SteamOS or more traditional distro for a dual boot ROG Ally Xbox X?
I'll be putting in a 4 TB drive and will probably split it 1/3 if I dual boot. I'm guessing Bazzite is better supported but SteamOS might be the one that people are more interested in. What would you pick for Linux on a DIY handheld install?

Number of questions about Linux in general
For reference, I have not used Linux before. I looked in the FAQ, but I have not seen answers to these questions. I would like to know these before I do a possible switch.
- How do you run SteamVR on Linux, or a functional equivalent? I have a HTC Vive and a few VR games on steam, and would like to know how one would get that set up. I read from steam that Linux has some issues due to not having DRM leasing available. Is that something that can be installed or enabled? If it can't be run normally on Linux, is there some alternative that can still run steam games? If not, does it work through a windows VM or is dual booting the only option?
- I have read that Linux doesn't use a windows style of managing drives where each is individually labeled. How do you tell linux what drives to use in that case? I have an SSD and a large HDD, like most people I assume, and would like to only have specific things on that SSD (linux itself, some larger games, etc) with the rest being on the HDD. Is doing that as easy as it is on windows, or does it require effort to do so? I have to assume its easy, as it is a pretty basic feature, but I didn't see it in the FAQ. Assuming that I can, is it also possible to set up drive partitions or RAID?
- In a similar vein to my last question, in the case of dual booting is it possible/easy to have each OS only access certain drives? For example, Linux using drives 1 and 2 while Windows uses 3 and 4. I could imagine that having each OS have access to the other could cause issues. I know with a VM you can control that, but I don't know for dual booting.
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask these questions, but I figured what is the worst that could happen. I do think that it would make a lot of sense for VR to be mentioned in the FAQ of a linux gaming subreddit, I would think that it would be a large enough thing to be worth mentioning. The other questions aren't really pertinent to gaming specifically though, so if it would be better to go ask this in a general linux subreddit I understand. Thank you for your time and have a good day.

Texture inconsistencies using Sober
I'm using sober to play roblox, and there is just a really jarring difference between windows and sober, both of these images were taken on max graphics. I am using sober 1.6.2 under flatpak. Is there any way to fix this?

Issue with discord browser version
I tried joining a vc on the browser version of discord on librewolf but it was stuck in a cycle of trying to connect and saying there was no route. I made sure to give access to my microphone and saw if maybe enabling autoplay would help, but nothing. I made sure everything was enabled with ublock as well so unless it's a linux/librewolf issue my only guess is that it could be my vpn but I don't wanna have to turn that off

Ghost recon breakpoint, PopOS cosmic beta.
Anyone running this combo? Launching from steam, launcher installed and works, logged in. When i start game depending on which proton version it either launches a window that disappears or minimizes to tray as soon as u move mouse>? So strange.
Have tried many diff launch options, with or without gamescope just wont work.
Anyone running this game in a 24.04 distro w/wayland?

L4D2 keeps crashing
Recently upgraded from Fedora 40 to 42 about a week ago. The game ran fine for several days. Now i get a crash with the following info.
hl2_linux killed by SIGABRT _int_memalign
I uninstalled and reinstalled both Steam and L4D2 to no avail. If I had any hair on my head I'd be ripping it out.
Any thoughts? Any other data you'd need me to post to examine?

Any Parsec alternatives that allow for easy remote gaming with friends without setting up a VPN?
I see Moonlight and Sunshine recommended a lot as a replacement for Parsec, but the problem with it is that it requires local connectivity, plus it's hard to manage who has access to what (keyboard, mouse, gamepad) while connected. Is there an app like Parsec that doesn't require my friends on Windows to have to figure out how to set up ZeroTier on their pc and just works plug and play?

Duckstation alternative for Linux
Hello everyone,
Which PlayStation (original) emulator do you recommend, since "Duckstation" has been denied support from Linux ?
Thank you ! 😀

would mean a lot if you could sign this – it’s about kernel anti-cheats and linux/steam deck freedom
Hey guys,
I made a small petition about something that’s been on my mind lately – kernel-level anti-cheats.
You know, that stuff that some games install super deep into your system “for security”? Yeah, that.
It’s getting out of hand.
Not only is it kinda sketchy from a privacy standpoint, but it’s also straight-up blocking Linux and Steam Deck users from playing a ton of games.
Like… imagine buying a game and then realizing you literally can’t run it because of how the anti-cheat works.
I’m not trying to start drama or anything, I just think devs need to find a better way that doesn’t mess with our systems.
So yeah, if you could check this out and maybe drop a signature, it’d honestly mean a lot 🙏
Even a comment or share helps. Thanks, and keep gaming free 🐧❤️

What is happening with game requirements?
I was excited about the Deus Ex Remastered when announced. But now I'm furious when I saw these requirements for the graphics they showed in trailer.
txt Processor: Intel i7 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800 Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDA RTX 2080 / Radeon RX 6750
I've 2070 super so technically it's not even qualified for recommended experience.
Image on the left is from the trailer and image from the right is my college homework that I did in a week for computer graphics class with pure OpenGL (I tried to make CS clone). In those days (15 years back) it was running over 100+ fps on a shitty college laptop iGPU. (I'm no graphics engineer either that was the only course I did back then that was not related to pure maths).
I recently brought TombRaider I-III remastered. They did great job on optimizing it as it runs super smooth on a 12th gen laptop's iGPU while dealing with all the limitations of the old engine.
What are these dev doing? Are they vibe coding?
PS: I know this is not the channel for RANT but I don't have enough karma to post it in r/gaming :(

Is Zorin OS a good choice for my ZBook Fury 17 G7 (RTX 5000 Max-Q, 16GB VRAM)?
How does a REALLY old pc perform in Linux with proton?
I have a laptop that is only 2 years old, but its hardware is really old for the modern days. It runs on 4GB of RAM and an I5-5005U, and I cannot afford new hardware due to some things. With Windows 10 having reached its EoL, I want to switch to Linux in order to have a safe OS while I save in order to buy a new machine, but I dont know if my hardware will handle gaming as efficiently on Linux, because some games that I play lack an effective native support, and im afraid that I will lose a lot of performance using proton due to my pc lacking Vulkan and the extra power consumed by the translation layer.
Yet, I have been wanting to change my OS for a while, so if the losses aren't great, I am totally willing to switch.

Gamesir Nova Lite Not Working
Running Universal Blue's Aurora Linux. Gamepad is a Gamesir Nova Lite.
yeah it just doesn't work. I've checked online for a few guides but none of them have worked (holding start+select until green light, trying xone/xpadneo drivers on my Fedora installation on my Thinkpad, etc.) but it either:
- reads incorrect inputs
- doesn't input at all
Would really rather not have to buy an Xbox Series controller, does anybody have any ideas?
Edit: before I forget, this only happens with Steam games. RPCS3 and PCSX2 have worked fine out of the box.
