Valve has announced changes to the “Discounts & Events” section on Steam, planned for early 2027.

The current manual, calendar-based approach with fixed slots for Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals and Daily Deals is set to be replaced by a dynamic, personalized system - the goal is to make far more discounted games and sale events visible, instead of limiting them to a small, fixed number of slots.

Currently, the Discounts & Events section on Steam is made up of curated placements that are either scheduled directly by partners via Steamworks, or by us here on the Steam team.

By moving away from that approach, more discounted games or sale events will have the chance to be visible on the homepage and elsewhere on Steam, rather than be limited by a small, fixed number of slots.

How We Got Here:

Our goal with Steam’s discovery features is to show the right game to the right customer, so we spent the last few months experimenting with replacing some curated spots with dynamic and personalized recommendations. By featuring games in a more personalized way in the Discounts & Events section, we were able to show 10x more games to customers in a given day in that section. As a result, we saw meaningful increases in store page visits, wishlists, and cart additions.

We don’t have a definite date for implementing these changes and are still tuning the details, but we wanted to set expectations.

What This Means For Developers:

We expect that sometime early next year we will fully cease using a curated calendar for the Discounts & Events Section. In the meantime, we have paused scheduling curated placements in that section (Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals). If you already have a Weekend Deal, Midweek Deal, or Daily Deal scheduled, its placement will be honored and you don’t need to take any action.

As part of these changes, we will have new and updated tools to help developers better manage their discounts and sale events on Steam.
