Does any one have any experience with GECK?

04. April 2024 - 19:04

WineHQ says that the new vegas geck works really well however whenever I tried it alot of the text fields dont display text which is really annoying when trying to write text for NPCs. I was just curious if any one knew any wine settings or anything that could help with that

Various Issues trying to run Apex Legends (upscaling, stuttering, crashes)

04. April 2024 - 18:50

Hi all! I'm having a few issues with trying to run Apex. I'm testing Linux on another SSD to see if it can resolve my stuttering problems that I'm having with Windows/see if it's time to switch, and it's been great so far...when it works. To give some background I'm not entirely new to linux, and have a pretty basic understanding, but I am very new to Linux gaming aside from having a Steam Deck.

The game runs fine when I'm in 1440p fullscreen. The only problem is that my GPU can't push a consistent 144fps on 1440p. When going to 1080p fullscreen, it works absolutely flawlessly, and feels even better than Windows! Sadly though, any time I alt-tab, and go back into the game, i get a black screen and it crashes (This does not happen on 1440p). In an attempt to resolve this, I tried switching to Borderless, but the image does not upscale/stretch. I have tried gamescope solutions to remedy this, but currently, whenever I run the game with gamescope commands, I get massive framerate issues. I would not describe it as "stutter" (although there is some), but every couple of seconds it looks like it tries to display previous frames, kind of like a rollback, if anyone is familiar with fighting game netcode. As soon as I take gamescope out of my launch commands, it runs fine, just not fullscreen. In another attempt to find a solution, I had planned to set up a shortcut that turns off compositor, while also changing the resolution of my monitor to 1080p/144hz with xrandr so that could be my native resolution while I game. This unfortunately cannot be used as a solution, as it is unable to set my monitor to 1080p/144hz and will only go to 75hz max.

Currently on PikaOS (Have tried EndeavourOS, and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed). I have had the same issues with some variance across each distro, but I do not believe that plays a part in the issues I'm having, nor am I hopping between distros in search of a solution.
The rest of my specs/software:

DE: KDE Plasma 5

Display Server: X11 Kernel: 6.8.1 Proton Version: proton-cachyos (preferred for Nvidia Reflex capability), Proton Experimental, GE-Proton9.2 CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X GPU: EVGA RTX 3060 XC 12GB RAM: 16GB G.Skill TridentZ Neo

Thank you in advance, I appreciate any input (and sorry for the wall of text). I can try to get system info/logs when I can but I'm currently at work, so I may be a bit delayed with those responses.

Appreciation post for Sonic Robo Blast 2

04. April 2024 - 18:41

If you guys haven’t tried this out yet, please do. I genuinely believe this is one of the finest native games on the platform. The devs seem to have put a ton of effort into this and you can see it.

Starting research for an eventual switch to Linux, would like some leads on distros & software that would suit me.

04. April 2024 - 17:48

I plan on building a new PC in the next year or so, since my current one is pretty long in the tooth. and would like to take that opportunity to ditch Windows as well. It's not going to happen for a while yet but I want to start my research early so I have a clear picture of what I'm getting into and what adjustments I might have to make. Here's what all I'm looking for in my PC:

  • Gaming-wise I mostly play older games & Indies/AAs. Stuff like Morrowind, CRPGs, strategy games, etc. The big exceptions are Total War Wahammer 3, and Armored Core 6. Running them on higher settings is the main reason I want to upgrade. Beyond that I would certainly like the option of playing AAA games, in case something cool comes out later, but I don't often get games on release so I don't have a problem having to wait for stuff like patches/fixes.

  • I do like modding my games. From my admittedly very brief look at the subject mods may be the biggest hurdle, so any resources on modding games on Linux would be appreciated.

  • Outside gaming I also use my PC for streaming TV/movies. Mostly through 3rd party sites and YouTube clients like Freetube (which I know has Ubuntu compatible versions. I don't anticipate many issues with these but if problems exist then finding out beforehand is what this post is for.

  • I use a living room setup with a television rather than a traditional desk. I have a wireless KB+M and the Bluetooth Keyboard app on my phone (for when I want to watch stuff while on my recliner). Can I expect these to work out of the box, or will they need setup? If Bluetooth Keyboard doesn't work are there other good apps for using my phone as a mini KB+M?

What is your solution for screen-sharing

04. April 2024 - 17:40

Hi, I use screen sharing a lot on Discord, but man, it sucks on Linux. No sound, and the quality is bad. What alternatives or solutions do you guys know of? Twitch and such has too much delay.

What's the best way to install Epic Games (launcher) on Linux?

04. April 2024 - 15:39

I'm using Garuda (Arch based) and for Epic most guides I find are for installing it through Lutris. Some people say that certain launchers can be installed through Steam, so I tried that first. Battle.net works for me fine this way!

It installed, but I don't seem to be able to launch Epic now (through Steam). So perhaps for this particular launcher it's not possible or through Lutris is the better way in this case. Or maybe even another way is preferred...

edit: formatting and spelling Please let me know, thanks in advance! :)

Recommend a New OS Distro for Me

04. April 2024 - 15:22

I'm thinking of switching from Manjaro to another Linux distro. I've got an all AMD Desktop PC. I use it mostly to play games and browse the web, with a little programming on the side. My monitor is a standard IPS with no HDR. Ram use is not an issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Finals + Proton Experimental (Proton 9 Beta)

04. April 2024 - 14:31

Here is a video that I have been testing for about 2 weeks already without any crashes. The video includes 2 changes (one for the sysctl.conf file, one for the video settings in game) and 3 play sessions to show no crashes (Although the hiccups are still there).

How Linux behaves on Legion 7 G7 full AMD?

04. April 2024 - 12:53

Hi, dunno if this sub is correct but i thought some of you could have this amazing machine with Fedora so i decided to write this post here. I'm interested in buying the Lenovo LEGION 7 G7 with Ryzen 9-6900HX and Radeon RX 6850M XT and i'm looking for feedbacks on how Fedora39 runs on this beast from someone who extensively use it on Linux!

I've seen some posts and seems everything is fine but they are a bit old and maybe something could have raise in between. I mostly care about fingerprint compatibility, profiles supports, audio quality, wifi, camera and graphic driver.

This would be my first premium AMD laptop so i was wondering, how does Linux supports AND graphic drivers? Are they official from AMD and open-source? Are they shipped in the most common distros? What performance they have ? Please, drop me whatever advise you feel about this topic ! Many thanks !
