Hey everyone. Our psychological horror game inspired Disco Elysium and Slay the Princess has Linux support!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Oct 2025 - 4:46pm

Hello everyone!

A quick follow-up to my previous post; thank you so much to everyone who tested our Linux build and confirmed that it runs well! Your feedback really helped us prepare the final release.

Our psychological horror visual novel Livber: Smoke and Mirrors will officially launch in less than two weeks, during Steam Scream Fest at the end of October ^^

We’re a small team of five friends, and seeing your support for our first project means a lot to us. The demo is still free on Steam if you haven’t tried it yet, and we’d love to hear any last feedback before launch.

Once again, thank you for helping us make sure everything runs smoothly on Linux and for being part of our journey <3

Help, what am I doing wrong?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Oct 2025 - 1:59pm

Apologies if this is the wrong flare, and if this is the wrong sub.

I've recently switched to Linux Mint Cinnamon, mostly because Microsoft is cutting support for Windows 10 and I've been wanting to try another OS for some time and needed an excuse.

Currently, one of my favourite games is Spore, and I cannot get it to work. On Steam, the game is launching, then running, and stops. No loading screen or anything. I've tried literally every piece of advice on Proton DB: I've tried various Proton versions, changed my Launch options to 'gamemoderun %command%', and pasted that piece of code into Spore's system.reg (Yes, I changed YOUR_USERNAME with my username.)

I'm at a complete loss, this isn't very serious, but Spore is currently my favourite game and it just really sucks to not be able to play it, plus I like playing some slightly older games mostly because I just find them better and my computer most likely cannot handle most of the newer games. If needed: CPU — AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (integrated graphics) GPU — Radeon Vega Graphics ×4 (From CPU)

I'm not sure if this is simply a problem with my specs, or Linux Mint is being problematic and I might need to switch to something else. It also might be good to mention that I don't know a lot of computer things, mostly just the basics so try to explain advice like I'm 5 please.

Thank you!

My main issues with linux gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Oct 2025 - 1:45pm

Operating System: Fedora Linux 42

KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.18.0

Qt Version: 6.9.2

Kernel Version: 6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)

Graphics Platform: Wayland

Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics

Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)

Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060

Manufacturer: LENOVO

Product Name: 82GN

System Version: Lenovo Legion 5 17ARH05H

My 4 main issues with gaming on linux. First of all when I play more demanding games on linux my cpu overheats (unlike on windows), when it overheats either the game crashes or the whole os, this is apparent in any distro and I've spent months trying to fix it. Second of all, if I turn off cpu boost it doesn't overheat and the crashes stop, but while playing for example cs2, going from 120 fps to 30 fps isn't quite pleasing. Third of all, this issue isn't mainly for gaming, but my daemon power profiles disappeared after messing around with tlp and I spent over 4 hours trying to get them back but nothing worked. And the final and one of the biggest issues is when playing for example cs2, my system only uses like 20%cpu and 30% gpu.

Any help is appreciated

vk_error_device_lost when I try to use tango in DOTA 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Oct 2025 - 1:42pm

Exactly as the title says, when I try to use tango, the game instantly freezes and gives vk_error_device_lost error.

It is repeatable, I reconnected to the game and tried do the same and the game froze again

I am using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Intel iris Xe integrated graphics, so there shouldn't be much driver problem.

I have skipped the "loading shaders" part that you see before the game launches.

I am using linux version of the game

Games crash on nvidia

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Oct 2025 - 11:59am

Hi everyone , need a bit help here. on my PC , I5 14400F , 32gb Ram 5600 , Rtx4060 , 650w 80plus silver psu , games have been crashing rather frequently and not just games, in some cases entire system freezes. sometimes I even have to force shut down, cause even restart button won't respond.

So I thought, gotta be hardware issue, stress tested and benchmarked every single piece of hardware, from cpu, to gpu and vram to ram to psu to ssd to cooling. hardware's ok.

Maybe bios, updated firmware, tried different settings, rebar on and off, xmp on and off, c states and aspm on and off , gpu pci link set to pci 4 , pci 3 , etc. no results.

So maybe it's nvidia drivers, tried versions from 550 to recent 580. did not help.

Different proton versions, from 7 to hotfix to GE. Steam launch options to stabilize proton. no help.

So maybe something distro specific, tried bunch of them, from bazzite to nobara, to debian / ubuntu to arch / cachy. nope, did not help.

at the very end, I did something I didn't wanna do, installed windows for testing purposes cause I gotta know at this point , is this hardware or is it OS.

to my utter disappointment on windows everything's fine , well no not everything, it's windows , but no crashes.

So... sorry fpr the long post, I'm still unsure but gotta be linux-nvidia-proton thing.

therefore I wanted to ask, do any of y'all who have nvidia cards, experience anything this severe ?

I knew I should've bought amd card, but I heard linux nvidia driver was doing better lately. well maybe it's not

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Oct 2025 - 11:58am

i've been playing the game for 3 days now. no update has happened to the game or my machine. Today upon logging in, the game will just randomly close; without any explanation. I am playing through steam. Steam is still running, it does not close steam. I've been running it with protonGE 10-17. I was quite literally jsut playing 5 hours ago... and without even turning off my pc i just went to bed and tried to play a bit before work and it's just closing the game with no explanation. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Linux Fedora

AMD ryzen 5 7600 X3D

30 gigs ddr5

amd Radeon 5600 XT

EDIT: and yes i did try restarting my PC, as well as verifying game files. No missing files where downloaded. I am about to try switching it to a new hard drive and see if that makes a difference.
