A note for some apps on Wayland or how fix Tabletop Simulator's file picker issue on Wayland

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Jan 2026 - 3:46pm

When running Tabletop Simulator with the Linux runtime on Wayland the game freezes when trying to open the file dialogue.

This is an annoying issue and when scanning the web a solution is hard to find. However, after one hour of research I found a way to solve this without switching to Proton and since X11 is dead now on several distros, falling back to X11 is not an option anymore.

Modern problems need modern solutions, however, and the trick is to force the app falling back to XWayland instead.

This can be done with Setting the WAYLAND_DISPLAY variable to empty. Just put

env WAYLAND_DISPLAY= %command%

(note the space between = and %command% ) into launch options and suddenly it works. Hopefully someone finds this useful! I leave it here because else I forget it again lol

Multiplayer on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Jan 2026 - 3:32pm

Hi fellow Linuxes,

it’s been a while I checked and I think Reddit should know the current news then anybody else. Is there something in the making for Anticheat software on Linux?

Only thing holding me back is Battlefield and some other multiplayer FPS games to switch to Linux because, you know it doesn’t work out of the box, others do like StarCitizen or other MMOs.

Do you know that someone is working on that kind of a problem or ist the way still to not buy and play these games?

How can I switch to Linux if I'm a gamer?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Jan 2026 - 3:19pm

Guys, I'm a Windows user and I want to switch to Linux, but I have a weak laptop and that's why every FPS in games is important to me, and on Linux my gaming performance drops. I installed Ubuntu, Fedora, even tried Steam OS, and everywhere the FPS was lower than on Windows. I play Dota and all kinds of story-driven games like Days Gone, but for some reason I feel like I'm doing something wrong, because I have no experience with Linux. Tell me, can I switch to some Linux distribution where I will feel comfortable and be able to do whatever I want? Does anyone have experience with low-end PCs/laptops? Tell me how you feel about Linux. Did your FPS drop or, on the contrary, did it increase?

By the way, I have

i3-1005G1 2 cores 4 threads

Nvidia GeForce MX330 2GB VRAM

8 RAM

New build stuck between 5070 Ti and 9070XT. 1440p.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Jan 2026 - 2:44pm

Hey guys! I plan to use Bazzite for gaming and was currently wondering what the thoughts are of the community? Prices are in Canadian.

The 9070 XT is currently $929.99. And the 4070Ti is $1089.99.

I might turn on ray-tracing for some stuff, but honestly I just want to play my games natively at Ultra/High with great frames. I don't care about path tracing, I'm impartial to Ray Tracing.

I'm thinking the $150 extra isn't worth it and to stick with the 9070 XT for less of a headache.

Edges of Models Pixelate in games while moving.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 Jan 2026 - 1:16pm

This feels like AMD Boost Feature suddenly got enabled globally in all my Steam games (also Faugus), I can't even show it in a screenshot.

I don't remember what happened of if something updated, every game model's edge becomes pixelated when moving, and is back to normal when it's static.
