How to run native L4D2 on dGPU and manage its mods? Also, why does Enter key not working in this game?

02. März 2026 - 07:45

As the title says, I cannot run native L4D2 on dGPU and managing its mods is impossible. For some reason, disabling the mods on Add-ons doesn't do anything unlike on Windows. I use -vulkan in Launch Options so the game won't crash and adding __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command%__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command% wouldn't start the game and even if I remove -vulkan, it doesn't work at all. Playing the Proton version would solve this but it doesn't let me join online lobbies.

Also, why does Enter key not working in this game? It is recognized when binding it but it doesn't work.

I could just play it on Windows since I'm dual booting anyway but I don't want to restart the laptop if I can.

Laptop specs:
i5 13420H
RTX 4050m
16gb RAM (please don't steal my RAM after this)
512gb ssd solely for Fedora 43 KDE

Nvidia-open driver bugs

02. März 2026 - 07:38

Whenever I play any game that makes my GPU go to 100% utilization, after some amount of time I get NVRM XID errors 13, 109 in journalctl

I have a 50xx nvidia card and I use the most recent version of the nvidia-open drivers, and I’ve tried arch linux and I even tried installing CachyOS just in case they did some patches that would fix this issue, both with wayland.

This causes the entire desktop to freeze up and the only way to get out of it is to spam until I’m able to reach a TTY. I then have to reboot to get back to a usable state.

I’ve already tried a large selection of environment variable configurations, such as forcing dx11, using game scope, downgrading the nvidia drivers, etc. I even locked the GPU clocks to a constant value and while that seemed to save the GPU from freezing the entire system and get rid of the XID errors in journalctl, the game itself still froze. Is there anyone that’s actually gotten a 50 series card to function smoothly on linux?

Rome 2 Total War Stopped working

02. März 2026 - 06:53

Hi I'm using Bazzite OS btw and basically Rome 2 stopped working after a few days of working flawlessly. I attached the error that pops up after I press play in steam before the launcher shows up. Ive tried different proton versions, I tried wipping the proton versions using protontricks and have steam rebuild it. Nothing works so far and I'm new to Linux so Im not sure how to fix this.

I miss being able to play Mirror's Edge Catalyst

02. März 2026 - 05:43

Since the GPU was upgraded from 3070 to 9070XT in Dec 2025, it has remained unplayable. Previously it would launch, show the EA logo animation, and then crash, recently I've started getting this BS blocker popup (clicking OK closes the game).

Steam Placeholder or Video Error Image/Video?

02. März 2026 - 04:05

Hello, I'm not sure if this is considered tech support but I'll try to keep it detailed. Mainly just having trouble figuring out what to google to troubleshoot this myself lol.

I've been playing on Linux for a few months now and everything mostly been pretty smooth. However I've noticed this "placeholder/error" video appearing in places where a video or gif would usually play. Has anyone else encountered this? Is this a steam/proton setting that I can look into? I've seen it come up with Skate Story and Brush Burial. Regarding Skate Story, setting the launch options as "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" gets rid of it, but causes other performance issues in it's stead.

I'm using Arch and Hyprland (wayland) using Nvidia drivers (lib32-nvidia-580xx-utils 580.126.18-1). Let me know if I should provide more details about my setup.

Looking to join the ranks

02. März 2026 - 03:20

Alright I'm picky with my computers, so bear with me 😅

Looking for a distro that is fast, KDE, and not super ugly out of the box, it needs to be Debian based because I have software that doesn't have a fedora build, and I'm an idiot, and I don't really care to drop more than 10 minutes troubleshooting (often at least - I don't want the operating system to get in the way of normal use)

Side question, does signalrgb work in virtualization like win boat or wine? Ik OpenRGB exists, but it doesn't have support for my keyboard.

Wake with 4.2ghz controller

02. März 2026 - 03:20

Hey everyone. First my specs.

Hardware: GMKtec k11

AMD Ryzen 8945HS chip.

AMD Radeon 780M GPU

32GB DDR5

Gamesir Super Nova 4.2ghz controller

Controller port: bus 001, port 004, dev 012

Software:

KDE Plasma: 6.5.5

KED Frameworks: 6.22.0

Qt version: 6.10.1

Kernel: 6.17.7-ba25.fc43.x86_64

I am having a lot of trouble getting this to work. I've gone through every tutorial and video I can find. I've entered every script I can find. I am stuck. The PC has no problem waking up with my mouse and keyboard. I have switched the dongles around to every USB port. Nothing changes. The controller is recognized by bazzite and steam.

This is last thing to do to complete the console experience I was going for. Any help is appreciated.

Any way to achieve a "Game-Stasis" functionality like the Steam Deck?

02. März 2026 - 03:14

Hi everyone! I got into Linux gaming three months ago by switching to Nobara.

Overall an incredible experience, much better that Win 11.

I don't own a Deck, however, a friend showed me his setup where he would be working on his PC, grab his deck, unlock it and continued his game right where he left it. Then he could just lock it and continue working. I really want to achieve this and I don't believe there's any real limitation in a standard PC.

The only limitation, I believe, is the software involved.

First, to understand exactly what I would find as "similar", it would need to achieve two things:

  1. The game process should stop and be able to resume. This could mean keeping it in memory or dumping to storage. Either works for me. It should, of course, pull the game process from CPU and GPU so they are not executing game logic/graphics in the background and stop my fans from making noise or PC from heating the room.
  2. Steam should recognize that pause as not playing anymore. Just like the Deck, you should go from "Playing X" to just connected from this sleep and back to playing when the game un-freezes. This way the game status and hours played keep accurate while not doing some hack like setting your status as Offline.

AFAIK, 1 is easier to achieve than 2, which sounds crazy to me.

I know there's low level functionality like just... SIGSTOP and SIGCONT which would probably achieve 1. But steam would still count it as "playing".

Also, I am looking for a finished and polished tool that I can quickly get running. My core objective is to be able to take a break from work/life and go back to my game in short 20-30 min bursts without wasting the time on launching it and navigating the menus to get to the game.

Notice I am not demanding for it to exist, I am asking the community if there is an existing tool.

If not, I am asking other, more experienced engineers to point me in the necessary direction to start developing a solution (I am a SE myself).

My specs:

OS: Nobara Linux 43 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition)

KERNEL: 6.18.2-200.nobara.fc43.x86_64

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (radeonsi, navi22, LLVM 21.1.7, DRM 3.64, 6.18.2-200.nobara.fc43.x86_64)

GPU DRIVER: 4.6 Mesa 25.3.2

RAM: 32 GB

"Unable to retrieve clip information (32)" I'm getting this error whenever I try to export game clips using the built in game recorder on Steam.

02. März 2026 - 02:10

I'm running Linux Mint, and the game record feature on Steam has been unusable since I moved over to Linux. I've found fixes for windows and a lot of those seem to be an issue with missing or corrupted timeline files, but the timeline files seem to be intact when I looked. I can view the background footage on Steam, but as soon as I try to export the file I get the error "Unable to retrieve clip information (32)" Is this feature just broken on Linux, and if so is it possible to export the background recording directly with third party software? I'd appreciate the help and if there's anything else I need to provide I'll happily do so.

Le Mans Ultimate and Zorin OS perfect combo

02. März 2026 - 01:57

I’ve been using Linux daily for many years, since the early 2000s. Even so, there was always one thing that kept me tied to Windows: games. On my notebook, I’ve been using Linux exclusively for quite some time, but on my main PC I still needed a dual-boot setup — Linux for daily use and Windows only for gaming.

After seeing many reports from people saying that Le Mans Ultimate works on Linux, even with the anti-cheat enabled, I knew I had to test it myself. And of course, actually play it.

First, let me talk about my setup: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor, AMD RX 6600 XT graphics card, 48 GB of DDR4 memory at 3200 MHz, Fanatec V2.5 wheel base, and Fanatec V3 pedals connected via USB.

The first step was choosing a Linux distribution. I went with Zorin OS, downloaded it, and installed it normally. Next, I installed Steam and started downloading the game. While the game was downloading, I began installing the drivers for the wheel — with just a few commands, everything was already working perfectly.

The next step was downloading a Proton version compatible with the game. After downloading it, I simply extracted it into Steam’s directory, waited for the game to finish downloading, and restarted Steam.

With everything ready, the next step was selecting the Proton version to use with Le Mans Ultimate. Just two clicks and everything was set.

When launching the game, the experience was excellent: the wheel was recognized instantly, with no issues at all. I joined a practice server to test it on track, and everything worked very well.

After that, I adjusted the graphics settings and tested a full race. The game’s stability leaves absolutely nothing to be desired compared to Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Still not satisfied, I decided to go even further and take part in a 12-hour Le Mans event — and once again, everything worked perfectly.

To my pleasant surprise, the experience on Linux was outstanding. The frame time is noticeably smoother, performance is consistent, and the anti-cheat — which is often a major obstacle on Linux — was not an issue at all.

Today, only iRacing still keeps me tied to Windows. Even so, I’ve already managed to drastically reduce my time on that system. And for anyone who believes Linux isn’t suitable for gaming, that statement couldn’t be more wrong.

Has anyone got black ops 2 working on Linux?

02. März 2026 - 01:19

I've been trying to get one of my favourite games of all time "call of duty black ops II: Zombies" on linux but it's been literal hell, i've followed multiple guides and tried just running the game through plutonium ( a third party launcher ) under proton hotfix and nothing works but if i look up youtube tutorials and look on protonDB everyone just says " just use this proton version and run through plutonium" (which doesn't work)

I'm on FedoraKDE 43 if that helps at all

[Debian 13] Resident Evil Requiem freezing after splash screens

02. März 2026 - 00:59

Read title. I've tried looking on ProtonDB and it seems everyone else can run the game with flying colors. Freezes after the RE engine splash screen with no input registering, and I have to force close the game. I've already tried most of what I've seen on ProtonDB but I might have missed something.

I have a 4060 ti and an i7 13700k if that helps

What OS do you game on?

02. März 2026 - 00:31

I have been gaming on ChimeraOS for 6 months. I have tried every single variation of gaming distros. This is the best one for me. I love the console experience, no keyboard or mouse necessary.

I plan on giving my Chimeraos setup, complete with tons of games, roms, and music to a family member. Hopefully this becomes the future for gaming. Valve has done wonders for the gaming community.

What do you guys use? Do you dual boot windows or are you fully locked in with Linux?
