Steam on Linux and controller problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. April 2024 - 17:54

I recently started PC gaming and since I am used to using linux for work I thought I would download steam directly to my ubuntu installation. Everything works fine, with ge-proton I can I have yet to find a title that won't launch, performance is great, etc etc. The only problem is, now that I bought the Ori collection I can't play it with the dualsense controller on my ps5. The controller is recognized by the pc, steam sees it and in the test for key binding every key is detected correctly. I have tried it with other titles and it seems fine.

The only game it doesn't work on is Ori and the blind forest.

If I disable steam input the keys are all wrong, if I enable it the controller is not directly recognized.

Has anyone had any similar experience, maybe even for other games? In this case Ori does not have a menu to remap the controls, otherwise I would have tried that

I'm posting here because I wouldn't know where else to look, the few other threads I found were not helpful.

Thanks in advance

heartbeat pattern hitching across whole system

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. April 2024 - 17:24

just switched to mint from windows 10, have 3070ti and Core i5-11400F 2.60GHz, dual 1440p monitors.

when installing mint from usb to nvme both monitor displays would cut out to black every 3 seconds for about 1 second, I powered through this thinking the graphics driver would resolve the issue.

now mint is setup and running from nvme this kept happening until I installed the recommended nvidia drivers through driver manager, to which it then stopped

I fully updated the system, setup steam, installed elden ring, setup compatibility. the game is hitching for 1 second every 3 seconds, I have a video playing in firefox on the second monitor and notice the video is hitching for a second and the exact same time the game is.

I look into it more, update the kernal to the absolute latest, setup gamemode, issue is almost completely gone, but just subtly still there.

I close the game and go watch a different video and notice its still happening, every 3 seconds the video hitches for 1 second then continues.

All drives were formatted, everything is from scratch, tried the newest nvida drivers also instead of recommended but no difference, this issue is not present on windows 10, no idea what to try now

How do I get rid of "remote desktop" popup?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. April 2024 - 15:53

This pop up makes steam menu on steam big mode not open when I press the PS- button on my DualSense, which is beyond annoying as I'd like to use it to look at the clock when I'm playing away from PC on the bed.

I tried to get rid of it by both uninstalling gnome-remote-desktop and gnome-connections (as I don't need remote desktop functionality at all) but as you can see it didn't work.

I'm on gnome 46 and fedora 40, steam is the flatpak version

Why some companies didn't create native app on Steam Deck?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. April 2024 - 15:17

Why not create native client/store compatible with Steam Deck, Always thought they hate with valve cut (30/25/20%)?
