Would a dell precision 3581 make a good gaming laptop?
I have a friend who said they sell me there dell precision 3581 for 250$, it comes with a i7 13800h, along with a NVIDIA 2000 Ada 8GB GPU. It also has 32gbs of ram, and is a 15 inch laptop. I will be installing cachy os, and am just planning on using it as a gaming laptop when i don't want to be at my gaming desktop or if it doesn't run on my steam deck.

Gaming frames issue. Solved but Why is CPU not automatically switching modes?
So i switched to linux mint in Oct 2025. I have a I9 and a RTX 3060
In general I had no issues games were working fine. The issues I had was random frame drops and performance issues (mainly with KCD2, Age of Empires2, Crimson desert, HoI4 etc). I thought maybe my 3060 is not meant to run such games but I was not convinced. While checking my systems yesterday i noticed that my CPU is always running in power save mode (even during gaming).
So when I switched to Performance mode the games became buttery smooth no hicups or lags. FPS went from 29 to 54-60. And I can play these games with Vsyc now.
So i was thinking why is the CPU on restart always on power save mode and not automatically switch to performance mode during heavy load applications?

Limiting FPS with Goverlay causes stuttering
I recently did a clean install of cachyOS with KDE, and I wanted to limit the FPS. I tried the late/early method, but both cause stuttering. Early mode is stranger because the frametime looks fine, but the image shows frame jumps. I wanted to do what you do in Windows to configure FreeSync, but for some reason, I'm still getting stuttering. Is this a Goverlay problem? Is there another limiter similar to RTSS?

Finally on a vanilla arch install, anything else?
I made the switch finally to Arch after being a Cachy is user for the past year, maybe a little more. That was my intro to Linux and I really got to enjoying it. One thing that always stood out was the unnecessary stuff Included. I could remove about anything from the installer but I also didn't really know what I was uninstalling. So I gave Arch a go. Really easy install actually using arch install. I loaded into kde, got the Cachyos kernel and repositories installed. Gaming packages through Cachy that I needed. is there anything else really to do? This was so simple, it seems easier than debloating Cachy. Under 1000 total packages after all said and done with my simple needs. Only what i want. I finally get it.

Reshade + DLSS causes Hitman World of Assassination to lock up
I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has experienced a similar issue or knows of any possible workarounds. I also noticed that Cyberpunk would freeze up at launch whenever I installed reshade so I'm guessing this issue can impact any game which supports DLSS.

Resident Evil Requiem runs extremely poorly
I've been using Fedora 43 for about half a year now, and it has worked really well for me and my use case with no major issues I haven't been able to fix before this.
I got RE9 on release, and so far it has been the only game that I cannot get to work for the life of me, no matter what I do. I've tried multiple Proton versions and went through lots of Proton GE versions. The latest ones do let me launch the game, and I can get in-game, but the performance is absolutely horrendous.
My settings don't seem to matter either. I tried both Path Tracing and Ray Tracing, and both have an issue where the game starts flickering a lot with black colors (seemingly the lights?), and then my FPS tanks to 1–2 FPS until the game freezes.
I played my save further on Windows 11, and I can load that later save on Linux. In the save room, it runs flawlessly and looks really good, but as soon as I move out, the same issue happens and the game locks up after running at that poor performance for a while.
Trying other Proton versions just crashes the game on startup and I cannot even launch it. Proton GE also causes the game to get stuck in a loop of crashing on startup unless I delete my prefix and shader cache every time I launch it.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? Is it the GPU drivers? Should I try upgrading them to 590 or 595? I keep seeing people say the game runs flawlessly and works really well for them, but I cannot even get it to launch half of the time. I just want to play the damn game without booting into windows... Any help would be appreciated.

Need help parsing some proton logs
Made a post a little bit ago about not being able to get Jurassic World Evo 3 to launch, to no success. since then, I was told by someone else how to enable proton logging for a game, and am requesting some help in reading this for the sake of maybe finding what the issue is:

Can't run most of my preferred games using LMDE 7 'Gigi'
I'm currently trying to get GMod, Counter-Strike: Source, and CS2 to run.
As for GMod specifically, I can get it to be playable, but only barely, thanks to the GModPatchTool. But anything that is HTML (like the main menu, addons menu, server browser) is unuseable, because it won't load. Same goes for anything else built using HTML, like loading screens, MOTDs, and some chat addons. I've opened up an issue but I'm not sure if its user error or just a problem with LMDE specifically, so I'm bringing it up here as well.
Counter-Strike: Source wont even start at all, and I'd like to not use Proton so I can actually connect to servers. Same goes for CS2. I've tried a variety of starting parameters but they never seem to work. I know they're supposed to be able to run natively on linux, but that just isn't the case for my system. Generally, I'll click "Play", then it'll sit on "Launching" for a short moment, before going back to "Play." As if I never even tried.
I am using AMD graphics as well, so I feel like in theory there should be absolutely nothing wrong to plague me, yet there is. Could anyone propose a solution?

Cs2 visual issues
is there a fix for this?
only happens when a smoke goes off. if I look directly at a smoke its fine, seems to be an off screen render issue.

Proper way for multiple VKD3D_CONFIG options?
So i want to run force_host_cached and force_static_cbv through proton, but i'm not quite sure on the syntax to get both working at once.
I've seen people in some threads use
VKD3D_CONFIG=force_host_cached,force_static_cbvto use multiple options, however AI searches (that i can't verify the results of) seem to like:
VKD3D_CONFIG="force_host_cached,force_static_cbv"While the second seems more likely to me, is there documentation relating to which is the correct way? or does it matter? I'm struggling to find anything concrete. thanks.

Why is screen tearing completely absent even with VSync OFF in Linux ?
Something I notice since switching from Windows to Linux. In windows I get awful tearing if I don't use Vsync or riva tuner. Since using CachyOS, I noticed I do not have a single visible tearing on my monitor, even with VSync OFF, I just limit FPS to 60 (60 hz monitor).
Why is that ? Not that I'm complaining, just curious. Even when limiting to 60fps in Windows, I get tearing.

Tried to switch to linux, immediately frustrated with controller vibration not working
Tried to switch to cachyOS but neither steam or rocket league notices the PS5 controller rumble function. I have already tried whatever fixes I found on reddit (eg creating a "~/.config/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/51-dualsense-haptics.conf" and declaring it as a 4 speaker audio thing) and while the vibration works totally fine on the linux system itself with fftest and testing the audio outputs, steams controller test does not do anything when i click on rumble and my controller feels completely dead in rocket league. After 2.5 hours of trying to fix this I just decided to boot up windows again and it immediately works. Please tell me what the hell Im missing for PS5 controllers to work. I use the cachyos proton and bundles and everything. Also, when I try to boot rocket league on linux (steam) it has a black window doing nothing for almost a whole minute until the actual game opens! On windows I click start on steam and i immediately get the game booting.
Again, please tell me what Im missing?? Everyone says linux works totally fine for gaming but im just running into countless inconvenient minor issues that i cant manage to debug through google??
