The Huge Potential of Linux Gaming and Gaming Preservation
So I've been playing games on Steam for over the past year and holy damn, I'm so impressed. But it's got me thinking. Linux not only has the potential for modern mainstream gaming but also as a way to save games from becoming lost media.
Just recently I discovered that someone made a port for 3D Pinball: Space Cadet (an old Windows game from the Windows 95 days) as a Flatpak so that this game can continue to be played for future generaitons.
Why stop at Steam? I'd think it be cool to see more projects come around to preserve old abandonware games (kinda like the Ruffle project that is meant to preserve Flash games in order for them to not become lost media).
Happy to say I'm glad I'm gaming on Linux and hope to see what more comes out of it.

Hardware Monitoring and logging
Background:
Game: Arma Reforger via Proton GE 10-7, recommended by ProtonDB
OS: Linux Mint 22.2 x86_64
Kernel: 6.14.0-33-generic
DE: Cinnamon 6.4.8
CPU: Intel i5-8400 (6) @ 4.000GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
Memory: 3724MiB / 15908MiB
so basically I am hitting the recommended specs and play a bit below minimum settings and FPS Limiter at 30FPS, still the 1% low seem to dip below 10FPS.
Is there a software that logs as much system sensors as possible so I can fry to figure out where it comes from. I run "MissionCenter" on 2nd Monitor, CPU GPU RAM seem loaded, yet not overwhelmed. It's a riddle and I want to come to a conclusion if I can fix it or has to replace entirely, before Black Friday comes :)

🚀 Proposal: Bazzite could pioneer a “Trusted Linux Gaming OS” with image attestation
I’ve been thinking a lot about where immutable distros like Bazzite could take Linux gaming. One of the biggest blockers for Linux/Proton is still kernel-level anti-cheat (Valorant, Fortnite, etc). These rely on invasive kernel drivers that don’t work on Linux.
But here’s the thing:
- Bazzite is already immutable and image-based (Fedora Atomic under the hood).
- This means the OS root can be cryptographically signed and verified.
- In theory, that opens the door to a new approach: system attestation.
👉 Instead of anti-cheats needing to install kernel modules, they could just verify:
- “Yes, this machine is running a clean, official Bazzite image.”
- Attestation could be done with signed OS images + TPM/Secure Boot.
- Apps (like games) could even query a simple API to confirm the OS state.
- Unlocks anti-cheat: No kernel drivers needed if the OS itself can prove integrity.
- Better debugging: Every Bazzite image has a known hash → devs and users can reproduce bugs exactly.
- Competitive edge: This is something Windows doesn’t really do yet — it could make Linux more attractive as a trusted gaming platform.
I think Bazzite is in a unique position to pioneer this. SteamOS has similar foundations, but Valve hasn’t gone all the way with attestation. If Bazzite leads here, it could change the conversation about Linux + competitive gaming.
Curious: would you support this direction? Do you think anti-cheat vendors would?

DualSense controller missing inputs in Silksong
Fellow Linux gamers,
I have recently run into a strange problem with DualSense controller and Silksong. I have been playing Silksong for the past four weeks (since release, essentially) on Debian Bookworm using a DualSense controller in its wireless (bluetooth) mode. I've played for a total of 20 hours and have not run into any issues.
Since Bookworm is oldstable, I recently updated to Debian Trixie, i.e. current stable release. Since then, I started experiencing a problem in Silksong, where the game frequently misses some of the controller inputs. Here is a demonstration, where I first move right, and then switch to moving left. The game ignores direction change, despite left button clearly being pressed on the controller.
I have done some debugging and learned the following:
I tested two different DualSense controllers and the problem happens with both. Previously, on Debian Bookworm, both used to work without issues.
The problem disappears if the controller is connected via USB cable. The above suggest that the problem somehow lies with Bluetooth. However:
I played several other games to see whether I can reproduce the problem. This includes Dead Cells (native Linux version), Zero Ranger (run via Wine) and Metal Slug (emulated via FBNeo). No other game exhibits the problem, it's just Silksong.
On top of the above, I tested controller inputs via a dedicated application which reports buttons being pressed. No problems there. Even more, if I Alt-Tab out of Silksong when it ignores the input (like at the end of video clip above), the mentioned application reports the ignored button as being currently pressed.
At this point I have no clue as to why this is happening. The controller clearly works, and yet for some reason Silksong has problems recognising inputs. Has anyone run into the same problem and knows a solution?

Moving to Linux. Choosing Distro for my Hardware. Need advice
Hi guys,
Pretty much a Windows user my whole life, but not liking anything after Windows 7, I was looking at giving Linux a try, both for gaming and everyday use, but I'm not sure what distro would be best for my hardware.
Based on web-searches, I was leaning towards 'Mint', it's a distro whos name pops up often when I watch videos on it & websearch, but thought I'd ask the pros first just incase,
Specs
Intel 2600k CPU
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD5 (Socket 1155)
RAM 16GB DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 4gb
DELL S2721DGF Monitor
KINGSTON SHFS37A120G 120GB SSD (primary drive)
Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB (games drive)
+ other mixed mechanical drives for storage
I have briefly read that Nvidia drivers are a mixed bag on Linux & can be an issue to get working right. Is that still the case?
Thanks in advance, :)

Ping spikes after opening steam games on arch hyprland
Laptop: Ideapad gaming 3 15arh7 Wifi card: rtl8852be
Hi, i just moved to hyprland from kde and its an amazing experience until i plays steam games (especially cs2 since ping is important)
I've faced this ping spikes problem on kde as well but fixed it by using wpa + networkmanager (nm) + added rtw89.conf and turn off some power saving mode + turn off power management in iwconfig
Now i'm on hyprland i get this problem again but applying those fixes don't seems to make it work, in fact using wpa is worse than iwd now (reversed on kde)
I also have noticed that the ping is actually quite stable without any steam games opening (pinged around 240 times without spikes) and when i open a steam games (tested in cs2 and goose goose duck) ping started to jump after around 40-70 seconds and its not fixed even after i close the game (works again after restarting nm)
Things i've tried: switching from iwd backend to wpa backend on nm, added rtw89.conf and add some options (you can ask me if you want specific), turning off iwconfig power management, locked bssid, disable mac randomization

Is 5070ti support still lacking? I'm getting ~10fps.
I'm fairly new to Linux so forgive me if I don't know what I'm talking about.
I (finally) upgraded and got a 5070ti recently and have not been able to get it to work properly in any games.
Using dkms-open (580.82.09) drivers as the proprietary drivers don't work at all. They would give me a single monitor @ 640x480 and the system doesn't see the card. After installing the open drivers, desktop and everything works fine, the card is recognized, however I still get terrible performance in games. 8-10fps in Cyberpunk, 13fps at the menu in PoE 2, etc.
glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer" showed llvmpipe, which ChatGPT said means it's not using the GPU at all for OpenGL. It's suggestion was to then isntall the propietary drivers (which I tried again), but as I said, those don't seem to work whatsoever.
Would love some help! I'm currently dual booting Windows just for games, but have been loving hyprland so much I don't want to leave!

Doing my part 🫡
Proton-GE 10-16 & 10-17 doesn´t let me enable FSR 4
After updating Proton-GE from 10-15 to 10-17, all the games (in Heroic Games Launcher) where i could enable FSR 4 natively stopped letting me enable the FSR 4 option even with the "PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1" command, it also affects Optiscaler so in all games where i could enable FSR 4 just let me select FSR 3.
Does anyone know how can i fix this? Am i doing something wrong? Did the command to enable FSR 4 changed?
BTW: I'm using an RX 9060 XT, my hardware is fully capable to use FSR 4

What are the main downsides of the BC-250 board?
Hello, I am planning on buying a BC-250 board to use as my main PC for programming and gaming.
But it got me thinking about its main downsides, which I counted so far:
- Graphics drivers only on Linux (actually an upside for me)
- Will need custom DIY cooling
- M.2 slot is slow (Gen 2, 2x PCI, I think?)
- There's the BIOS update situation, but it seems that it can be solved with a USB stick now
- DIY case
All of the above is well known, and for me it's ok (for the price)
But what actually got me thinking is about software support and hardware reliability. How likely is it for the board to just randomly die? It seems to be a rather common issue with hardware used for mining (RX 580, Xeons, etc). And it seems that a whole lot of Linux distros don't even boot. So I'm afraid that I'll be locked on a specific distro or a specific kernel version fearing any updates, etc.
Does my fear (especially about software) make sense? And other than that, could you think of any more downsides to the board?

Nvidia GPU on Linux ?
Hi,
I was using Linux maybe one year ago (Linux Mint) but I still had my AMD GPU. Since, I switched to an Nvidia one and I would like to know how its working on Linux before to switch. AMD GPU was good with internal kernel drivers so I didn't had to do anything apart of updating my system.
Should I switch back with my Nvidia GPU ? And what is the difference going to be compared to my old AMD GPU ?
Thanks
