GTA 5 Enhanced constant freezes only with DLSS Frame Generation (Fedora 43)

After loading the game, it runs fine for a minute until it completely freezes, requiring me to kill it from System Monitor. I have tried running it with Proton Experimental, Proton GE 10-34, still freezes on both.

When I run Steam via terminal, it keeps showing err:winevulkan:signaller\_worker wait timed out with non-empty poll list. while it's frozen.

If I disable DLSS Frame Generation, it seems to run just fine, but I'd really prefer to play it with Frame Generation with my high refresh rate monitor. Other games work fine, even with Multi Frame Generation.

Here are my system specs:

OS: Fedora Linux 43 KDE Plasma Desktop
Kernel version: 6.19.10-200.fc43.x86-64
KDE Plasma version: 6.6.3
Graphics Platform: Wayland
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB
RAM: 32 GB

Is there any fix for this? Any help would be really appreciated.

A Linux Gaming Experience

I just wanted to share my positive experience with gaming on Linux. It’s a bit of a niche situation but demonstrates the advantages of Linux quite well.

I’ve been playing wow’s the burning crusade anniversary and I have two accounts which I use to “dual box”. Which is essentially playing two characters at once. Not using any input software but having one follow the other for example.

This requires I have two instances of the game open. I could set one to be a small window on the lowest settings, but I am often switching between the two windows and prefer to at least have them full screen.

I dual boot and on windows, I need to lock the fps to 60 and typically drop the settings to 3 out of 10. If I bump them up to focus on one game and forget to close the other or have a browser open I’ll encounter “not enough memory” errors which result in the game crashing and sometimes websites or discord.

However on Linux using faugus launcher, I’ve been able to have two instances of the game run on separate monitors at each monitors native resolution and max refresh rate and usually set the graphics to 8 out of 10.

I have an older gpu and I’m really only able to do this with a low load game like classic wow, but it still is a testament to Linux’s power.

PS5 DualSense controller not having all functions working

I started playing Until dawn recently and when i first booted the game up the dualsense controller was working fine (adaptive triggers and motion sensor) but after the game had a freeze and i had to forcefully close it all the dualsense specific stuff stopped working.

i've tried using proton 10.0-4 and protonGE 10-34 but neither have made a difference and idk where to start with troubleshooting

FSR4 command not working on Wuthering Waves

Can't run Genshin Impact

Did something changed in genshin cause 3 months before i just put it in steam and it worked each time... well now it ain't working

My setup:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800H + RTX 3050 Mobile
  • Arch Linux 6.19.10-zen1-1-zen, Hyprland WM (BTW)
  • 1920x1080 @ 120Hz, nvidia 595.58.03 driver

What I've tried:

  • Proton Experimental, Hotfix, GE (10-28), dwproton
  • Native Lutris script

Key log errors:

wineserver: NTSync up and running! [umu.umu_run:740] DEBUG: Child 412808 exited with wait status: 0Monitored process exited.

The game launches through UMU (Lutris runtime) but crashes immediately with exit code 0. No errors, just silent failure. The prefix keeps getting corrupted between attempts.

Has anyone had success with this specific hardware combo on Arch? Really want to stay on Linux for Genshin but it's becoming impossible.

Local game streaming?

I was curious as to what some of you guys use for streaming a game from pc to whatever your playing on. right now I have a windows machine I built out of some older hardware I had laying around and tossed it into my rack so that I could use some cad software and other software that doesnt play super nice on linux. and I use steamlink right now to stream games from it. but I started playing deadside again and realized that steam link really compresses the video and I can't see anything or anyone on the game. I have a 2.5gbps link between both pc's and dont plan on ever playing outside my network anytime soon. I was reading about moonlight but I figured maybe someone might have a better solution. or someone might tell me im an idiot and missed a really cool setting that was out in the open somewhere, that would be cool too.

Resident Evil Requiem keeps crashing on CachyOS with latest Nvidia driver

OS: CachyOS | Kernel: 6.18.20-1-cachyos-lts (64-bit) [I'm on lts because I rolled back to an older driver] | KDE Plasma 6.6.3 | Wayland

CPU: Intel i5 13600k | GPU: RTX 4080 Super, Ram 32 gb

I was using Proton Experimental | Nvidia driver 595.58.03

Initially, I was on Nvidia driver 590.48.01. The ray tracing option in the game wouldn't show up unless I put /WineDetectionEnabled:False in launch options. After that, the option showed up and I was able to select all the options without it crashing. The game worked great. Then I updated and it just kept crashing randomly. Often, it would happen when I get a cutscene and then it will get stuck on the loading screen. Now, I can get to the main menu, but it will crash on the loading screen when I start a new game and I have to force close.

I noticed that if I remove the /WineDetectionEnabled:False from launch options, the game works with the latest driver, but then I lose all ray tracing features. I switched to Proton 10.0-4. I ended up rolling back to driver 580.119.02 and it works again. Is there a way to get it to work using the latest drivers or am I just out of luck and should wait?

Stuttering in Elden Ring: Night Reign every session

Hello everybody!

When Elden Ring: Nightreign was new and I played it, it ran flawlessly. No stuttering, constant 60 FPS, no complaints at all.

At some point the game started having problems, specifically:

Every round I play (sometimes multiple times per round) the game would start to stutter and the constant 60 FPS vary up and down wildly for a few seconds.

This gets worse over the course of a few seconds until it hits a breaking point, where it

  • either somehow starts working again
  • or freezes the game for a second or two

The game always recovers, never crashes and then goes back to constant 60 FPS. That freeze did get me killed a few times though. I've been having this problem persist for months now.

Technical details

My setup is

  • AMD Ryzen 7800X3D
  • AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • 64 GB DDR5 RAM
  • ASRock X670E PG Lightning (tried multiple BIOS update versions, problem persists)
  • EndeavourOS (arch based) (also tested Fedora Workstation, problem persists)

What I tried to fix

  • Re-install game
  • Install different OS (see technical details)
  • Use different DE (GNOME / KDE)
  • Proton versions (default version, fixed to proton9, proton10, experimental)
  • Launch options like MANGOHUD, gamemoderun, PROTON_LOG=1, nothing special

Some things I've learned

I do not play other multiplayer-based games too much, but I did play a little ARC Raiders, a ton of Rocket League and some Battlefield 5, none of these shows the same faulty behaviour. Actually, none of my other (singleplayer / offline) games behave like this.

Performance with Proton experimental varies, sometimes it's better, sometimes worse.

The stuttering never happens in the main menu, in your in-game-base, only when playing a session.

I may be wrong, but to me there seemed to be no clear pattern to find. It wasn't stuttering specifically when a lot of stuff was going on, visually, on the screen. It just stutters and freezes sometimes, even when I'm just running somewhere.

When I played with PROTON_LOG=1 that resulted in an 8+ GB logfile for 1 game session. As I do not really understand what's written there, I cannot be sure what's wrong exactly.

I tried feeding some of the suspected problematic messages into an LLM, which told me that it seemed like trying to access a wrong memory address range in RAM or something along the way. Though of course I could not upload the whole file, as this would crash the LLM completely (I tried), so it only got to see a few lines I fed to it and is missing a lot of the picture.

To show some example of the messages with line-count-comparison:

The whole logfile is 96 081 447 lines.

Interestingly, the line count for Errors is just 35, most of them are about

:err:vkd3d-proton:vkd3d_get_format: Invalid format xxx

with xxx being a number from 116 - 129.

Solution?

As I have re-installed the game, wiped my whole PC and re-installed a different OS with a different DE, I pretty much have ruled out that it's some kind of software- or config-problem on my side, right? Especially considering the game already worked perfectly fine from the start.

Does anyone here have an idea on where to go from here? Is there something I can still try to find the root cause? Am I the only one with this problem, or is somebody else also experiencing this?

Fixing the (Ctrl + Key) AZERTY

Hey everyone,

I know this is a problem that most QWERTY users don't have to deal with, but if anyone with a non-US layout has encountered this and could shed some light, I'd really appreciate it.

I recently switched from Pop!_OS 24.04 to Linux Mint 22.3, which means I went from Wayland back to X11. Since then, I have this weird issue: when I hold CTRL (to crouch) and press Q (to strafe left on my AZERTY keyboard), my character just stops moving completely. It's like the Q key input is just ignored. Weirdly enough, if I map crouch to SHIFT instead of CTRL, I have no issues with Q.

I'm taking CS2 and Minecraft as examples because those are the only games where I've run into this so far.

Right now, I'm forced to switch my keyboard layout to US QWERTY during my gaming sessions just to be able to play (physically pressing my AZERTY keys works fine when the OS thinks it's QWERTY). It's a lot of mental gymnastics, especially when I need to type in chat, and I really just want to fix this issue.

I tried switching to Mint + Wayland (since Wayland on PopOS didn't have this bug), but Wayland on Mint is a disaster for my setup right now.

I hope I explained this clearly, it's kind of a weird issue to describe.

How can i install OpenAG for Half-Life to play Adrenaline Gamer?

with the 6.18.7-76061807-generic kernel, And i dont know how to download Adrenaline Gamer on Linux. When i was in Windows i used to old client with the bugfix patch. But i dont know how to install OpenAG.

Remove optiscaler files installed by Goverlay

Hi guys, I was wondering. How can I cleanup all the optiscaler files that has been installed by goverlay without reinstalling the full game? I did remove the optiscaler.ini from the game file and the dxdgi.dll but is this enough? I'm using dlss spoofers with my 9070xt on games that doesn't have fsr 3.1

Is there a clean way to to this?

Overwatch Freezing on Fedora 43 (GNOME) | RTX 2060 + i5-10400F

Hey everyone,

I’m running into a frustrating issue with Overwatch 2 on Fedora and could really use some help.

Full Disclosure: I’m a complete Linux beginner. I just installed Fedora recently, so I’m still figuring out how everything works. Please go easy on me with the technical jargon!

Specs:
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F (no integrated graphics)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
  • OS: Fedora (Workstation Edition / GNOME)
  • Driver: NVIDIA Proprietary
The Situation:

Initially, I had an issue with insanely long Vulkan shader compilation—it was taking up to 30 minutes every launch. I managed to fix that, but now I’ve hit a wall.

The Current Problem: Now that the game starts, I can play for about 5-10 minutes perfectly fine. Then, the entire system completely freezes.

  • No mouse movement, no audio, and the keyboard doesn't respond.
  • Only a hard reboot (power button) helps.
What I’ve already tried:
  • Proton Versions: I’ve experimented with several different versions, including GE-Proton and Proton Experimental, but the freeze happens on all of them.
  • Launch Options: I’ve tried adding various launch parameters (like __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE, etc.), but nothing seems to stop the crashing.

I suspect it might be something related to the NVIDIA drivers or maybe a setting in GNOME, but since I'm new to Linux, I don't really know how to check the logs after a system hang.

Has anyone encountered this "5-10 minute" freeze on Fedora with an NVIDIA card? Any simple step-by-step advice on what to check next would be greatly appreciated!

Nearly impossible to Run diablo IV on Fedora 43 With Plasma KDE 6 and NVIDIA GPU

Hi there guys!

I have seen a post of another dude here in this very same community saying this "Memory Leak Issue had been fixed months ago" , however, I've been experiencing this situation to a point that I am almost giving up on playing diablo IV.

I am currently playing on a Dell G15 5520 that has the following specs:

Intel i9 12900 20 Cores Processor, 16 GB RAM DDR5 5600, 1Tb SSD Nvme.2, RTX 3060 6GB.

I know my VRAM is quite low and this is something that makes the problem even worst for me, however, other people with the same amount of VRAM are still able to play the game and I was (on my previous linux distro. Where I had other issues not related to this).

I am currently using a Linux Fedora 43 Powered by Plasma 6 KDE GUI and I am also running the game through Proton-GE 10.34 + Nvidia 595.45.04 driver. Everything in the game is set to low + DLSS on Performance or FSR on performance.

I have tried plenty of things already :

  • Setting up a dxvk.conf file while defining a max vram limit of 4.6 GB
  • Setting up my LocalPrefs.txt with low settings
  • disabling all blur/transparency effects from my plasma environment
  • updating GPU driver from 580 to the current version 595
  • Tried different ProtonGE versions from 9.10 to the current 10.34
  • Deleted dstorage files from game folder
  • Using gamescope and setting up isolated compositor

Tried the following Launch Options:

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 VKD3D_VRAM_CAP_EXT=4608 VKD3D_CONFIG=nodxr,no_upload_hvv gamemoderun mangohud WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dstorage,dstoragecore=d" %command% -disableds

Nothing has worked till now... I can see my VRAM rising from 4.1gb non-stop till it reaches 6gb and the game crashes.

However, this game is showing up as Platinum on ProtonDB and a lot of people are able to play this, but how ?!
