Steam games won't launch when they're installed on another disk and needs Proton.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Februar 2026 - 01:55

To give some context, I got two SSDs: One with Fedora (which I'll call SSD A) and the other with a minimal Windows partition and another NTFS partition which I use to install games (which I'll call SSD B). For some reason, games that requires Proton to run do not launch when they're installed on this game partition on SSD B, but games that has natively Linux support do run just fine. Moving Proton games to SSD A fix the issue, so I can guess the problem must be the partition being NTFS or maybe Steam can't handle Proton games being on other drive. Do anyone knows what is happening?

I tested with Dishonored and Subnautica Below Zero which needs Proton to run. They don't launch on SSD B but do on SSD A. I also tested with Oxygen Not Included and Terraria which do not need Proton. Both runs just fine. I tried to test with Dust: An Elysian Tail which has Linux support and it launches on both SSDs, but the game has some strange graphical issue that makes the screen constantly black.

CS2 issues solved ▶️

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Februar 2026 - 01:36

After countless driver changes, optimization, loads of troubleshooting, game launch options, and linux distros, my PC would not play CS2.

All other games would launch and play fine, no crashes.

By now.... AI knows all my system and story of my life attempting to get it fixed.

I have plugged, unplugged hardware (gpu).

12th gen i5

16gb ram

Gtx1080Ti

PSU 850w

Guess what it was....?

Maintenance...🪛 thermal paste on the GPU.

Probably the power spike caused the gpu to throttle down momentary and vulkan crash and freeze whole PC.

After cleaning and replacing thermal paste on the GPU success, everything works smoothly.

Good luck people 🤙

Tacto: bring everything across your Linux system to your fingertips with just a phone or tablet

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16. Februar 2026 - 01:00

Hey r/linux_gaming! I've posted here before about OpenDeck, my Linux app for the Elgato Stream Deck - which now has over 1,500 users - but today I'm here to show off something that doesn't need you to own a $200 piece of hardware. In fact, you only need your phone.

If you've thought about getting a Stream Deck before, to control your streams, calls, audio, media, RGB, smart home, or IDE, or to monitor your server uptime, CPU usage, or pomodoro timers, but never committed to buying a Stream Deck, Tacto might let you turn any phone or tablet with a web browser into a Stream Deck Mini for free.

Unlike Elgato's Stream Deck Mobile app, Tacto is made for Linux - although the image below shows Tacto working on macOS as well, I use Arch btw. All the software that runs on your computer is developed in the open, and premium features in the Tacto app like custom background images (that support OpenDeck development) are half the price of Elgato's offerings.

Tacto inherits all the features of OpenDeck, such as Multi Actions, Toggle Actions, automatic profile switching when you switch apps, and Linux-native media control, plus support for hundreds of open-source plugins made with the Stream Deck SDK. OpenDeck's 1,500+ users make use of OBS, Discord, VSCode, Home Assistant, and Spotify plugins, and many more.

Tacto's still in beta, but every plugin and action that works in OpenDeck should be working with Tacto. Head over to https://tacto.live/ to try it out - I would love to get your feedback :)

Lightweight screenshots for flatpak games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 23:51

I usually add all games I play to steam so I can take screenshots with the game overlay there. Unfortunately, it appears steam overlay straight up doesn't work with flatpak programs, so that doesn't work.

OBS makes gigantic .png screenshots, which you cannot change.

Can someone recommend me a program that is lightweight, preferably gives customization options, and allows me to take normal-sized screenshots? Bonus points if I can make it so it only captures screenshots in certain games.

Just got a Razer Huntsman V3 Pro - Can't get it to work in Polychromatic

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 22:42

I just replaced all my devices with Razer gear (Tartarus Pro, Basilisk V3 Pro and Huntsman TKL V3 Pro). The Tar isn't supported, but the other two are. However, in Polychromatic, I can't interact with the Huntsman, it will let me interact with the mouse, though. I'm on CachyOS, too. Also, not sure if it's related, but I can't change the chroma effects on the Huntsman with fn + ctrl + number key.

I've done a ton of searching just to get openrazer working, but I can't figure out why the Huntsman isn't cooperating. What am I missing? TIA!

Unexpected great performance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 21:08

I was torn between Nobara and CachyOS, I ended up choosing Nobara (just because it looked more simple and it was my first Linux approach) and a week ago I installed it on my primary SSD. For context, my GPU is a 4070 Super.

Performance varies, some games the loss is minimal (Rocket League), some others the performance loss is major (The Finals, 40FPS loss and stutter when an enemy is close), while others get way better performance(up to 50% more, i have no idea how), like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, until it saturates VRAM and it starts stuttering.

I don't know if this behavior is expected, and I don't know what to make of it, but I know there should be an update around the corner for DX12 games (something about Heap Descriptor in DirectX->Vulkan traduction?) and I'm marvelled how some games can run so much better even under proton.

I really hope many more can come to Linux, because I don't miss Windows one bit, Nobara is snappy, fast, doesn't gobble up ram, file transfer with external sources is chef's kiss.
One strange thing I don't understand is why everytime it asks to elaborate Vulkan's shader but in some games, if it reaches 100% the games crashes even before starting, while if i just skip it it's all good.

Do you have some tips regarding the VRAM problem or the performance loss on some games? :)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 20:23

I was just wondering what OS are the best for Linux Gaming? Right now I am using Pop!_OS. I don't plan on Changing any time soon but if I were to change what would the best options be?
