itch: game client released in version v26.22.0

The desktop client itch has been released in version v26.22.0.

itch is the official app of the indie marketplace itch.io, used to buy, download, install and update games.

New are collection management directly in the app and improved Steam shortcuts: Windows games can now be added as shortcuts on Linux and the Steam Deck and run through Proton Experimental.

Collections

Users can now manage itch.io collections directly from the app.

  • Right-click game covers to select “Add or edit collections…”
  • Use the collections button adjacent to the install button on game pages
  • Add games to multiple collections simultaneously
  • Create new collections from the dialog

Collection management allows editing titles, privacy settings, deletion, and bulk reordering of items. The in-app browser supports “Add to collection” buttons regardless of login status.

Steam Shortcuts

  • Resolved dialog failures for multi-account Steam setups
  • Account selection now available and remembered for multiple Steam accounts
  • Clearer messaging when no Steam accounts exist
  • Windows-only games can now be added as direct shortcuts on Linux/Steam Deck, running through Proton Experimental
  • New itch://steam-shortcuts URL option with optional ?game_id= parameter

Butler 15.32.0

Enhanced launch target detection, improved handling of non-executable uploads, platform-specific update checks, support for single executable Linux/macOS files, stale lock fixes, and archive security hardening.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Electron updated to 44.5.1 (Chromium 152.0.7977.130)
  • Added itch --shutdown command
  • Fixed search field character loss during query processing

Bugs Fixed

Search fields in library, collections, and dashboard no longer drop typed characters while processing previous searches.
