Apreciation post for help
Hi all,
Would like to thank you all for the great support. I asked for what distribution i should use and got mind blown with the amount of usefull replies. Although allot of people went in discusion about what distribution to use and told eachother i should use that one. i didn’t want the easiest solution but also not the most advanced one. I want to learn something and not think sudo is short for sudoku type of linux
One that came out quiet well was fedora KDE in the replies no backlash but also no holy grail type of linux.
So this weekend im getting rid of 🪟 and going 🐧
Gonna make an iso this weekend and install it. (Please dont make me regret it 🤣)

Blackfield, Mac and probably on Linux
early 9 months have passed since I last posted about the game I've been working on for almost two years. Countless ups and downs, technical issues, a full-time job, family, and more have stood in my way while pushing this project forward day and night. Well, I'm thrilled to share a significant update on this complex project (which started from a tiny seed). Enjoy watching, and I look forward to your feedback!

Question about the compatibility of GTA 5 on Linux.
This may seem like a dumb question, but I have seen a lot about GTA 5 not being compatible with Linux and I was wondering if:
1: There is any way to run GTA in Linux using Wine or Proton or any other way.
2: And if that's not possible, would it work if I made a Windows VM using for example VirtualBox.

Mi experiencia de TERROR instalando Linux - OpenSuSe Tumbleweed
Why Wayland (Hyprland) sucks?
I've got an AMD Ryzen 7 and an RTX 3060 Ti Lite Hash Rate, but on Hyprland, my FPS is a bit lower than average (along with some DE with Wayland). However, Cinnamon x11/Xorg is working just fine
I'm looking to get my Hyprland set up to work like Cinnamon. Any ideas on how to go about that?

How good is nVidia aupport in 2025 May on Linux? Worth switch to Linux on my RTX 5080 gaming machine?
I play on Windows 11 but the operating system became worse than better in the last few years especially in other aspects. I like to game with single player titles. Can you recommend me to switch to Linux even if I want to play games?

System freezes when OOM
I'm using Arch with hyprland and I noticed that when swap fills up (it doesn't seem to empty it) system becomes unresponsive (I can't even switch to TTY) and the only way to fix it is to hold the shutdown button and manually shutdown the system (REISUB does nothing) (on KDE sometimes after 30 min OOM killer would step in). Is there a fix to this or should i get early oom killer? And if early OOM is the only way will there be some downsides?

Steam black screen after I turned on "GPU accelerated rendering of web views (and restart)"
ve been experiencing heavy lag in Steam Big Picture mode. To reduce GPU load, I disabled all animations and installed the LXQt desktop environment. Despite these changes, the lag persisted.
After looking online, I found a recommendation to enable a specific setting in Steam. I turned it on and restarted Steam, but now I'm getting a completely black screen in Big Picture mode and normal mode. I can still hear the menu sound effects when navigating with my controller, but nothing is
visible on screen.
I'm running Arch Linux with a GTX 3060 Ti. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

Half my steam games don't work anymore
FIXED: added this launch option LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./lib/x86_64/:../lib/x86_64/ %command% -allowconsole
As the title says a good portion of my steam library just isn't working anymore. I've been busy with school so I've really only stuck to like 2-3 games but with more free time I've tried to go through more of my game library the only issue being that a good portion of them just don't work.
The only thing that the games that don't work share in common is that they take forever when it says "launching" and then after a while system monitoring center shows them running for like 30 seconds and then all processes end and the game stops without a window ever opening.
I've tried different proton versions, moving them to another drive, and reinstalling the games completely so I am quite stumped as to what to try doing next. I can provide logs if needed but I would really like some help here.

What's the best distro for a beginner who just wants to leave windows for good? I've tried before when I built my system but my arc a750 didn't play nicely.
not sure if this is the right subreddit but I'll try in a few others. also sorry this will be a bit long winded and not very coherent.
I currently have a pretty okay PC with a ryzen 5 5600 and an arc a750, I'm kind of looking for something that mostly works straight out of the box as I've not had much Linux experience save for installing it on basically everything I own (I don't daily drive it though.) the main distro I put on my laptops and junk is Linux mint xfce or cinnamon depending on what I have lying around, and when I tried Linux mint a year and a half ago when I built this PC it didn't work. like, full stop it just didn't. and I'm just fed up with windows. I was looking at bazzite but I kind of prefer the arch based ones interface that seems to be pretty similar on them all (if that makes sense?) but didn't think either of them would be compatible with my pc.

Games run OOB
I still can't believe it that we're at a point in time where I can just download a fully unpacked game, double click the exe file, and it runs and plays perfectly on linux like it does on windows.
I've been using linux for past 7-8 years on and off, switching to windows and back, but recently I've switched fully to linux and it's honestly amazing to see how much work has been done to support games running straight up OOB without much or any tinkering at all. I remember how much of a hassle it used to be when I was using linux when wine was at 6.0 branch, used to be the old days, took a lot of work and winetricks to setup some games. Nowadays, steam having proton and wine being improved so much just gets everything running without any effort. I'm glad to be a part of this community.
