It's driving me insane to see how fast Linux update is

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 12:38

You can do whatever you have in background while Linux is updating the system with no loss performance. Beside on Windows side, Windows Update uses too more resources and take too much time to update the system.

Kubunutu 24.04 slow steam download and slowing down the whole Network

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 12:16

Hi all,

I have recently switched to Kubuntu and so far everything works fine, except the download speed in steam.

Here are the symptoms:
My internet connection is 1000mbit/s up and 250mbit/s down. I can confirm that doing various speedtests, the connection works fine on linux and on windows.
When I try to download a game from steam, I only get 20mbit/s at best.
The most interesting part is, that as soon as I start downloading something on steam, my whole internet becomes slow and sluggish. And not just on my PC but also on my wifes PC and on my Phone and so on. So everything becomes very slow. When I ping 8.8.8.8 during a download I get a ping of 1-2s.
As soon as I stop/pause the download, it takes a few seconds, then the internet is fine again.
I am dualbooting windows on the PC (for now) and when I go into Windows I can download stuff from steam with 800-900mbit/s and even then, the internet connection is fine, so it is a Linux related issue.

What have I tried so far to fix it:
Ofc I have searched the internet for solutions and there are a bunch out there, but so far, none have worked for me. Here is what I already tried:

Unfortunately nothing helps so far. It is a bit frustrating, since everything else that I need seems to work on Kubuntu. I managed to install some games by transferring them from my wifes PC and I can play those without any issues. Any other download on the PC also works without any issues.

I would appreciate if anybody can point me to other things to try since I am running out of options myself and I would really like to switch to linux but this is quite the dealbreaker since I do game a lot on my PC.

Any help is appreciated and thx in advance

EDIT: formatting

EDIT2: I found a "solution", if I switch to WIFI (same Router) everything works fine I can download stuff (6000-700mbit/s with wifi) from steam. So the Problem only exists with my wired connection and on steam downloads, everything else works fine and my pings are fine during downloads on steam.

Back on Mint after having to leave.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 09:41

In June last year I got a new PC with a newly released AMD RX 9060XT GPU. I couldn't use Mint because the Kernel was too old, I attempted to install Mint with the aim of modifying the Kernel, but I couldn't even get Mint installed.

So I had to move to Fedora KDE which had a newer Kernel version. It was fine, but it didn't feel like home the way Mint does. As soon as I heard the news that Mint ships newer Kernels with their releases now, I installed it.

A concern I had was whether I'd have screen tearing issues with my AMD GPU, thankfully I came across this post, which contains a very simple fix for that. It worked perfectly.

The only other concern I had was, if Mint /Cinnamon/X11 would negatively impact gaming performance, I'm pleased to say it absolutely hasn't, if anything I seem to be getting slightly better performance with modern 2023-2025 games on Mint (no idea why).

So, all that's left to say is, I'm so pleased to be back home on Mint.

How would a 5060 perform on linux (Specifily a distro of SteamOS)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 09:19

I recently upgraded from steam deck gaming to a desktop, the specs are intel i5-14400F an RTX 5060 8gb, 16gb of ddr5 and I've heard about all the issues linux has with Nvida, if i had a amd gpu i wouldn't be asking this question.

I do use arch on a old thinkpad (because I couldn't install any version of SteamOS on it, and i know Steam OS is a distro of arch) so I am very familiar with the OS, but I want to play games that use an anti-cheat (Rust, VRChat, etc...) Should I dual boot then?

How do I attach RenderDoc to a proton steam game?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 07:08

In my spare time lately I've been trying to make an animated desktop wallpaper based off a location in Expedition 33. I need a couple of the textures from this location, as I am not skilled or well-equipped enough to make them myself nor have I found them elsewhere. So, I've spent all morning trying to rip them using RenderDoc, with limited success. From various other reddit posts I've tried the following things:

- Launching Lutris with RenderDoc and then launching the game from there

- Adding the "ENABLE_VULKAN_RENDERDOC_CAPTURE=1" environment variable to both the launch of Lutris and the game

- Enabling "capture child processes" in RenderDoc (this looked like it was doing something for a second, a few processes popped up in a panel in RenderDoc but I couldn't figure out how to capture them, and pressing the capture hotkey in the game (which is f12, right) did nothing.

I have yet to see the RenderDoc overlay that should pop up in the top left trying any of these methods. I don't need to see the overlay, I hear it doesn't show sometimes, I just need to make a couple captures to get textures out of. Various system details provided below, will provide more if needed:

OS: Ubuntu Resolute Raccoon (26.04) (development branch) x86_64

Host: B550M DS3H

Kernel: Linux 6.19.0-3-generic

DE: KDE Plasma 6.5.5

WM: KWin (Wayland)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X (24) @ 4.67 GHz

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 [Discrete]

RAM: enough

Cheers!

World of Warcraft on Linux Mint

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 06:57

I got everything running using Steam as a bottle. My problem is setting up a shortcut to the game itself. Where does Linux install the game files so I can point Steam to launch the game instead of the Bnet launcher? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help porting save files from Windows to CachyOS (Expedition 33)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 04:25

Hey folks, finally switched my gaming PC back to Linux after dealing with the nightmare of windows 11 and I need some help.

I do not use Steam cloud because it’s very unreliable for me (my internet is rather slow and syncing fails very often) so I made a local backup of the save files for a couple of my games by moving the save folders to an external drive before installing Linux.

Now I’m trying to figure out how to restore my saves for Expedition 33 because I don’t know where the saves are stored at in Cachy and I can’t find them.

Any good ideas where to look?

I made a kernel module for overclocking USB devices (gamepads, mice, etc.)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 03:49

This DKMS module allows you to overclock *some* USB devices by overriding their endpoints' bInterval values in the device descriptors – if the device physically allows you to poll it at higher frequency and will give you more data.

Back on Windows this (with the same method) was rather trivial using the "hidusbf" program. And ever since moving to Linux I was pretty annoyed I didn't have a similarly simple enough way of doing the same thing. So basically I guess I had no choice but to make one.

And the module allows doing that for theoretically any USB device without patching and re-compiling the kernel. Installation instructions are in the README (there's .deb, .rpm and AUR packages):

https://github.com/p0358/usb_oc-dkms

So let me know what you think, and if you managed to overclock any gamepads or other devices, or want to try.

WASD keys randomly getting stuck in game for a second. In marvel rivals.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 03:24

So I am fighting moving around. I try to move to the left (Press a) but it doesn't work. I then press the d button and then it moves. I press a again and it works. This has happened in a lot of matches and I don't know where to start, to troubleshoot it. I have lost some fights because of it. Should I switch to proton-ge?

I'm on ubuntu 25.10. Running proprietary NVIDIA drivers.
