Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered (GOG) not capturing mouse (Fedora)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 09:59

I'm trying to play the Tomb Raider 1-3 remastered trilogy. I'm launching the GOG version through Heroic Launcher using Wine-GE 8-26 (I also tried 8-20,15,5). The game won't capture my mouse. I've seen suggestions to use "Virtual desktop" through winecfg, but that didn't work. I also checked the option on the same page for capturing the mouse in a full screen game. I'm using gamescope through Heroic launcher as well and it doesn't help. I tried passing custom arguments:

-w 3840 -h 2160 -W 3840 -H 2160 -f --

That didn't help either. The keyboard works, a controller works, but the mouse is just in the background behind the game, and it just moves to my other monitor. I've also tried turning off my other monitor.

I'm using an Nvidia gpu. Is this a Fedora, Gnome, or Nvidia problem? Any advice or ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Ready or Not performance questions?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 09:33

Any clue why the game seems to be so... spotty? Is it a UE5 thing? I'm running a 5900x, 64GB of 3200mhz RAM and a 7800xt so I should have *zero* problem getting this to a locked 144hz. Is it just normal for it to run kinda shitty?

Any possible tweaks? On Artix w/dinit (if it really matters)

Final Fantasy 14 is super laggy in Ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 08:51

Hi, I'm new to Linux and I have only had a few problems since switching to Linux about a week ago, one of those problems is playing Final Fantasy 14.

On Windows I got a fairly steady ping of 180ms (not great because of my location, but that's what NoClippy is for), on Linux the lowest ping I get is about 210ms, with pretty constant spikes of up to almost 700ms which rounds out to an average ping of a little over 500ms during active gameplay. My ping also seems to spike up whenever I move or do an action, which is really strange. If the ping was constant I wouldn't mind too much, but its so freaking choppy I feel like I'm constantly on the edge of a disconnect.

Using the ping command in the terminal to ping the game servers directly, I get the expected 180ms average with little fluctuation.

Specs:

Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
ASRock X670E PG Lightning
32GB RAM
Radeon RX 7900 XT
Yes, I am playing the game through an Ethernet cable
(let me know If I need to add something else here)

I am using the Flatpak XIVLauncher, and I own the game outside of Steam. I have verified the files in the launcher, redownloaded the game from scratch in the launcher, and did it again with a fresh install of the launcher. No dice. The Game runs perfectly fine, its just the lag.

Any and all advice is welcome, particularly if it seems obvious.

Any old heads here that remember urban terror (or assault cube)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 08:36

I was sitting at work the other day on our very outdated win-8 all in one, lamenting the performance that dwarf fortress and TES2 daggerfall unity were affording me, when I suddenly remembered a few gems that used to mull me over in the past. I downloaded both to find that they ran quite well, and of course was hit with a wave of nostalgia. I was never into cs_surf type stuff, but was immediately zooming around in UT and feeling like a kid again. Obviously with proton and native Linux compatibility increasing we have come a long way, but I'm curious how many of yall remember these absolute godsends, when linux compatibility was an afterthought.

Steam Big Picture Mode VS Gaming Mode

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 07:39

I'm trying to build a mini ITX pc to have it under my tv with Bazzite. I encounter the issue that the amd gpu I picked won't fit my case, it turns out my best choice I have is an nvidia 4060 low profile and I know nvidia has issues with Game Mode in Linux, in case that I go this route, what would be the difference between Game Mode and SBP in this use case? Also, is there any hope that Nvidia would fix this in the future? Meaning that is a matter of time or is it something that actually might not happen?

Any fix for CS2's absolutely terrible framerate?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 06:00

I, like many others here, love Counter Strike, and I love Linux. But CS2's native Linux port is, to put it bluntly trash.

I first looked up if I should just run the windows version through proton, but unfortunately it was said to be a "VAC disaster". So what is the best possible way to play CS2 on Linux? Any fixes? Launch options?

Satisfactory keeps on crashing/kernal panic

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 05:27

So with 1.0 being released this morning (hurray!) I have done a fresh download of the game and it basically kept on crashing on me while i was trying to stream.

I have used the following;

No compatibilty, Proton experimental, GE-proton9-13 and UMU-Proton-9.0-2.

All of it just basically caused my computer to hard freeze, audio still playing then sometimes it would cause a _ (kernal crash) and the other method of crash is everything slowly vanishes, my enviroment goes black backround then i gotta hard power down (i hate doing this) and restarting my computer...

Computer specs:
CPU: R7 5700X3D
GPU: 6700XT
32gb of ram and 32gb swap (for shits and giggles, gonna be upgrading to 64gb raw)

EndevourOS, KDE plasma 6.1.4, x11 platform, kernal 6.10.9-arch1-1

i would provide logs, just not sure which ones to grab. I'll happily provide those.

anything else just let me know :)

please help with steam on ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 03:22

I am using ubuntu 24.04.1. I installed steam from the app store and it wont open. I tried to uninstall it with the app store and it gets stuck on the uninstalling loading symbol and does not get uninstalled. I looked at the post guide for this subredit and tried ending steam in system monitor and running it from terminal. That is the only thing from the guide that I knew how to do and it did not work. I have no idea what other information to give or how to troubleshoot this. Really new to linux and it has not been a great first impression but i want to stick with it. I will be gaming on windows until this issue is resolved.

Heavy lag problems with Fedora KDE Plasma caused by constant disk reads/writes every 7 to 10 seconds while gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 02:22

I've been using Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop ever since I switched from Windows 10 in favor of Linux nearly a full year ago, and ever since then. I've been quite impressed at the sheer number of games within my Steam library being completely playable with little to no tweaks whatsoever. Even more impressive was the slight performance increase in not just the Steam games I normally do play, but non-Steam games as well. I even left numerous comments to numerous posts within this Subreddit reflecting this.

However, lately I've been noticing that, whenever I go play both Steam and non-Steam games alike, games such as Star Trek Online and Genshin Impact, games that once was lag-free, heavy lag spikes now occur by disk reads and/or disk writes once every 7 to 10 seconds. At this point, I suspect Fedora's installed Linux Kernel.

Not even system updates seem to be a viable fix for this rather annoying issue I'm currently having.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem, and how can I possibly fix this other than reverting back to a previous Linux Kernel version??

Also, I've been looking into Solus as an alternative to Fedora to game on. If I do distro hop from Fedora to Solus, how much of a performance gain will there be compared to Fedora while gaming?

My laptop's hardware info is as follows:

  • Operating System: Fedora Linux 40
  • KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4
  • KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0
  • Qt Version: 6.7.2
  • Kernel Version: 6.10.7-200.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
  • Graphics Platform: Wayland
  • Swap Partition size: 16 GiB

Hardware info is as follows:

  • Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i3-7100U CPU @ 2.40GHz
  • Memory: 15.4 GiB of RAM
  • Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 620

Steam version: 1721173382

Preferred Proton version: Proton-8.0-2

Preferred WINE version: wine-ge-8-26-x86_64
