Kernel update and GE proton - Black Screen and System unresponsive - Marvel Rivals
I have AMD rx 9060 xt gpu 16 gb, 32 gb ram, b550 motherboard, 5600x cpu.
Installed linux mint, steam, marvel rivals. game was not launching.
My GPU was not being recognized so updated the kernel to 6.15 (latest)
now the game launched but with black screen -> proton db users said use GE 10 (latest i think 8). got it and used it. used flags as suggest and also without. game made my system freeze and did not launch except black cutout in the middle of screen.
would appreciate the help here as this is my first linux game test and wanted to transition out of windows if things were working smoothly. currently dual boot setup.

CachyOS - Steam/Proton Playing modded games?
My 5yo win10pc is about dead on Win10 and not eligible for Win11.
I'm seeing that ProtonDb is saying I can play all the fallout and baldurs gate games, but wondering if that includes mod support and how different that would be.
For Fallout4 it required replacing a few dlls and then you had to manage the load order, sometimes making patches so that mods don't overwrite each other.
I'm interested in playing fallout vr, fallout4 both with mods. Fallout London is basically a huge mod on Fallout 4.

Solution to get AC: Black Flag working on Steam ("Unable to find Ubisoft Game Launcher" error)
These steps might (not) work on Steam Deck, might (not) work for AC2 and other titles, or might vary depending on your distro. Of all the solutions google coughed up, nothing worked for me, so I had to hack this together from experience. Hope this saves somebody the frustration.
For anyone struggling to run this on Linux- without Lutris/Protontricks:
(on receiving the "Ubisoft Launcher not installed" error, perform these steps)
- Download the latest Ubisoft Connect Installer executable from their website.
- In Steam, top left menu, Games -> Add a non-steam game to my library...
- Click "Browse..." and navigate to the folder containing the downloaded .exe. (If your browser's downloads are set to default, /home/username/Downloads/ )
- Select the UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe and click ok.
- Right click the newly added non-steam game from your library, named "UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe" by default, and select "Properties"
- In left pane, "Compatibility", select the checkbox and select your version of Proton and close out of the dialog.
- Launch the "UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe" game from Steam by hitting Play and go through the entire install process with the defaults. At the last step, do not launch UbisoftConnect yet. Uncheck and close it.
- Locate the newly installed UbisoftConnect.exe. You can use a file search (i use Catfish on Mint) to locate the most recently modified UbisoftConnect.exe . By default, my path was: /home/username/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/2729711752/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/
note: the folder "2729711752" might vary, but it should by another equally long number in that directory. - Make sure the UbisoftConnect.exe is present, and copy the path.
- Now right click on Black Flag in your library and select Properties.
- Paste the copied path into the launch options and then match it to this exact syntax (without the quotation marks) :
" PROTON_REMOTE_DEBUG_CMD="/home/username/.steam/root/steamapps/compatdata/2729711752/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/UbisoftConnect.exe" uplay://launch/*gameID*/0 "
Then close the Properties dialog.
11a. The above command makes the Ubisoft launcher open in the same "container / instance" as Black Flag so that it is detected by the game. - Right click on Black Flag in your library, Manage -> CD keys. Click on it to copy it to clipboard.
- Click "Play" on Black Flag, and wait for the Ubisoft launcher to pop-up. If your launch options worked, you should no longer get the error here.
- If prompted to login to Ubisoft, do so. You should be prompted to enter your Black Flag CD key. Paste it from Clipboard.
- Ubisoft Launcher will add it to your Ubisoft library and finally launch your game.
16(optional). Remove the "UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe" non-steam game from your library.

I need help with Resident Evil 2 GOG Version on Linux
This is really distracting and I've tried everything that came to mind.
I installed Classic Rebirth, but that doesn't even launch on linux (If someone knows a way please tell me)
I changed resolution, turned off and on v-sync, raised anti-aliasing and disabled it, ran it on windowed mode and full screen. But no matter what these lines are always there!
I don't know what to do anymore does someone have a solution for this?

Helldivers 2 runs pretty poor on Arch linux.
Not sure if its my hardware or if I'm missing some packages, back on windows I have a somewhat stable 50-ish fps but Helldivers just struggles to go above 30 fps and runs pretty poor on linux. I have dual amd cpu and graphics card and have installed vulkan-radeon with --use-d3d11 in steam startup options with proton experimental. Can anyone else share their setup or provide any tips? Sharing system specs below too:

A successful Linux install, a brewski, and a walk down memory lane. How y'all doing tonight?
I know it's not a game.
I have the games I play working. What I'm missing in Linux is the functions for correcting the design of 3D parts. There comes a message telling me to use Windows.
I use the orca slicer. The other slicers don't complain about anything.

Can’t get battlefront 2 (2017) to start on Linux mint
Recently bought battlefront 2 on steam and tried to play it, but the ea app either doesn’t start or doesn’t load properly.
When I use proton 7, the ea app loads up without any ui elements, just a blue box.
When I use other proton versions, steam is able to launch the game, but the game doesn’t start.
I have tried to download the ea app with lutris, but that doesn’t seem to work either as I can’t start the game through the app.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it still doesn’t work.
Has anyone run into similar problems with this game?
Any help would be appreciated.

Looking to make the switch!
Tech literate, but would rather not have to configure every little thing as IT is my major. My main use case is gaming but I'm not looking for a "gaming only" distro like Bazzite as this is my main PC. I've used Mint on my laptop for a while and enjoyed it, but have seen conflicting opinions on everything to the point that I have no idea what is good or not. Any reccomendations or general advice is greatly appreciated. :D

I can't play games because Steam won't let me not use proton.
My GPU (HD4850) doesnt support Vulkan but it does support OpenGL. American Truck Simulator has a OpenGL Version, but I can't seem to select it because it keeps opening through proton. I had the option for OpenGL on windows, but on linux it doesn't let me use OpenGl by the looks of it. I also cant sort by games with native linux support because its making all games show up as "games that can run on linux". Do they just assume my card can use proton?

Diablo 4 random crashes / black screens
Hello,
I got the expansion pack for Diablo 4 on steam this summer sale and have been playing the season for a bit.
Sometimes, I cannot exactly pin point it, the game either completely freezes or goes into a black screen (which is sometimes recoverable). I did play D4 before the addon and it was completely fine - same setup (hardware), but of course different kernel, or drivers..
I am using X11, on the latest 6.16 linux kernel, with a nvidia 3080 using the latest drivers, on an arch based OS (EndeavourOS).
Anyone else has this issue and know what could fix it?
I read on the internet that its something to do with latest DLSS, but I have been trying it without, and with, and even with FSR2 - changing that option didnt seem to change anything.
Thanks!

Suggestions for Steam Sale games that run natively on Linux and are high in replay value?
Looking for inexpensive gems that are in the summer sale and are high in reply value. Anything released in the last 15 years is fine because I don't keep up with games so I probably missed it. Needs to run natively on Linux via the Steam app.
I'm not really a fan of "management" sims or games like that. Games with lots of story or RPG elements are fine though I'm looking more for platform/action/racing/etc type games than full-blown RPG.
