How to get to ALVR to work on nvidia + wayland?
I am trying to connect my quest 1 to my pc. SteamVR shows to put the headset on. But when I do ALVR disconnects and quest 1 shows connection timed out. Till now I have tried reinstalling the drivers, installing cuda. And checked if nvenc is supported using "ffmpeg -encoders | grep nvenc ".

Is there a performance difference in running Steam in gamescope session vs kwin/mutter conpositor?
Just wondering, did anyone measure any difference? Are there any benchmarks?
And i mean logging into Steam gamescope session in the login manager vs logging into a DE and running Steam from there using whatever compositor the DE uses.
Is there any performance difference?
Also is running a Steam gamescope session the same as running games with gamescope command argument inside a DE?
Thanks!

Audio crackles (nobara 41)
Hi, I'm new to this, I just installed nobara 41, everything is fine except for one thing and that is that the audio crackles, whether in videos, games or music in general, it happens with headphones and without these so I think it's a problem of the audio card drivers? I need help to check the drivers and update them or if someone had the same problem and solved it it would help me a lot. My computer is an asus rog strix gl553vd Graphics nvidia 1050

Need help with Darksiders Warmastered & a method that was originally used to make the cutscenes work, please.
Long story short, I tried a process listed here to try and get the cutscenes to work after I switched back to SteamOS from Windows 11 on my Deck cause it turns out the Deck isn't a strong device when Windows is its OS, but in the middle of said process my Deck crashed and restarted itself, and now I can no longer make said command process work again. I've tried multiple times but to no avail. I found out that Proton Experimental restores the cutscenes, but they made it sound like they were all fully repaired when instead of that there is audio crackling, out of sync audio, missing music, and some cutscenes were also very slow. I don't remember this being like that when I tried the command process mentioned in the link I provided, and I want to try and make that happen again despite it looking unlikely to do unless I reimage SteamOS, and I don't wanna do that again, man. I don't wanna go through the headaches I was going through with Wine and Bottles and whatever other program that tries to make Windows native stuff work.
Anyone experience the issue I had during the process and have a fix, maybe?

2nd monitor flickers through Display port to HDMI adapter.
Recently upgraded from a 1080ti to a 7900xtx. I have two monitors (one 1080p and the other 4k) that go through two HDMI switches, which plug into a laptop and a PC. Since both the 1080ti and the 7900xtx only had 1 HDMI port, I make the 1080p monitor go through the Display Port adapter. This set up worked fine for the 1080ti, but now with the 7900xtx the monitor that gets plugged in through the adapter flickers and has weird artifacting. I tried removing the HDMI switch and just having the monitor plug into the PC with the adapter to remove one layer of indirection, but there is still flicker.
Is there anything I can do to fix this that doesn't involve buying an expensive dock?

Where to save file if I want it available in normal steam deck directory to as non-steam game?
Where to save file GOG (via bottles) installer game if I want it to be available steam deck to move to game mode?
After hours of trying I final managed to install silent hill 4 via bottles on my steam deck. The issue is I am having trouble on where to save it. Originally I saved it to the Z drive and launched the game no problem but I am unable to find that location in my directory and therefore can’t launch the game again. I am trying to put it on a location on my SD card where I can add to steam as a non-steam game but have no idea where to save it to do so. None of these locations look like places I have when I search in my normal directory and only appear here when I am installing via bottles.
Been at this for hours so would be extremely grateful if someone could help. Thanks

CoreCtrl: Danger? Should all 4 of these sliders actually be set to max?
I'm reading a guide about preventing stuttering by making it so my AMD GPU doesn't attempt to power save in between rendering frames, which is fine for the GPU to do on flatscreen games, but messes VR up.
This part of the guide said I should add amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff to my kernel args so that the application "CoreCtrl" has more options. Then it wants me to change the power profile from 3D Fullscreen to Virtual reality, and then:
Set the GPU and Memory sliders to max
I'm making a new "VR" profile that automatically gets used whenever "vrmonitor" is executed, and I plan on leaving the Global Profile at its defaults. I'm wondering whether it means to raise the minimums to what the current maximums are set to, or if it literally means slide everything to as high as I can, which seems dangerous, because they go way higher than the GPU can do.
GPU and Memory have 2 sliders each. A minimum and maximum slider. 4 sliders in total I'm looking at. These are the current values shown on CoreCtrl. I didn't change any of them yet:
GPU
Minimum: 500 MHz
Maximum: 2965 MHz
Memory
Minimum: 97 MHz
Maximum: 1250 MHz
The GPU sliders go to 5000 MHz max, and the memory sliders go to 1500 MHz max. But I shouldn't touch this stuff until I understand the safety of it all.

After switching to Linux Mint, games have a strange red ghosting/tearing effect when it gets dark.
As the title suggests, whenever a game with a night cycle gets darker, the screen seems to have more red pixelation than usual and when something is animated on screen (such as player movement, npc movement, etc) there is a strong ghosting effect (not sure if I'm using that term right- basically, there is an after-image that fades behind whatever has moved, making gaming extremely nauseating at times).
This problem was happening to my boyfriend a while back but I was able to fix it on his computer by changing his graphics driver's color format to limited RGB. This doesn't seem to work in my case.
My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070

Steam default compatibility tool?
Is there a way to check what compatibility tool (if any) steam is using for games that I haven't checked the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" box?

add mod collection from nexus to vortex
Today, I struggled with installing a Nexus collection through Vortex, but I found a solution and wanted to share it.
I’m using Arch Linux, and Vortex is installed through Proton (I downloaded vortex.exe and added it in Steam as a non-Steam game).
I’ve also included a video tutorial (not mine) for setting up Vortex this way, just in case. However, I recommend deviating from the video in a couple of ways: - Don’t copy the game folder. Instead, create a link to the game folder that needs modding in the pfx/drive_c/ directory of the Vortex installation. You can create subfolders here if needed. - Do the same for the mod and download folders. After Vortex is installed, just set your desired mod and download locations as links inside the Vortex installation folder. (Note: The game, download, and mod folders all need to be on the same drive.) - Here’s the video tutorial for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=7KNSMsPBqlo
To add a collection from Nexus run through the following steps:
- Clear all Nexus site data (cookies, etc.) from your browser. The link to the nxm configuration is exposed in the "Vortex Required" pop up.
- Restart your browser.
- Go to Nexus Mods and log in.
- Navigate to the collection you want, then click "Add Collection."
- When the "Vortex Required" pop-up appears, right-click on "Continue (Vortex Required)" and select "Copy Link."
- Open Vortex, go to the Downloads section (at the bottom where it says "Drop URL(s) or File(s)").
- Click in the area until a link window pops up. Paste the link here.
- Done! Vortex should start doing its thing.

[Fedora 41] Poor performance in Cyberpunk 2077 4k
System:
- 32 GB RAM
- 7900 XTX 24 GB GPU
- 7600X CPU
Bottles settings:
- wine-ge-proton8-26
- dxvk-2.5.2
- vkd3d-proton-2.14
I also had to install and use Gamescope because without it the game wouldn't recognize that I had a 4k monitor. With this setup, I get around 30 fps with ultra settings at 4k without RT and without FSR. Meanwhile, this dude with the same specs as me get around 60-70 fps.
Oh, and I'm using KDE if that matters, with the performance power profile, and my kernel is version 6.12.8.
Thanks!

I Can’t Keep Waiting for SteamOS! - Linux Gaming Update 2025 (Linus Tech Tips) (Video about current state of SteamOS on desktop PCs)
Low framerate with low cpu/gpu usage in Hitman WOA
GPU: GeForce RTX 3060
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700x3d
DLSS Quality
1080p resolution
Proton 9.0-4 (GE Proton 9-22 didn't make a difference)
I tried running it with gamemoderun, but it didn't make any difference. I have enabled ray tracing (wanted to check it out), and this is low settings for shadows++.
If I disabled DLSS, the framerate was more or less the same.
Without the mangohud data, I would think I was cpu limited, but it doesn't look like that's the case.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
