Except for some exceptions the best case scenario under Linux is that it is a tiny bit slower than Windows and things overall are a bit more complicated to set up. Some Games that require Kernel Level anti-Cheat are out (is that still the case?). So why did you switch anyway?

How can completely disable any sort of fps limiter in a game ?

I'm on CachyOS 6.17.7-3, Steam Table Client from 03 Oct and Proton Experimental official release.

Hardware is AMD R7 5800X3D with RX 6700XT.

I have set a dxvk.conf with dxgi.syncInterval = 0, dxgi.maxFrameRate = -1, d3d11/d3d9.syncInterval = 0.

Also tried launch options like PROTON_NO_NTSYNC=1, NO_ESYNC, FRAME_RATE and even NO_FSYNC but it tank the fps so I left it default.

Freesync has been disabled in display OSD settings. With all that, the game is still locked at 144fps, which is the display's refresh rate.

Have i missed something ?

I also tried to search internet but it only return how to limit fps.

The game in question is MMO Black Desert online and having higher fps give you a clear edge on others.

It's been like this for a while now, the game updated and it looked like this, I tried to run it on Proton since cs2 is native to Linux, but without success. I tried to wait to see if Valve fixed it and well, it's been months since I played it, they haven't fixed it, I spoke to Steam support and they basically said they don't know and that I should ask the community for help. Can anyone help me?? My distro is Ubuntu

Yes, I'm fully aware that it's a potato rig, but I've run GTA V Legacy on this machine in Windows with no issues in the past.

More gamers start to use Linux these days, and they miss the central philosophy of FOSS or DIY. User-friendly distros are great for beginners, but they shouldn't hinder learning linux progress.

I wanted to create a new easy-to-follow gaming guide, yet accessible to step into linux foundations.

While surveying online wikis, the best resouce I came across was FMHY's Linux Gaming List. Some links are outdated, and some projects like Envy Control may deserve more attention.

So I am playing on heroic launcher to play epic games games, not so long ago I tried playing a game and it had like 2 FPS, every game does this and I don't know how to fix it. I tried changing wine version, changing my drivers but nothing works. Can someone provide me help please ?

I know you can play Rust without the anti-cheat. However is it really worth it? Especially in EU? Since I have witnessed people cheating on anti-cheat enabled servers I'm guessing that servers without them are either non existant or just a breeding ground for cheaters. Does anyone have any experience with EAC disabled servers on Rust? Especially in the EU?

Specs: 13700k and 3080

Id rather not use win11 but I’ve heard gaming on linux isn’t usually as good on nvidia gpu compared to amd. Is that still the case? I mostly play single player games. Usually smaller closer to indie then AAA type games.

My main experience with Linux is via steamdeck so I’ve used protondb a bit before but I think it’s mostly for steam deck?

What district do you recommend? I was considering either ubuntu or mint as I’ve heard that’s the most user friendly ones?

short disclaimer: I'm not often on reddit and already switched back to windows, but still wanted an answer for this.

I installed Total Warhammer 3 through Steam a few months ago and it installed the dedicated Linux version. Unfortunately this version was about 2 major versions behind the Windows version and renders multiplayer with friends impossible. How would I have been able to force Steam to download the most recent/Windows version of the game? Does Steam even support this feature?

Hello everyone. I have an old laptop with a nvidia geforce 610m

I installed cachy Os (btw i use arch!) and it is blazing fast and responsive. I wanted to use it for light gaming with gpu offload (i am a little proficient with linux and arch) and i found out that the right drivers are nvidia-390xx. But they are not supported in the latest kernel (6.17.5).
I read that the nvidia-390xx-utils contains a patch for the latest kernel but it is not working, when i compile the dkms module for my kernel it stops because the function fb_create has changed the signature in the newer kernels. Has anyone come to a solution or workaround to this?

Tried Proton 9.0-4 and current Steam Experimental. Same result: freezing during logos, at slightly different points, doesn't go further than that. Verified files -- didn't help. There was some kind of weird message on first start via Steam UI, but it dissapeared in half a second. Red frame, seemed quite lenghty. Never seen anything like it before, and it didn't appear after the first launch.

I hadn't played CS2 in a while, and the other day when I launched it my monitor was no longer displaying correctly.

For years I'd been playing at 3440x1440, 165hz, no problems whatsoever. And now I'm forced into 16:9 or 4:3, seemingly no support for my ultra-wide monitor, and a popup warning that my display is running at 0hz. If I suck it up and play at an incorrect resolution close to 3440x1440, everything is very annoyingly flickering.

I'm on Arch with an NVIDIA gpu and Wayland/KDE Plasma. No problems for the longest time until these past couple weeks. Is anyone else experiencing any problems with CS2 lately?

I'm using LACT, and the 7900 GRE is supposed to have had its memory unlocked via a driver update eons ago. However, LACT still shows it as having an upper bound of 2316 MHz (it should max out at 3000). I am on Mint 22.2 Cinnamon. Here are the rest of my specs: https://termbin.com/88c6
