricky on Linux, so I’d like a distro that:
- Has solid support for the proprietary Nvidia drivers
- Works well out of the box
- Doesn’t cause too many headaches with Wayland/X11 (tearing, screen flickering, etc.)
I was considering Pop!_OS, Fedora KDE, Nobara, or Manjaro, but I’m open to suggestions based on real-world experience.
What are you using with your RTX cards on Linux? Which distros gave you the least trouble?
Thanks in advance! 🙏

How to pass through environment variables to Skyrim through Mod Organizer 2?
Hi there!
I want to use ReShade (https://github.com/kevinlekiller/reshade-steam-proton), but it requires changing the launch options in Steam to: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b" %command%
My current launch options are:
- Location: "/home/deck/MO2/ModOrganizer.exe"
- Launch Options: "moshortcut://SkyrimAE"
These settings allow me to launch Skyrim SE with mods from Steam's Game Mode without opening the MO2 interface.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate what Valve and Proton have done for Linux as a gaming platform
A lot of times, we take things for granted and focus on what doesn’t work instead of appreciating what does. What has happened with Linux as a gaming platform is truly amazing. As a long-time Linux user, I never would have imagined this in my wildest dreams.
Proton has been a game changer. Thanks to Valve, CodeWeavers, and the incredible community, it's now possible for me—and many others—to play these amazing 2025 releases on day one.
Thank you!

Steam is amazing
We all know how good steam is while buying from stream but it doesn't suppress piracy.
I recently pirated God of War and it didn't support my controller and then I added it to steam with proton compatibility layer and I can play with my controller because steam just translates the output.
I didn't have to tinker even to play pirated windows game properly is awesome.

Which distro is best for gaming on for old hardware
One of my friends has a pc with all of his hardware from 2012. Most games don't run on his pc at all, and those that do run, usually have lots of issues. I figured that it might help to install linux on his pc. I did a little research and found mint and lubuntu to be suitable candidates but am unsure because I have no experience with linux. Which one would you recommend?

Heya,
I installed linux today, I think Mint Cinnamon? I don't know what I'm doing evidently! I can't get Poe2 to run on Steam. I've tried for hours to try and figure it out, but I'm at a loss! Any help on how to proceed?
Cheers.

Logitech F310 right stick is drifting to the right after Fedora 42 upgrade -- anyone with similar issues?
This happened RIGHT after updating to Fedora 42, so I'm guessing it's not a stick drift issue. Has anyone heard anything like this? Any idea where I might begin to look for troubleshooting?

Is FF7 Rebirth fixed on linux? (AMD GPU)
Basically the title, for a long time FF7 rebirth had really bad frame times/stutter whenever you panned the camera around on AMD gpus. I'm not sure if this was the case for NVIDIA gpus as well.
I unfortunately had to play the game on windows because of this issue, but now I'm wondering if this is fixed because checking protonDB i can't find much info about this issue recently.
