RTX 50-series drivers in Ubuntu?
I am trying to make my new RTX 50-series GPU to work under Ubuntu. Currently I am stuck at 1280x800 on my 4k display (Dell U2723QE). And the display is not detected correctly (while being connected using DisplayPort) $ cat /sys/class/drm/card0-Unknown-1/modes 1280x800
What I did so far:
- Upgraded to Plucky (25.04) since it had nvidia-drivers-570 $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Plucky Puffin (development branch) Release: 25.04
Followed the guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1d1mcrm/i_made_a_guide_to_help_you_install_manage_the/ (made by u/Fluffy_Wafer_9212). And installed nvidia-drivers-570 (version 570.133.07, also the same as the latest available from the NVIDIA web site) $ apt policy nvidia-driver-570 nvidia-driver-570: Installed: 570.133.07-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 570.133.07-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 570.133.07-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu plucky/restricted amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Identified that the driver is used for the device: ``` $ lspci -v ... 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GB202 [GeForce RTX 5090] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device 4171 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 116, IOMMU group 12 Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64M] Memory at 1800000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32G] Memory at 1410000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M] I/O ports at f000 [size=128] Expansion ROM at f4000000 [disabled] [size=512K] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3 Capabilities: [48] MSI: Enable- Count=1/16 Maskable+ 64bit+ Capabilities: [60] Express Legacy Endpoint, IntMsgNum 0 Capabilities: [9c] Vendor Specific Information: Len=14 <?> Capabilities: [b0] MSI-X: Enable- Count=9 Masked- Capabilities: [100] Secondary PCI Express Capabilities: [12c] Latency Tolerance Reporting Capabilities: [134] Physical Resizable BAR Capabilities: [140] Virtual Resizable BAR Capabilities: [14c] Data Link Feature <?> Capabilities: [158] Physical Layer 16.0 GT/s <?> Capabilities: [188] Physical Layer 32.0 GT/s <?> Capabilities: [1b8] Advanced Error Reporting Capabilities: [200] Lane Margining at the Receiver Capabilities: [248] Alternative Routing-ID Interpretation (ARI) Capabilities: [250] Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) Capabilities: [290] L1 PM Substates Capabilities: [2a4] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0001 Rev=1 Len=014 <?> Capabilities: [2bc] Power Budgeting <?> Capabilities: [2f4] Device Serial Number f1-b1-91-ed-bc-2d-b0-48 Kernel driver in use: nvidia Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

Linux VR Works!
Its worked for a while, but i mean like no hickups! Im using a quest 3 with Envision and WiVRn, and it all just worked immediately out of the box.
VrChat stuttering is fixed, no random fps drops, no crashing, space drag is integrated and plugin support too. I am shocked at how much better it is than steamVR with ALVR in my experience, which took hours of troubleshooting and such!
Lmk how your experience has been with it, and if it goes so smooth for everyone :)

Some freezes and stutter, slow experience : help !
Hey !
I have freshly installed CachyOS on my battlestation to start gaming on Linux. I had already installed it on an old laptop to get used to KDE plasma etc... everything good so far !
However, i have some weird slow moments and quick freezes that should happen during basic office task (open settings, open steam, transfer files etc...). I didnt try gaming so far. It's also a bit slow to boot, even if it got better after some reboots.
I have installed on a freshly installed Curcial P310 SSD 2To fully dedicated to Linux. I have installed gaming packages, new drivers etc...
My specs are :
- CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
- GPU : AMD Radeon RX 9070
- MB : MSI B650 Tomahawk
- RAM : Corsair Vengeance 32Gb DDR5
Also, it seems a bit slow to download and/or install games (Maybe its my impression, its not a wifi issue as i have 200Mb/s download on Win10). Maybe i missed some crucial tweaks or drivers ? Thanks a lot for your help :)

Disco Elysium launches fine, but TAB / RMB object highlight (outline) doesn’t work – post-processing issue?
Hi everyone!
I’ve seen several people struggling to run Disco Elysium on older Linux hardware — but my case is a bit different. I actually managed to get the game running, though I’m facing a weird issue related to highlighting interactive objects.
In Disco Elysium, when you press TAB or right mouse button, the game normally highlights interactable objects (e.g., outlines them). But on my setup, nothing gets highlighted.
I’ve learned that this effect is likely part of post-processing / outline rendering — which seems to be broken or disabled for me.
I found a file:
Settings.json at:
SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/632470/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/SUN Studio/Disco Elysium/Settings/
There’s a line:
"highlightToggle": false
Changing it to true doesn't help — it resets to false every time the game starts.
Now the game only launches if I run:
MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=crocus steam steam://rungameid/632470 (Previously, it worked even with i965, but now that fails) with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% in steam, but post-processing didn’t work.
My system info:
OS: Manjaro Linux (64-bit)
Kernel: 6.12.19-1-MANJARO
CPU: Intel Core i3-3110M @ 2.40GHz
GPU: Intel HD 4000 (IVB GT2)
GPU Driver: Mesa 25.0.1-arch1.2
RAM: 8 GB
Proton Version: UMU Proton, tried GE
Any help would be super appreciated — I’ve come this far and would love to fix this last piece. Thank you in advance! :3

How often do we need to change the priority of gamescope?
No CAP_SYS_NICE, falling back to regular-priority compute and threads.
Performance will be affected.
It appears too frequently, I always need to do:
sudo setcap 'CAP_SYS_NICE=eip' $(which gamescope)
It is really annoying!

Questions about bazzite and an HTPC setup
I just moved into a new (to me) home and am planning on turning the downstairs basement into a theater room. I’m in the middle of research now, and I came across YouTube videos about bazzite and its ability to run steam, old school emulators, and streaming apps. To me that sounds like a simple solution to run everything from one device instead of buying multiple things to switch between. I’ve never ran a Linux OS before and was wondering your experience with it. Also, will the streaming apps be compatible with an Atmos receiver from a pc? Thanks for any input!!

Does Street Fighter 6 on linux support crossplay?
My question is pretty much the title, IIRC tekken 8 had some issues with crossplay until you edited the /etc/hosts file and was wondering if there were any issues with crossplay on SF6 since I'm thinking about buying it.
