Arctis Sound Manager: version 1.7.2 released

The Arctis Sound Manager has been released in version 1.7.2.

The tool manages audio settings of SteelSeries Arctis headsets on Linux, such as microphone EQ, filter chains and the GameDAC display. After version 1.7.1 and its reworked Spatial Audio, the new release brings bug fixes only.

These include outdated udev rules (missing hidraw entries), crackling on the Nova 5 caused by too frequent status polling, the sidetone switch on the Arctis 7 and Arctis 1 Wireless, and unplug detection for devices without udev IDs.

Fixed

  • Outdated udev rules on Linux (Arctis 7 and other headsets) (#342): Rules written before 1.7.0 lacked hidraw entries, so ASM kept falling back to libusb on every connect. Those rules now count as outdated, and the setup dialog offers to rewrite them. ASM also goes straight to libusb and explains why.
  • Nova 5 crackling (#348): The 2-second status poll could cause audible crackles in the headset. ASM now reads the dongle’s own power, charging and battery reports and polls only every 5 minutes. Profiles can override this with status.poll_interval_s. Thanks to Fabi0699 for the measurements and fix.
  • Arctis 7 / Arctis 1 Wireless sidetone (#337): “Off” previously meant enabled at level 0. ASM now sends the enabled byte that GG sends, based on a Windows GG capture from franklin654.
  • Unplug detection without udev IDs (#362): ASM ignored disconnect events lacking udev vendor/product properties. It now falls back to the IDs the kernel includes in every USB event, following elegos/Linux-Arctis-Manager.
