CS2 bad performance AMD 6700XT

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. September 2024 - 09:34

Hi everyone, as the title says, I am trying to play CS2 on my Fedora Linux machine. I have the game set at high settings. When I start in a lobby, I get around 160 FPS, which is not great but acceptable. However, after about 2 minutes, it drops to 90-100 FPS. I am using the native version (Vulkan) without compatibility layers.

I am currently using:

  • AMD 6700XT
  • Ryzen 5600

Has anyone found a fix to improve the FPS? ^^

Game recommendations for sick people

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. September 2024 - 09:34

Hello friends I am sick right now and I would like to enjoy a good old videogame! Something that isn't super huge or hard to get into. Games like this that I really enjoyed were for example torchlight 2 or brotato. Can be any genre and can cost some money too. Thank you so much ❤️

Proton Games share same prefix?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. September 2024 - 08:40

Hi,

I have a question regarding proton prefixes.

Since Steam for Windows games creates new prefix for each game, this eventually does take up some space. When using third apps that might require additional Windows dependencies to be installed, sometimes I need to do same repeatable steps for several prefixes(depending), which is time consuming.

I understand that Steam creates prefixes for each game is to reduce troubleshooting and optimization but I wish there was a way to select one prefix for many games for the sake of availability and easiness, depending on the situation.

So my questions are:

  1. Is there a way to do it?
  2. If there is a way, how would Protontricks GUI display the info when you launch protontricks, if somehow you "merge" the prefixes into one?

Minecraft taking several minutes to boot on fedora 40

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. September 2024 - 06:06

Hi there! I recently purchased an AMD 7040 series framework 16 laptop and installed the officially supported fedora 40 install on it. This is my first time on linux so I'm still learning, but so far everything has been working great and I like the OS quite a lot, but when I went to launch minecraft, it took almost 3 minutes to launch. I have tried using the minecraft launcher Flatpak, as well as the prisim launcher flatpak, but nothing I do seems to fix it. In the logs for the prism launcher the minecraft logs show that the instance gets hung up after stating the minecraft process ID. Anyone encounter a similar problem or have any ideas on how to troubleshoot it? Thanks!

Steam used to run smoothly while downloading games, now it's impossible to download and play on the same SSD

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. September 2024 - 04:56

I have the settings for "allow downloading while playing" on, and always have had it like that, both on Windows (years back) and on Linux nowadays. I never had issues downloading huge games while playing on the same drive, but ever since one or two weeks ago, something changed and I can't seem to play a game if Steam is downloading/patching something in that same drive.

Luckily, since my OS is installed in a different drive than my games, I'm not having problems with my system (such as this post mentions), but as soon as a download/patch start on my other drive, any game on that drive freezes/becomes unresponsive. If I try to launch a new game, it simply doesn't start (or will start and report an error quite soon after).

I've benchmarked the drive in question (2Tb SATA SSD with 800Gb of free space) with different methods (Disks, smartctl, manual tests rsyncing large files or large directories with multiple files), and everything seems fine, with the expected performance... only Steam itself causes issues.

Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Any fixes?

Drive in question:

Anyone playing OW2 with 8gb ram?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. September 2024 - 04:39

I have recently made a post about ow2 freezing and crashing on my system with 8 gb ram. And I have seen several other posts here in the past 2 years about the game freezing. I have asked a friend of mine(also 8gb ram) to download the game and he has similar issues.

It seems like ow2 tries to use more than 8 gb ram in linux, though I am not certain if that's the case.

If anyone is playing the game with 8gb ram , what steps did you follow to get it working.
