Indiana Jones TGC black screen at menu
Cannot get this game to run no matter what I try, always ends up at black screen after the logos occasionally with some sound but never anything on screen.
Kinda feel as though I've exhausted all the fixes I could fine, but would welcome any suggestions.
Running PopOS with XFX 7900 GRE and R7 7800X3D
Troubleshooting:
- Proton Hotfix, Experimental, GE-21, 9.0.4
- Launch options: radv_legacy_sparse_binding=true radv_zero_vram=true RADV_DEBUG=nodcc %command% +com_skipIntroVideo 1
- Deleting TheGreatCircleConfig.local file
- Editing lower pool size in TheGreatCircle.local
- Deleting the streamline folder
- Running in safe mode
- Reinstalling the game, verifying file integrity

Planning to go back to linux (bazzite or nobara). Have some gaming related question before I do it this weekend.
Been away from linux for 9 years. When my daughter was born, time for certain hobbies had to go. Now as a pre-teen she wants nothing to do with us parents :( But this means it is the perfect time to jump back into linux. Below are the questions I have as someone out of the loop and jumping back in.
- VRR (nvidia 3090)
- KDE over gnome?
- Seems wayland is the way to go over X, correct?
- Any news on multimonitor support with VRR? I have two VRR monitors and want to use the second monitor for youtube/etc while I game on the other with VRR.
- high polling rate razer mouse
- For openrazer, will I need to install kernel-devel each time there is a new kernel update for openrazer to work?
- Headsets
- Does the tutrle beach stealth 700 gen 2 max work using the wireless dongle?
- Does the logitech g733 work using the wireless dongle?
- Are there any EQ applications that can adjust either of these headsets?
I appreciate any guidance on these.

Crazy screen tearing when playing Celeste on Hyprland
I had to reinstall my system for various reasons, i set it up the exact same way but this time Celeste (the game i play the most has crazy screen tearing. I could try to reinstall my OS all over again but I really don't want to do that again. My guess is that it's a nvidia and wayland issue because i have an nvidia rtx 4060 and the nvidia-dkms drivers. Celeste runs in an XWayland window btw

RX 6800 voltage controls
I use LACT to tweak my GPU and while the voltage slider works fine with stock core clock, it seems very inconsistent when there’s OC applied and at times feels like it doesn’t even do anything. I first noticed it when I loaded a game and got 20C hotspot delta, even though it previously was at 10C in the same scene with the same settings. I use kernel 6.13. My settings are definitely properly applied with every boot, I have the LACT daemon running and the clocks always match.
Does anyone else have this issue and is it 6800-specific or Linux-driver-specific?

Key release not detected
I'm trying to play a niche AFPS game, Diabotical, using WINE. The game runs fine in terms of graphics and performance, but it's unplayable due to input issues. First, there's a noticeable delay between pressing a key and the game responding. Secondly, key release events don't register properly - when I press a keyboard or mouse button and then release it, the game still "thinks" the button is being held down.
Not sure if this is relevant, but from what I understand, the game uses raw input rather than DirectInput.
Is this a known issue with a known fix? I've tried googling, but I can't find any helpful results.

Indiana Jones "Laser eyes" fix on Linux Mint ?
Hello I am using Mint 22 with an AMD CPU/GPU combo and while the game works and is smooth I have this issue with the eerie glowing "laser eyes" bug on characters, ProtonDB suggests I should install AMDVLK which I know is not always the best , Should I install AMDVLK is there an easy way to do this on Mint without using an unverified PPA ?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Corsair Void Pro Wireless Surround
Hey,
I made my switch from Win 11 to NixOS. I wanted to ask, if someone knows, how I can enable Dolby Atmos (7.1 Surround) on my headphones?
On Windows, I needed to install Corsair iCue to activate it but it seems there is no iCue for Linux. Looked up and did not find anything.
Thanks.

DualSense Controller Bluetooth Stability
Hey there,
I just bought myself a dualsense playstation controller for my gaming machine. I connected it via bluetooth and use it for playing and navigating steam.
When connected initially all works well, except after some time lag occurs in controller input.
But when I shut down or after reboot, the controller is recognized as connected in system settings, but does not take any input for mouse and steam does not see the controller at all. I have no idea how to properly troubleshoot this, I would be happy for some input and guidance.
My operating system is manjaro on the latest update.
Merry Christmas!

Ryzen CPU gaming temps hotter on Linux vs. Windows
R7 7700X, X670E PG Lightning, running Fedora 41 KDE.
I created a new Fedora partition a couple days ago, and taught myself to run/configure basic apps such as Steam, GPU Screen Recorder, Goverlay, CoolerControl, etc. Everything’s working as expected, however, I’ve noticed that my CPU temps are much higher when gaming on Linux compared to Windows 11.
On W11, I avg. around 60-65C while gaming. But on Fedora, it’s always somewhere in the 70s, roughly 75-77C, with ~20% CPU usage. I have a sturdy cooler (Phantom Spirit 120 EVO) w/ a similar fan curve applied on both operating systems + 65W Eco Mode enabled within the BIOS.
Unsure what to look into next (changing power plans, or undervolting?), but pointers are very much appreciated.

Does anybody have AMD Ax xxxx CPU-s with IGPU? If you have one, how's is your gaming experience in linux?
Can you play older games like: Splinter cell pandora tomorrow, Max Payne 1, etc
I have AMD A4 4000 CPU, and i wonder if i can use this processor for retro gaming.

How can I make a PS5 controller show up as a PS4 controller?
So I'm hopping to buy an older game that supports both PS4 and Xbox 1 controller on Steam, but I have a PS5 controller and I really do not like it when the button prompts are for xbox so I'd like to avoid that if at all possible, and IIRC steam input can only emulate an xbox 360 controller.
I don't truly know if the game won't detect my PS5 controller, but it does predate the PS5 launch by a few years so I can only assume it won't. And I'd really like a way to emulate a PS4 controller with a PS5 controller anyway for other games, I used DS4Windows on windows for this, what would the equivilent linux utility be?

Awful Discord microphone quality - sounds good in every other program - legacy audio subsystem fixes it on Windows, but no such option on Linux
Been trying to switch back over to Linux but this issue is leaving me stumped. My microphone just sounds like complete ass by default on Discord - this has persisted through multiple microphones and multiple hardware configurations. Switching to the audio subsystem legacy completely fixes this issue but as that option does not exist on linux (using Fedora) I really don't know what to do to make it sound right. Any ideas?

Guys I have a issue regarding my controller.
My controller, which is a " Cosmic Bytes Ares Wired Controller " is working in android input mode instead of Xinput. It used to automatically work in Xinput when I used to play games in Windows. Because of android input mode there is no vibration at all working and also it looks fairly odd. I tried things like evtest and stuff. But I don't know how to get it working in Xinput. Please help.
I want it to be in xinput permanently.

Frame Doubling on Debian Testing
Greetings and Merry Christmas all!
With certain steam games I've been having problems with "Frame doubling" for lack of a better term. It's like the game is trying to run at two different fps at the same time. If I pan the camera at all the image rapidly oscillates between the "where it was one frame ago" and "where it should be now" until I stop panning and the images more or less sync back up.
System software specs:
OS: Debian testing
Desktop: KDE Plasma v5.27.11
KDE Framework v5.115.0
Qt v5.15.15
Kernel: 6.11.7-amd64
Windowing System: Wayland
Proton: 9.0, 8.0, 7.0
OpenGL: v4.6
amd mesa: v24.2.8-1
System hardware specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5600X
GPU: AMD RX7700 XT
RAM: 32Gb 2133 MHz DDR4
I've disabled Variable Refresh Rate and messed around with v-sync and any in game "frame helper" settings but I'm convinced this is a problem with my system. It only does this when running games as far as I can tell. I've been daily driving linux for about half a year now but really not sure where I should be focusing my troubleshooting.
The core offenders are Metal Gear Solid V and FrostPunk 2. I was able to work around it by capping my last monitor at 45 fps which seemed to stop the problems. But this new monitor doesn't have that option so now I actually have to fix the root issue (womp womp). Interestingly Lies of P works flawlessly at 120 fps down to any frame rate I set it to. Also when I tried to get a recording of the problem the video didn't show the issue and instead just showed what the video output should look like.
Any help will be very very appreciated!!

Ultimate Guide to setting up Asusctl and Supergfxctl for KDE Neon (Ubuntu-based Systems)
I began this journey when I wanted to turn off my fans when not plugged into power. I will begin with my specs/setup: - https://i.imgur.com/VN2bmNP.png (Didn't know reddit didn't allow embedded pics) - I am also dual booting Windows but it is irrelevant to this guide
Uses of asusctl and supergfxctl- Asusctl offers control over fan speed, RGB backlights and many other Asus specific features
- Supergfxctl offers control over GPU Switching
I needed both of this as I wanted to save battery and switch to "Eco" mode when I'm not plugged in
The ProblemThe first issue I ran into while researching both was that it was created and officially supported for Arch and Fedora. It was unofficially supported for Debian but it was literally unsupported for Ubuntu and Ubuntu based systems.
I was about to give up when I came across this reddit post in which someone had posted steps of setting this up in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and so I began doing a bit more digging on how to do it for Ubuntu based systems.
The next big issue was that we had to compile the entire thing, it was not a pre-compiled binary. I am not sure if this is how it is usually in Linux but this was definitely my first rodeo.
Step by Step Instructions for KDE Neon (Ubuntu based): Prerequisites:- Ensure you have Linux Kernel version 6.1.x or above. You can check by running: bash uname -r Mine was 6.8.0-51-generic by default
- Install essential dependencies for building from source: bash sudo apt install -y build-essential git cmake pkg-config libpci-dev libsysfs-dev libudev-dev libboost-dev libgtk-3-dev libglib2.0-dev libseat-dev This step took me such a long time as many dependencies were missing from the guides I followed, these should cover everything.
bash sudo apt update && upgrade -y Ensure you have the latest drivers and updates.
2. Install NVIDIA Drivers:bash sudo apt install nvidia-driver-560 nvidia-settings The latest recommended driver for me was nvidia-driver-560. You can check the recommended driver for your system by running: bash ubuntu-drivers devices It will show you the driver tagged as recommended. After installation, reboot your system.
3. Verify DriversEnsure both NVIDIA and AMD drivers are running correctly: bash lspci -k | grep -EA3 "VGA|3D" You should see two entries—one for "NVIDIA" and another for "Advanced Micro Devices".
4. Install libseat and set PKG_CONFIG_PATHI had this weird problem and this is the fix I got (Thanks ChatGPT) bash find /usr -name libseat.pc Set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH to ensure pkg-config can find libseat. Make sure to replace the path with whatever you found in the previous command!
In my case it was /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkconfig. bash export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH
5. Clone and Build supergfxctlCreate a directory in your /home folder for organizing the setup. I named it Asus. bash mkdir ~/Asus cd ~/Asus git clone https://gitlab.com/asus-linux/supergfxctl.git cd supergfxctl Now, build the project: bash make sudo make install
6. Enable and Start supergfxctlbash sudo systemctl enable supergfxd sudo systemctl start supergfxd Verify the status by running: bash systemctl status supergfxd
The service should show as active (running).
7. Create supergfxctl systemd Service FileTo ensure supergfxctl starts at boot and runs as a systemd service, you need to create a custom supergfxctl.service file.
- Create the service file: bash sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/supergfxctl.service
- Add the following content to the file: ```ini [Unit] Description=SuperGFXCtl Daemon After=graphical.target
[Service] ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/supergfxctl Restart=always User=root Group=root WorkingDirectory=/home/dev
[Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target - Reload systemd, enable, and start the service: bash sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl enable supergfxctl sudo systemctl start supergfxctl - Verify that the service is running: bash systemctl status supergfxctl ```
8. Clone and Build asusctlNext, clone and build asusctl: bash cd ~/Asus git clone https://gitlab.com/asus-linux/asusctl.git cd asusctl make sudo make install
9. Configure Udev Rules for supergfxctl and asusctlFor supergfxctl and asusctl to work correctly, they need access to your GPU hardware. Setting up udev rules grants the necessary permissions for these tools to function properly. - Find your hardware's vendor and device IDs by running: bash lspci -nn Look for the vendor and device IDs in the format [vendor_id:device_id]. For example:
NVIDIA: 0x10de:0x1e00 AMD: 0x1002:0x1636 ASUS: 0x1043:0x2007 - Create the udev rules file bash sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/99-supergfxctl.rules - Add the following udev rules (Replace ATTRS{vector} with your vendor_id) ```bash
For ASUS devicesSUBSYSTEM=="pci", ATTRS{vendor}=="0x1043", ATTRS{device}=="0x2007", MODE="0666"
For AMD devices (replace with your device ID)SUBSYSTEM=="pci", ATTRS{vendor}=="0x1002", ATTRS{device}=="0x1636", MODE="0666"
For NVIDIA devices (replace with your device ID)SUBSYSTEM=="pci", ATTRS{vendor}=="0x10de", ATTRS{device}=="0x1e00", MODE="0666" - Reload the udev rules bash sudo udevadm control --reload-rules - Verify the rules are applied correctly by running this command: bash ls -l /dev | grep gfx ```
10. Configure asusctl & supergfxctlTo use asusctl for controlling fan speeds, RGB, and other settings, simply follow the instructions provided in the official asusctl GitLab repo. You can use commands like: bash asusctl fan -s 3 # Set fan speed to level 3 asusctl rgb -c 4 # Set RGB color to a specific value ![]() To use supergfxctl for changing the GPU modes, you can check out their official GitLab repo. You can use commands like: bash supergfxctl --mode Hybrid supergfxctl --mode AsusMuxDgpu
Conclusion- This was a wild experience for me personally (in a good way). I really hope this helps someone and save them an hour or two (and a lot of frustration).
- I'm not at all a Linux power user so I know there were a lot of mistakes and things that I should've or shouldn't have done but this is what worked for me and hey, can't complain ig.
- If this could be improved or something changed, please let me know!
