Looking for the right distro for an nvidia/intel laptop with a 4070 max-q
Hello,
First of all my English is not the best sorry (I speak French mainly)
I bought a Lenovo legion 7i with a intel/nvidia 4070 max-q and I tried a lot of distro in the last weeks. The problem is frame rate are really inconsistent. In fedora the nvidia x server in powermizer is alway messed up I cannot have fixed performance level (I made the laptop use the GPU always in the bios). In unbuntu I can set to level 3 but cannot force to use level 4. My max tgp is 140w but I cannot exceed 100w of power draw when I game. In game like Diablo 4 (don't judge me lol) I have high fps like 100 and drop to 40 with hiccups for no reason) on windows everything work perfect no lag the laptop draw the max wattage. I really want to stay away from windows and I could get some advice. I tried fedora, ubuntu, popOS (the worst in my test) and cachyos (for some reason cachyos hate my external monitor). I need advice for the desktop environment too should I use gnome or kde with nvidia ? Thank you !

Minecraft Bedrock
Hello! Has anyone managed to install the new Minecraft Launcher or Bedrock on Linux yet?
I'm aware of the Bedrock Launcher that uses the Android Pocket Edition Version to allow playing Minecraft on Linux, but I'd rather not buy the game again on Android just to play it on Linux.
Has anyone managed to get a WineTrick or anything going to get actual, proper, PC Bedrock Edition running on Linux?

ReShade or ENB for Grand Theft Auto V Legacy (GTA 5)?
When I try and use ENB with GTA, I get to the siren loading screen followed by a CTD. Tried some suggestions I found online but no luck unfortunately.
I've also attempted to use ReShade, but nothing happens. I installed it from that one GitHub Linux ReShade installer, but any time I load my game nothing seems to happen. Can't pull up the on screen display or anything.
Have any of you guys had any luck getting it to work on GTA V for Linux? I'm using Pop!_OS and have the Steam version of the game.

Price aside, and only for the sake of performance would it be better to purchase old school retro titles available through steam or is emulation on Linux better?
Hey all,
So this question came up while I was playing a bit of the original Final Fantasy on Steam. Price aside (since I usually get these kind of games when they're on sale for like a dollar or two) do these games tend to run better on Steam or would they run better if emulated on Linux? Or is it more of a case by case basis? If so are there any resources available that compare how the games run via Steam or an emulator?
I'm interested in building a library (not sure how large yet) of older games I played as a kid or games I never got a chance to play since my parents didn't have much money when I was little so I'd only get maybe a game or two a year out of like the hundreds I wanted lol
I plan on emulating on desktop linux (Arch) and also my Steam Deck likely both via EmuDeck and I do dual boot with Windows so might consider having a copy of the library there as well

Nobara or Bazzite?
I've been using linux mint for a while and I didn't like that my laptop's ssd was split into 2 for some reason in which the other 100 became a removable drive for some reason and gaming was a hit or miss with some tinkering involved and I wanted to know which of the two is better for gaming?

cachyos, bottles, GTX 3060 and HDR issues
I'm going to try and explain my issue best I can. I can provide any extra information or logs that may help find out why I can't get HDR working.
Basically seeking help from people with a similar stack to what I have listed in the title.
I'm running cachyos and tend to install games using bottles, I am not using Steam. I have no issue running most games and I'm confident in what's required to get things running on Linux in general.
The issue is that I cannot get any games to recognise my HDR display and therefore toggle HDR on.
HDR is toggled on in gnome 48 display settings and looks great.
I have tried launching games using both gamescope and gamescope-git which I installed from the cachyos repo. I have also tried using gamescope via flatpak. I've tried bottles and heroic launcher.
HDR works fine in windows so feel like I can probably rule out my display and AVR as the problem.
I'm at the point where I'm starting to think HDR/gamescope is broken or I just need to wait a few months for gamescope/driver fixes.
Info below (sorry about the formatting)

Discouraging NTFS on linux... what's the problem?
Personally, i have been running a ntfs sata ssd as my games storage for almost 3 years now, and i have never had any issue.
Steam finds the library both on windows and linux, i am able to install a game on linux, play it, then reboot into windows and play it there without reinstalling anything (even if i rarely do it).
I recently saw a thread about how you should not do this, but nobody was able to tell me why...
What am i risking?

Razer Naga Trinity: side buttons don't produce any output
Hello,
I recently tried to switch over to arch from windows and I would love to use my razer mouse. I own the wired version with swappable side plates. However the side buttons, in the 12 panel setup, apart from the 1 and 2 which register "back" and "forward", do not register any output at all.
I tried looking around for a solution but couldn't find any that worked.
Has anyone experienced the same? How did you solve the issue?
Thank you for your time

In the past month I started having lag issues, that are apparently GPU-related, despite everything running normally on windows 10.
cpu amd ryzen 7 2700x
memory 16gb
gpu nvidia geforce gtx 980
for the past 3 years I've used this same hardware and ran: POP!_OS 22.04 with cinnamon version 5.2.7. I would always run well games that are not so light, including even Helldivers 2, probably the heaviest.
However, in the past month, while developing a fairly simple game on unity, I started to experience increasingly frequent lag spikes when using that program as well as with 3d games.
Those episodes include mouse pointer being laggy, sometimes the screen going black for 2-3 seconds, the audio (whether from the program or from a youtube video in the background) going mute also for 2-3 seconds and then coming back.
On Unity, I took some people's suggestion and tried running a profiler, which would always show the problem was of the "others" category, which doesn't really help. the standalone version of the game was also a bit laggy on linux
from time to time I would reboot on windows 10 and test things, and everything would always run fairly smoothly, including the standalone windows version of the game.
Then someone suggested me installing Mint, which I did, reinstalled the drivers and all and while the performance seem to be better, the problem still persists.
Just by browsing on steam I experience some lag on the mouse pointer. Same with Unity.
Before moving to mint, htop would show huge spikes on the CPU cores, some of them reaching 100%. I haven't tested it again since.
I tried changing the nvidia drivers. Tried 550, 535, 470, but the problem doesn't go away.
I tried updating Unity.
any insights?

Dualsense Controller Input Latency Over Bluetooth
OS: Fedora 41
DE: KDE
Kernel Version: 6.13.9
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600
Motherboard: Asus TUF X570-Plus Wifi
GPU: Nvidia 3060 Ti (Driver Ver. - 570.133)
I did not have this issue before but probably about 2-3 months ago I began to think my Dualsense controller had stick drift again. Only to realize one day when I used it wired that everything was fine.
Over bluetooth it's almost like inputs get stacked sometimes so 3 small shifts to the left turns into a big swooping turn that I can't pull out of. Hence it made me think it was stick drift.
Other times there is just a huge delay between when I press a button and it registers. Recently using a Windows system I update the controllers firmware with Sony's program. However, that did not solve the issue. Currently I just use the controller wired, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this may be happening.
