Loadout: overlay for Linux gaming handhelds v0.9.0 released

Loadout has been released in version v0.9.0.

Loadout is an overlay and plugin toolkit for Linux handhelds such as the Steam Deck, letting you control TDP, fan curves, artwork and alternative store integrations directly from Gaming Mode.

New in this version: the storage configuration now lives in the home directory and survives system updates and slot switches, so “Mount on boot” drives repair themselves. The OneXPlayer plugin now runs on every OneXPlayer model instead of just the Apex and adds a global vibration strength control for the built-in gamepad. On top of that there is loadout-doctor, a read-only diagnostic dump that needs no sudo, plus several safety fixes around /etc/fstab and partitions on non-SteamOS systems.

Added:

  • Drives set to “Mount on boot” now repair themselves after a system update (#277) - Storage configuration is now persisted in the home directory rather than /etc, surviving both updates and slot switches.
  • The OneXPlayer plugin now runs on every OneXPlayer, not just the Apex (#271) - Each hardware feature now detects its own capabilities independently rather than relying on a single model check.
  • Vibration strength for the OneXPlayer’s built-in gamepad (#274) - A global rumble intensity control persisted across restarts.
  • The fingerprint wake block repairs itself after a system update (#274) - Wake-block configuration is stored in the home directory.
  • The fingerprint block is staged automatically on Bazzite too (#276) - rpm-ostree images are now automatically detected and configured.
  • loadout-doctor, a read-only support dump (#270, #272) - A diagnostic command collecting distribution info, installed tools, system journals, device identity and known failure-mode signatures without requiring sudo or making system changes.

Changed:

  • The OneXPlayer HID blacklist is now removal-only (#268) - The option to add the blacklist is removed; existing blacklists can be removed to restore rumble and button remapping.

Fixed:

  • Loadout will not touch a partition that isn’t yours to give it (#278) - Partitions are now judged by mount location rather than label.
  • An /etc/fstab entry you wrote yourself is never rewritten or removed (#278)
  • A drive whose name contains a space no longer breaks the boot (#278) - Mount paths are now properly escaped in fstab entries.
  • /etc/fstab can no longer be damaged by an interrupted write (#278) - File replacement now occurs atomically.
  • Fan control remembers the mode you picked (#265, #267)
  • Badges, theme CSS and the overlay work on non-English Steam clients (#259, #262) - Window identification now uses locale-invariant markers instead of translated titles.
  • The overlay picks Steam’s real Big Picture window (#263, #264)
  • Uninstalling removes everything it says it removed (#261, #262)
  • The installer checks every library the overlay needs, on every install
  • D-pad focus is visible on segmented controls again (#274)
