Vulkan shaders causing slow loading?
Hi all, I'm new to linux gaming. I set up nobara for someone a couple weeks back and they were getting the super slow vulkan shader loading issue. The other day they let it fully load (~2 hours) but now their game takes about 10x longer to start up. Should they just clear them out and continue skipping it?

Counter-Strike 2 and Team Fortress 2 refusing to run on CachyOS
Hey everyone! I've been trying to run CS2 and TF2 on CachyOS with all the latest package and drivers but for some reason, it would quit running as soon as I hit the start button. I've redownloaded CS2 as mentioned in other places but that does not work either. Oddly enough, if I launch both games with Proton, it will run but I cannot play on official servers. I'm not sure what to do next so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here is the log for when CS2 attempts to run: https://pastebin.com/fXFjkAjU

Native GTA RP Launcher/Client for Linux
Hello everyone!
I have a project idea and would like to know if the community would be interested and if we could collaborate.
The idea is to create a native Linux application that functions as a GTA RP launcher and client, but without the need for Wine, Proton, or virtual machines (KVM).
What's the goal?
The main goal is to offer a native, fluid, and optimized GTA RP experience for Linux users, who wouldn't have to deal with the compatibility complexities of a Windows application. This would fill a significant gap in the Linux RPG community.
How would it work?
The application would be built from scratch, using native Linux frameworks (such as Qt or GTK), and would have the following functionalities:
Manage the GTA V game (using the already installed version of Steam/Proton).
Connect directly to GTA RP servers.
Manage mods and server resources.
Offer a user-friendly interface for players.
Why this project?
I believe there is a growing demand for native gaming solutions on Linux. Creating a dedicated client would be an innovative way to strengthen the community and facilitate access to GTA RP for more people.
What do I need?
I don't have the technical knowledge necessary to program or architect a project of this scale. Therefore, I'm looking for people who are experts in:
Programming in C++, Python, or other languages.
Developing graphical user interfaces (GUIs).
Network configuration and client/server communication.
Knowledge of games and the GTA RP community.
If you like the idea and are interested in collaborating, please reply to this thread or send me a message. Let's make this idea a reality together!

Watch_Dogs doesn't seem to run, but all my other games seems to work just fine
Tried Proton Log from someone else's advice, but I wasn't sure of what to make of it
I also followed several of the tips from ProtonDB from the several launch commands like
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d11,dxgi=n,b" %command%or
gamemoderun %command%None of these seems to work for me regardless of the compatibility version from GE-Proton9-10, Proton Experimental, 9.0-4, 8.0-5, and so on
I'm almost desperate enough to try a different distro to see if it'll work, but I wasn't sure if I should do that yet, any comment is appreciated, apologies if I missed another info I should've put

Games no longer launching using same gamescope command
My normal command is
gamescope -f -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 144 --force-grab-cursor --mangoapp -- %command%
and games would work just fine. as of yesterday or so games would no longer launch no matter the game. If I remove gamescope it launches fine. I would Like to keep using gamescope. I did some research and apparently there used to be problems with NVIDIA and gamescope. I have used gamescope for many many games with no issues till now
I originally tried on my Endeavour OS install that I have been using for some time but then since I have been meaning to try out cachyos I then tried same thing there and it still does not work with gamescope. I have looked through the proton logs but if im being honest no idea what im looking for. Any help would be appreciated :)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
- NVIDIA driver 575.64.05
- OS: CachyOS x86_64
I have tried various proton versions
- Experimental
- Experimental bleeding edge
- 9.0-4
- 10.0-2 (beta)
- proton-CachyOS (native package)
I can successfully run gamescope -f -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 144 --force-grab-cursor --mangoapp -- glxgears

Need help getting ea app games to work
Switched to linux (cachy os to be exact) about a week ago. I have quite a few games that I bought via steam that also require that terrible ea app. After some digging around I found out that I can download the app using lutris, but the problem is that when I download the ea app that way it does not detect any of the games I have installed. So basically it tells me that I need to install the game via steam (without giving me the option to install the game via the app itself for some fucking reason) even though the game is already installed on steam.
Does anyone know a fix for this issue? Thanks in advance

Has anyone here tried this awesome demo? I loved and It runs perfectly on Linux!
Gaming distros (Cachy, Nobara, Endeavour) crashing over and over again.
Guys a bit of a rant here, paragraphed.
I am quite noob. The only experience that I have with Linux is installing mint xfce on a different laptop.
Recently, I had installed installed Linux on 28/07, latest CachyOS KDE. Crashed multiple times, whenever I used Dolphin for quickly going through folders or drives. Sometime I could access the TTY(virtual console 4, to be exact) to shut it down manually sometime it didn't.
Moved to Nobara 42, seemed promising when tried it on the Live USB. So I installed it. The same experience, but also as an addition, two times Nobara wasn't even able to Boot into the system. Yeah loading screen froze somehow. Sometimes I couldn't even open applications, even after the jumping animation ended, and even after the software popped up on the terminal, but only to vanish again. Same setup, latest Noabara with KDE. Ooh one thing, made me mad, when I couldn't even update the system from the terminal, literally crashed from "sudo dnf update"
Next when I booted into the LiveUSB, the system didn't froze for once, which I had seen for CachyOS live usb stick sometimes. So I thought this is it, I can settle down. Installation was smooth. Same setup, Latest Endeavour with KDE. Was going smooth, tried to freeze the system while popping the application launcher or the start menu multiple times and etc. But the problem came with Dolphin, the file manager for KDE. Just finished copying my files from a external drive, was moving through folders and the items in it, then it crashed. Used TTY. Booted again and then did the same thing again. I had to use TTY again.
CachyOS: Manually downloaded X11 after few crashes, but it still crashed in the end.
Nobara42: Used as it is. Got mad and didn't stick long enough.
EndeavourOS: First tried Wayland then X11. Crashed in both cases.
Post-rant:
Here's my po-aah-ooh setup:
Intel core i5-6200U (4)
Intel HD Graphics 520
8GB RAM
HP 440 G3
Suggest me a gaming (preferably Arch based, I don't like bloats and Ubuntu) distro with a good DE (I am still a noob, can't setup stack myself). I had installed Cachy with XFCE, but the meta key doesn't work like it does in KDE, so please help if you can regarding this or else suggest another one (I don't like GNOME).
I plan to game and daily drive the Linux distribution, no more Windows, only Linux.
This was always my partition scheme.
/boot/efi/ --> 512 MiB / 1GiB (Nobara) || another 1 GiB for /boot for Nobara specifically.
SWAP --> 8GiB
/root --> rest of SSD (512GB)
/home --> whole HDD (1TB)
FAT32 for boot/efi/ and ext4 for the rest.

I've been working on Rock Crusher, an incremental game with a massive skill tree where you crush rocks on a mysterious planet. Demo is out now. It has native Linux builds and runs great on Steam Deck as well.

Banned from EA
I got an email saying my account was banned. All I can think it is from is playing Titanfall 2 on my Linux box. Is this a known issue?

The Finals Kernel Level Anti Cheat
So I recently learned that the finals latest update introduced Colonel level anti-cheat. I do not support companies who use kernel level anti-cheats so I decided to uninstall / boycott the game. Then I realized under steam store page steam lets me know that they have a granola level anti-sheet but I have to remove it manually. I'm using a Linux machine running Arch. I asked chat GPT for some advice on it on how to uninstall it and it told me that if I played directly through steam using proton that it does not install a kernel level driver. It said that it only installs on windows machines is this true?
What I had done when I found this out is I went into the .steam folder and found The Finals folder and deleted it. I think I am safe from the kernel driver did I get rid of it correctly or did I do it wrong?

Touchscreen TOUCH input rotation
This might be a bit too specific for most users, but it's an issue I have that feels like I'm very close to solving, but also still missing something.
Long story short, I'm trying to make a homemade/cyberdeck palmtop with a pi4 for its brains. It's working fine, but I'm having one main issue - the touchscreen is vertical and I need to rotate its touch input.
With that said, I already found tons of ways of rotating the screen on different systems I'm planning to use on this, but they all have the same screen rotation issue if I have the screen set horizontally for whatever reason. The input and output of the touch aren't matching.
I looked at a lot of things and most of them seem to point to editing a coordinate transformation matrix, but most of them are focused on xinput. What I'm dealing with atm is libinput under the batocera system.
The things I figured so far are the libinput info, that I need a 40-input.conf file to set the modifications, and its contents.
libinput info:
Device: Waveshare Waveshare -079-HD
Kernel: /dev/input/event0
Group: 1
Seat: seat0, default
Size: 512x293mm
Capabilities: touch
Tap-to-click: n/a
Tap-and-drag: n/a
Tap drag lock: n/a
Left-handed: n/a
Nat.scrolling: n/a
Middle emulation: n/a
Calibration: identity matrix
Scroll methods: none
Click methods: none
Disable-w-typing: n/a
Disable-w-trackpointing: n/a
Accel profiles: n/a
Rotation: 0.0
base 40-input.conf file contents:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "libinput touchscreen catchall"
MatchIsTouchscreen "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "libinput"
EndSection
I also got a few links while searching for this, but I just need to figure out how I can adjust the rotation value in libinput info, or if I need the whole transformation matrix shenanigans.
