So I’m building my first pc and the parts are all arriving within a week and I don’t want to use windows but I’m hesitant because of the lack of support for games do you guys see this getting better for major games like the cod franchise? I really want to use Linux but I don’t want to have games I like to play that aren’t compatible.

I Just got Age of mythology Retold on steam and when I launch it this is what I’m greeted by, I’m on the latest version of Pop OS and everything is up to date. I’ve tried a few different versions of proton but other than that I haven’t done much. I have a 7600x and an intel arc A770 so maybe it’s driver related?

Hi friends! Been long time issue for me trying to run Wayland with my Nvidia card (rtx 3070) tried multiple distros currently running cachyos after long time on fedora but same issue with both of them. The issue is when I'm just clicking around in my de (gnome for that matter though kde had same issue for me) the UI feels not smooth or at least not as smooth as it should be having a 240hz display... On x11 everything works fine and even my gf setup with older Nvidia gpu 1070 and 555 driver on fedora Wayland is smooth as butter. Maybe it's my monitor or PC which is a pre built predator Orion 3000 and matching predator monitor which I don't recall the model I will check if necessary. She has a dell monitor with 240hz refresh too btw. Tbh I'm actually thinking about selling this PC and building one with amd gpu and CPU combo because of this also sometimes my monitor doesn't turn on after reboot for some reason that I couldn't figure out until I reinstalled cachyos with gnome instead of kde which resolved it so far. Sorry for the rent would really appreciate any sort of advice or help here.

Preface: Im on Linux Mint, and rather new to the Linux system

For the last few days ive been trying to unbork my Elden Ring save game. I play it with an overhaul mod and have recently lost a large amount of progress since I improperly loaded the game. This progress would require me to start a new game. Im 70 hours into my current one, so I really dont want to. To fix this, I've found the best way is to either use the Elden Ring Debug tool or use Cheat Engine. Ive attempted to use both, but an running into different issues for each.

First, due to how I understand Linux operates, I needed to download SteamTinkerLauncher. Im launching both the debug tool and cheat engine through the tinkerlauncher. After successfully installing the launcher, I installed both cheat engine and debug tools into steam compdata for the game and the mod.

The debug tool has the issue of the entire window not being unintractable when the game boots up. I cannot even move the window. I have no idea why this happens, and when I try to run compatability through tinkerlauncher the debug tool instead crashes when the game launches.

For Cheat Engine, the engine does not seem to properly read the game and save being opened. Since im playing modded, easy anticheat is disabled by default but when I try to load the game up, I am confronted by an error that the anticheat is still enabled.

For both of these issues im at a loss as to what I can do. Nothing online seems to resemble the issues im dealing with. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Bought the ultra version, sat through the ten minutes loading screen, the broken lagging first animation now the game won’t render at all:(( I’ve been staring at this black and white screen for minutes don’t know what to do. The UI still works (I can pause the game) Tried to validate the files but didn’t work. Any help will be appreciated 🙏🙏🙏

My grandma has an old linux computer. She has a really old game (from 2002) and she would like to run it on her PC. Game works fine except sound: in-game music "plays fast" (it sounds like a music with 2x speed). I have never experienced that sort of bug earlier. No matter which wine version I use, the error still exist. I changed prefix architecture (32 / 64) also, but nothing changed.

So clearly there is an issue with sound. Dropped samples would explain why the music "sounds fast". I searched for solution on google and tried many advice. For example I installed gstreamer packages (with apt install):

• gstreamer1.0-libav

and 32-bit versions:

Hello everyone. I reinstalled Linux as my secondary OS, I installed steam and then MangoHud but for some reason if I enable MangoHud, the games don't start.

I press "play", it tries to open the game but then before the game or launcher opens, the play button turns green again. Anyone has any idea about it? How to fix it?

If it will be useful: CPU: r9 7900 GPU: Rx 7900xt OS: EndeavourOS DE: Gnome (Wayland) Steam Version: Runtime (through Pacman) MangoHud: 0.7.2 from GitHub.

Hi, Im in the process of deciding for a WM, currently at gnome, as I had those problems first in hyprland and KDE. (Game is hunt showdown)

When Im minimizing the game and then going back into it, my fps are drastically lowered, like from 140-160 to 70 and it stays like that for a 30-60 seconds. It goes back up, but still stays lower for the Rest of the game it feels. Had this also happen on Hyprland, it even crashed my PC once, so I guess this is wayland Issum?

Also, VRR(freesync) on gnome worked when I first booted the game and then stopped working (confirmed by looking at monitor Hz), menu). I suspect this also has to Do with minimizing, but I can Not confirm.

Any one had this happen before and has advive? 7900xtx+7800x3d Hardware, on endeavour os. Thank you!!

I have a Ryzen 5 5600x and 5700XT and I use Arch (btw) RPCS3 is unusable (Getting single digit fps in Demons Souls) and Elden Ring sputters around 50FPS

I then use AMDVLK on both and Demons Souls runs great and Elden Ring is locked to 60FPS. I guess the problem is solved but I really dont want to have two drivers at the same time and I know this isnt expected behavior

Hey al. So I am VERY confused. Whenever I double-click a Windows application in Dolphin file explorer, it launches just fine. But if I try to launch that application in the terminal with "wine /path/to/exe" it spits out an error message. In all my searching, it seems that that command SHOULD be the exact same as double clicking it, unless I'm seriously missing something. Let's take the self-hosted server for Single Player Tarkov for example.

If I run the exe by double clicking it, the server starts up fine and I can play the game just as if I was playing it on Windows, but if I try to run it with this command

I'm interested in upgrading to the Alienware QD-oled AW3423DWF and I would like to be able to take advantage of the HDR.

I use Arch and am on plasma 6.1 so I know it's generally "supported" but I don't know how well game support is. I've looked at the section for kde (in HDR monitor support) and I don't fully understand if there is a way to enable system wide game HDR or if it's only per game with gamescope.

I just want to know if there's anything I should now before I bite the bullet on this monitor.

Hi!

I saw a Steam community post about downloading free games that have been unlisted. It only stated that it works with Windows run command by running the command "steam://install/*game id*". Some other discussions have stated that it works by just copy-pasting to your browser, but that is not the case for me. I was wondering if there is any way to execute this on linux (or do I need to bust out my backup windows machine lol)?

Im using a Debian based distro.

Also plz be patient, I'm still a linux noob :D

"I have a 4k Samsung monitor. I accidentally switched to 1440p in display settings on tumbleweed, and now my monitor just says 'mode not supported'. I had to enable game mode in monitor settings just to get an image. Even if I select 4k, it just says 'mode not supported'. Game mode was a work around to get image back, but game mode is not usable. With game mode, I get flickering when moving the mouse around. If I disable game mode, now I just get 'mode not supported change resolution, even when I'm at supported ress."

Enyone ever experience this?

Shoude I just do a reinstall I can't find any info about this issue my guess is this is very unheard of thing

On any distro i've tried, using an AMD gpu, i have to disable "GPU accelerated rendering in web views" otherwise it constantly freezes and crashes.

Is there some package i can install to use this or is this just broken on Steam now? It works without it, but occasionally has graphic bugs. Nothing major, just annoying.

Currently on EndeavourOS Plasma Wayland, but i've had this issue on Arch, Fedora, openSUSE and Gnome as well.

I'm using endeavouros on a old lenovo laptop cus school and small games and such and when ever audio plays of any sort the whole thing starts to stutter alot I don't think it's cus of the distro cus it's done it for the other distros I've used on this laptop I've tried doing some research cus I originally thought It was something with the audio driver or some shit but that didn't work so I'm not quite sure what to do anymore cus alot of what I do light gaming, watching YouTube, or doing my assignments tend to start to stutter and it messes up with my progress alot does anyone have any idea of what could be causing this or if there is a solution Thanks in advance

I've been wanting to switch from Windows 11 for many different reasons, and I mainly use my desktop for gaming (things like Elden Ring, Skyrim, and Baldurs Gate 3) and media use (YouTube and such). From the Google group I've done, it seems like Pop OS looks good for gaming performance and such, but I wanted to get more input on what distros require the least amount of config modifications and other things in order to be able to play games on it as well as simply which ones are good for casual noob-friendly use since I don't have much experience with Linux things.
