Steam deck oled or rog ally x?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2024 - 16:18

Looking to buy a handheld, and I can't really find a review that covers my use case. Any help is appreciated.

  • I have a gaming PC for heavy game. So I don't care about running eldenring or cyberpunk or wukong, etc. But I'd love to run baldur's gate 3 on it.
  • I don't want windows. I won't buy a game that doesn't work on linux. I'm okay with installing bazzite or tinkering with Linux.
  • best battery/screen/service preferred. But this seems to be the tough part of the choice.
  • (edit) probably won't dock it

What do you guys recommend?

CS2 - Crazy resolution problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2024 - 15:59

Switched to Tumbleweed recently, loving it so far; and have had zero trouble playing any of the games in my library.

Of course though, my first major issues come from CS2, the first AAA game I've tried to play in a very long time. I''m having this crazy resolution issue. Basically, my personal preference is usually playing at 4:3 at 1600x1200, but when I enable that the quality takes a major drop far beyond what it should be, and also doesn't allow me to select 165hz as a refresh rate. (I know that using 4:3 does obviously decrease quality somewhat, but I'm talking like an insane loss in resolution that isn't normal for 1600x1200)

The only way I can use 165hz is by playing at 16:9 and 2560x1440, which I don't really want to do unless there's a way to fix this?

My desktop is on X11, was also wondering if I should switch to Wayland if that would improve anything in this regard.

I don't know if it's relevant- but I have a full AMD setup with a 7800x3d and an RX 7800xt.

Any fixes to this?

Sea of Thieves on Linux... but without steam, possible?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2024 - 15:35

I have Sea of Thieves on the Microsoft Windows store and I'm looking for a way to even just emulate the Xbox application (even though after a few days of searching it seems impossible). I'm on an arch distro and I'm looking for any way to not have to repurchase SOT on Steam, do you have any advice?

Getting wine to route traffic

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2024 - 14:34

Hey everyone!

I'm running into a pretty niche situation here and I was hoping yall would have some ideas!

So, I play final fantasy 14, and theres a third party plugin for that game called xivalexander which helps reduce animation lock which is very good for monk gameplay! Anyhow, I've been trying my damnedest to get it to work on linux, but I keep consistently running into issues with the network side. The second I try to log into the game, a socket opens then immediately closes, and the game throws a lobby server error. I tried the dev's alternative for consoles and macs (and linux vms) and it got the same error specifically after setting up network routes to the servers.

I'm wondering if wine/proton can handle that, and if so, how do I go about enabling them? So far I've tried setcap cap_net_raw+epi and modifying /etc/hosts, but neither of these worked.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear em! I really want to get this working, as its such a massive QoL boost for monk. Thanks!

Modifier keys not working with proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2024 - 13:43

Hello, I’m running linux mint Debian edition (downloaded yesterday). I tried playing games with steam proton and noticed i cannot activate steam ingame overlay and that i can’t run (shift not working) and no modifier keys are not working under proton. Thankfully i can still alt-tab out of the game, but the game didn’t take input. Other letter keys and arrows worked fine. Also tried online keyboard tester and confirmed that modifier keys work. This issue is new to me. I have played these games on ubuntu before under proton with no problems. Does anyone know a fix?

Which distro is best for Nvidia

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2024 - 12:53

I used Linux in the past had some issues but I went back again and installed Bazzite and so far I am really happy with it. It works fine. I heard about Cachyos being better than Bazzite. So for Nvidia Gpu what would be the best distro.

MSI gs63vr 8gb ram I7 6th gen CPU GTX 1060

I mainly want to play games and do regular tasks.
