Need help with sober

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Jun 2025 - 4:51pm

Hello, so basically I recently installed ubuntu and I wanted to try out sober. Thing is, after opening it, it just sits on the bar and when it's highlighted, it's an invisible box that just bugs out the screen. There is normally supposed to be an UI but nope. I think it is a graphics issue but I'm unsure. I have a Nvidia Gefore 3050Ti.

First time using Linux and steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Jun 2025 - 4:46pm

Holy crap its so First time using Linux and Steam together, and honestly, I’m pretty impressed. I was expecting a lot of headaches, but setting things up was smoother than I thought. Games launched without much trouble, and Proton does a great job handling Windows titles. A few hiccups here and there, but nothing major. It feels lightweight, fast, and way more stable than I expected. Still learning the ropes, but for a first-timer, this experience has been surprisingly solid. Im amazed.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Jun 2025 - 4:21pm

so for context im trying to play Assetto Corsa using heroic games launcher (because the game is a sus exe) (another side note:this is not related to it being cracked).anyway it needed dotnet48 so i tried installing it using the integrated winetricks.i tried multiple times but it just ends up installing dotnet4.0 not 4.8.

Wanted to port to native Linux, and there are soooo many distributions! What to choose?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Jun 2025 - 3:05pm

The project is Win64 DX12 and Steam-only, while Proton works okay, the idea was to actually port to native Linux with Vk... but no idea what Linux to port to (Edit: got recommended Steam Linux Runtime or sticking with Proton+Vulkan)

And does Linux have its own version of XAudio2? Specifically spatial reverb effects and something like XAPO is of interest... (Edit: got recommended FAudio)

And what about UDP? Are there any big endian Linux devices to consider and/or devices that don't handle unaligned memcpy well? Any devices with MTU below 1280?

Could just add Vulkan and keep relying on Proton, but...

So confused

What is the consequence of running games on a compatibility layer?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Jun 2025 - 2:36pm

Compared to native support. Do compatibility layers add extra latency? Worse performance?

Skyrim SE completely freezes every so often

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Jun 2025 - 12:59pm

I'm on archlinux, trying to play Skyrim, which i have on steam. The game runs perfectly, until it just freezes (which might happen after 30 minutes of playing or 30 seconds, it really is random) and I have to stop it and restart in steam. I also use Mod Organizer 2, which I installed with mo2-linux-installer or something, but I haven't installed any mods yet (except for SSE Engine Fixes and Address Library) and anyways, I've always had this problem, way long before installing MO2. I had the very same problem with Ultrakill and simply using gamescope fixed everything, but it didn't with Skyrim, in fact, I feel like with gamescope Skyrim freezes even faster than without it. Installing SSE Engine Fixes didn't appear to help, but perhaps I messed up the installation, I will double check if the mod is active or something later. At the moment, I am using Proton 9.0, because this is the recommended version for MO2, but I have tried practically every version of Proton before and none could fix the problem. I really tried everything, please, I need any help. I've already done post on this issue, but haven't got any proper help.

My specifications:

GPU: nvidia GTX 1050 4gb (and I use proprietary drivers)

CPU: Intel Core i3 8300H

RAM: 16 gb

Archlinux

i3wm
