I remember a Tux game where you could put a bunch of dressed up Tux penguins in an in-game background and there was no limit to how many of them you could put there the game was 2D, I can't find it on Google, starting to think it's a Mandela effect, I...
Hello there. I need help in choosing a controller for playing games on my linux PC, please
I have a desktop computer (i7 10700, gtx1660TI, 16gb DDR4 3200MHz, 1TB NVME, 512GB NVME and a 1TB HDD) with Fedora 42 installed and I wanted to buy a known compatible controller to use. I'm planning on buying an xbox360 original controller but before I must ask: is it natively compatible or extra configurations are needed in order to get it working? Also, I have an original PS2 controller laying around and I was wondering if maybe I could use it with a USB adapter... is it possible to do that? if yes, is there a specific model of PS2 controller to USB adapter that I should use or I can use whatever PS2 controller to USB adapter I can find?

Might need a controller recommendation
I've been using a USB ZD games for windows controller since 2018. It worked on windows, Xbox360 , ps3, and now Linux. It's served me well for a cheap controller, but now its starting to slowly die. Some buttons are starting to become unresponsive during quick presses. which is a problem for some games that have different actions or menus tied to quick or long presses of buttons. And the triggers are starting to become unresponsive as well. Also the right stick has gotten loose and drifts a bit. Nothing a dead zone slider can't fix.
Any recommendations? Preferably analog triggers (or both like the steam controller) and USB instead of wireless, can be both as well.

How well do mods work for games on Linux?
I've been very impressed with the gaming performance on my steam deck. My main PC is running Windows, and I was thinking of switching to Linux instead. I love modding games, like I just added a bunch of graphic mods to Baldurs Gate 3, I use a ton of mods for Bethesda games like Skyrim, I use a bunch of mods for Skyrim, etc.
Usually modding is as simple as using Nexus or another mod manager, copying and pasting files to the game folder, or running some executable that injects something into the game.
For people that game on Linux, how is the modding experience?

GPU passthrough possible?
Hey all, ive had my new gaming rig for a month or so but i hate windows. However i need it to play warzone with my friends, so i decided to look into single gpu passthrough. As i only have one RTX 5080
Here are my specs: CPU : AMD Ryzen 9 9950X 4300 AM5 WOF GPU: GiBy16GB D7 RTX 5080 Aero OC SFF MB: GiBy B650E A ELITE X AX ICE
Id like to run arch / fedora / mint or ubuntu and have the windows VM use the 5080 whenever i want to play warzone while my Linux could hopefully rely on the integrated graphics of the CPU? Im not too good with hardware so im really hoping someone can give me the route to go here that fits best. (Any guides would be appreciated too)
I realise im being difficult, but i dont want to dualboot honestly
Thanks in advance!

Star Wars Battlefront II doesn't work
Hello,
I'm new to Linux and currently trying to run Star Wars Battlefront II (Epic Games version) on Pop!_OS using Lutris. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work — it just keeps looping through the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 and 2015.
The EA App and Epic Games Launcher both install and run normally, but launching the game itself doesn’t work.
I’ve been desperate to get it running. Switching to Linux has been a rough experience so far, and I was hoping this game would work, especially since it has a Gold rating on ProtonDB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Steam games not opening/working and other strange things
Hi. I've recently switched to linux and watched a few tutorials for gaming on linux. However, things aren't going as smooth as I thought. The only games that are running without problems are the ones that support linux directly (like CS). Even though I activated steam play with Proton Experimental, they don't open or work strangely, like Batman : Arkham City, with shows this when launching the game and then crashes. Also, I only got The Binding of Isaac to run by setting the proton version manually for the game, even though it's the same as the global one. Can anyone give me some tips? I think i missed something from the tutorials.

cpu throttling
Hi, i'm trying to run rocket league(heroic games launcher) on cachy os on an old laptop(lenovo ideapad 330 15ikb) the cpu clock is normal but when i start the game it wont get higher than the base frequency(1.6ghz) and strangely when i switch tabs it goes back to normal(arround 3.0ghz) thermals are arround 80c when the game is open and prochot is set to 100c so its not thermal throttle i tried using throttled but it doesnt detect anything.
Thanks for helping !
just ran a blender benchmark and realized that whenever my cpu usage gets higher the clock speed slows down and the clock speed gets at 400Mhz when cpu usage is 100% i have no clue of what's causing that(Its not thermal throttle thermals are arround 60c)

Battle.net Launcher on Linux Mint with Bottles or Lutris
Hello,
I am trying to get Battle.net Launcher working on Linux Mint (cinnamon as far as I can remember).
I tried it with Lutris and then with Bottles.
Both received the same error in the Battle net Launcher Windows when starting and logging into it.
"Battle.net agent went to sleep"
I am pretty new to Linux Gaming (2-3 days into it :)) and already tried googling the issue but did not get any helpful results. Only forum threads without any answers at all.
Is this a common issue? I am trying to connect to the European Server by the way. It does not list any Games at all in the Launcher Window, just the error.
Thanks a lot!
PS: Any recommendations for the Epic Games Store (for Fortnite and some single player games) and also Rockstar Games Launcher (for GTA 5 and also RDR2)? How does it work without any Anti Cheat support on Linux? I heard there is no Anti Cheat on Linux. But Blizzard would let it slide with the Battle net Launcher installed on Linux for example for playing World of Warcraft on it.
Edit: My Steam Application is working fine on Linux Mint by the way.
Edit 2: I just found out there is a "dependencies" tab in Bottles. And the list is HUGE. Also I would need to install them one by one by clicking the download arrow button on every single one of them. Are dependencies the issue here? Is there a way install all of them faster?

Where does Steam save gamescope configurations and whatever tells it what proton version each game is using?
I realize I probably worded that stupidly, but essentially my problem is:
Bazzite keeps losing my steam account sign-in going from Desktop mode to Game mode on my ROG Ally X, so when I sign back in I have to go through and set the proton layer and beta settings (and TDP and refresh rate) over again which in turn also has me have to redownload the Windows versions of every game that has a native linux version.
Since the settings stick until the glitch with Bazzite occurs again, I figure there's got to be a configuration file somewhere I can just backup so that the next time it happens I can just copy that file over again. Temporary workaround was just to backup every affected game.
It's happened twice in one day now and is driving me crazy. Thank you in advance!

Drive detection issues or a software problem?
I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon(22.1 Xia base: Ubuntu 24.04 noble), and as shown in the image, my drive is connected and mounted, yet every time I open Steam and Heroic Launcher after a reboot, everything on my games drive isn't registered. Moreover, the library path has been completely removed from Steam in the settings, and Heroic lists all games on it as unavailable.
The drive is set to mount at boot and as shown above it is active, but having to link the library every time I log on is really becoming a pain. Is there a way to stop it doing this?

Audio issue with Spider-Man miles morales
I am running it on fedora 42 and for some reason the audio is super crackly and unrecognisable. I am on a 9070XT and have tried various different proton version but to no avail

Setting Game-Specific Hotkeys on Logitech Hardware
Since the Logitech software does not seem to be available on Linux, what is the best way to setup game-specific mouse hotkeys on a Logitech mouse?
I have used Solaar for RGB control, but if it has any support for application-specific hotkeys, I haven't been able to find documentation on how to set it up.
Using Arch, by the way. :)

Opinions: What's the best price / performance AMD GPU forlinux gaming?
Hi all, I've got a Ryzen 5500 with 16GB RAM, a 512GB NVME Gen3 SSD, and a GTX 1660.
I'm running Zorin OS with Steam, Heroic Launcher, and some combination of Wine/Bottles/Proton GE.
It works OK for a spare parts build, but I want to pick up a used (or new?) AMD GPU to try to get it cooking. So I've really got two questions:
What is the minimum GPU I should pick up to pair with that GPU in Linux,
And what is the best price to performance on new / used AMD GPUs (in Linux?)
If it's going to be a toy I don't want to overspend, if it's going to be my main PC / OS it's worth spending some money, I'm trying to figure out what my floor and ceiling look like, and I'm not familiar with AMD or Linux.
Thanks!

Drag Clicking Not working on linux mint
Hey :3,
I’m having trouble getting drag clicking to work properly on Linux Mint (Cinnamon desktop) and Minecraft in general with my Glorious O2 wired mouse. The clicks are detected by the system, but CPS is stuck around 3, and it works completely fine on Windows.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
-Set mouse polling rate to 1000Hz
-Lowered double-click timeout Cinnamon settings
-Tested with evtest and see correct event presses/releases for clicks at high speed
-Tried different USB ports
-Checked usbhid mousepoll parameter
My Linux kernel version is 6.8.0-63-generic
Despite all this, CPS never goes above ~3-4, and drag clicking doesn’t register well and I don't know how to fix it.
Any advice would be appreciated :3
