ETS2 problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 11:35

So I'm trying to play ETS2 on my Mac pro. The MacOS port is a bit shoddy (broken textures on the newer DAF Lorries is the main one) and I also happen to have fedora 39 on the machine also. What happens is on a clean install of the game, I can only see the top left side of the game window. I tried using proton to run the windows version but that also doesn't work. I've seen this before on other machines with different GPUs so I'm starting to wonder if it's a bug with the game.

Machine specs:

MacPro5,1

Xeon x5675 6x3.06Ghz

32gb DDR3 1066Mhz

Asus RX470 4GB

Booted off a Sata SSD, game installed on HDD

Fedora 39, kernel 6.8, Mesa 23.3.6

ETS2 and ATS are the only games with this problem. Any help is appreciated. The other machines had Nvidia GPUs.

I gave up.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 08:53

I'm using Linux as daily drive for 1 year and since I started I've been trying to play Multi Theft Auto. It just feels impossible at this point. I have GTA SA on Rockstar Games Launcher.

When I installed the launcher via Lutris (from pacman) the game just doesn't start.

When I installed it via Flatpak Lutris, the game runs but my mouse working only on menu, not in game. I didn't care and tried to install MTA and it asks me for a "setup.exe" file I don't know what it is (not the MTA installer exe).

When I tried with Flatpak Bottles, the exe file of the launcher is not starting.

When I tried with AUR Bottles, exe is starting but it gives error.

Not only MTA, but also GTA SA is not playable. I don't know if it's because of Rockstar Games Launcher, Wine, whatever. I gave up (not from Linux, from the trying to make a game work).

Full Modding Guide for Bethesda RPG's?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 07:47

I've been gaming on Linux now for nearly two years. I've got a main Linux desktop and now a Steam Deck handheld. I've found I can do ALMOST everything I can on windows with gaming, and some of my favourite games even have better performance.

However modding, specifically with a script extender exe, has presented a big of a problem. All the guides I've found work great UNTIL I need SKSE or FOSE. If anyone knows a full guide that includes how to run a script extender I'd be very greatful for completing my Linux gaming experience.

TLDR: Need a Linux modding guide that includes running a Script Extender

Helldivers 2 AC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 07:09

I have noticed quite a few people cheating and hacking in helldivers lobbies, and I know that the games devs will look into stopping that cheating with anti cheats. But what are the odds that the ac blocks linux compatibility?

I know it may not happen, but I'm worried because I do like this game.

Need help with CPU governor and CoreCtrl

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 05:12

I installed CoreCtrl and followed the instructions in the docs to set it up to run on startup and stay active. I have set this profile below for 3D Fullscreen. Am I correct in assuming that it will only be triggered when I run a game? Does it also work if the game is set to Windowed Fullscreen or Borderless Fullscreen? Because I have set the fan to not go 0 RPM but it clearly is in 0 RPM as you can see in the screenshot.

CoreCtrl profile for 3D Fullscreen

The problem is that my CPU governor isn't set to Performance even if I select it from CoreCtrl. I have checked using the command in the screenshot below, while idle and also while in games, but it's always On Demand.

CPU governor in CoreCtrl

I have tried using other tools like cpupower-gui or directly write to those files as mentioned in this post, but nothing is changing. I'm not sure what's happening with the CPU governor and why it isn't changing. Now I'm not even sure if CoreCtrl is overclocking my GPU either.

Is Steam a 32-bit application on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 05:10

Arch docs mention you have to enable 32-bit repositories in 'Installation' step https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam, this makes me think its a 32-bit app.

"multilib contains 32-bit software and libraries that can be used to run and build 32-bit applications on 64-bit installs (e.g. wine, steam, etc)."

Is that the same on officially supported Ubuntu? So in theory if we want Steam to work better and have more seamless experience on modern computers, we want it to be built for 64-bit? Does anyone know if we anticipate this anytime in the near future?

Upgraded to Fedora 40 KDE and X11 is finally gone. :/ Since I can no longer use GWE, how do I automate my GPU fans?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24. April 2024 - 03:22

I cannot figure this out. GWE worked so perfectly for me, but apparently they can't get it to work on Wayland. Now that X11 is gone, I can no longer use it. Is there another option?
