Hello I don’t have A clue what Linux is lol I subscribe to this forum to try to get Linux on oculus quest because some guys had windows XP working on Quest but he said something about being possible on with Linux

Enough about that but since I’m subscribed here I see many post like - Games running on Linux is Awesome- some gaming companies won’t allow linux user to play their game- some games Anti cheat always detect linux

My question is why Linux is Great as A whole? Why some developers wont allow linux user to game? Why Anti cheat automatically book Linux users?

Howdy there my fellow freedom fighters and Helldivers. I started my fight for democracy on a windows computer, but I have swapped to linux for quality of life (supposedly lmao) and am having issues running Helldivers 2. My issue is this:

I click play to start the game, and it launches like I'm used to on windows. I get the INCA, nProtect GameGuard splash thing that's the size of a credit card. Then I see the loading bar appear in the top left corner of my screen (though I don't see it fill with the blue progress blocks). My screen goes black for a split second as if it starts the game, but then it closes and the STOP button changes to PLAY again.

I have been on linux for about 3 weeks now, but I haven't tried running Helldivers until today. I was a bit burned out, but the new update excited me, so I came back for it.

I have enabled Steam-Play for both supported and non-supported titles. I have also tried disabling the "other games" option. I downloaded "Protonup-Qt" as directed by a few guides I've seen. I have tried booting HD2 with the following "Compatibility tools":

• Proton versions 3.16-9.02

• Proton Experimental

• Proton Hot-fix

• Various versions of GE-Proton

• Various versions of TKG-Proton-Experimental

I am running on the latest release of openSUSE, using the KDE Plasma desktop environment. My hardware is:

• Rx 6800xt GPU

• R7 5800x CPU

• 32gb 3200mhz DDR5 RAM

I tried the game with it installed on my game drive which is mounted under `/mnt/games/` and I also tried it under my `/home` drive.

I don't have any game crash reports under `/home/USERNAME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/553850/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Arrowhead/Helldivers2/crash_data` to go off of either, so I'm just kinda flying blind right now. Any help is appreciated. I know it goes without saying in an ideal world, but I have of course turned my PC off and on again lol. I do not have this issue with any other game. It's probably the anti-cheat but HD2 works on linux, so I don't understand whats up.

Hi everyone, since most users here are strongly against kernel level anti cheat for privacy, can you explain what exactly can do that a user level app can't? Things like discord feels like they can basically gather every information they need, even the list of every running process!

I have tried Arch, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE, NixOS (basically everything) and I have been unable get my Dell gaming laptop with a Nvidia 3050 and Intel integrated graphics to work on Wayland. I have had issues with sleep & suspend, screen tearing, and the HDMI output not working. My monitor setup is 2 monitors connected via a single USB-C display port splitter and an HDMI output. I love Linux but the graphics issues are killing me. If anyone has had any success with tis kind of setup or have any tips please respond. Thanks!

Seeing the whole GTA V debacle, I'd like to share a bit of my unique point of view as a video creator for the brazilian community, mostly guides on the Linux side of my content.

R* decision is from the business point of view understandable. Yeah, it's not like Linux's market share is insignificant anymore, after all, Mac got more attention at that point in that regard, the problem is a lack of standards.

There is only one Windows. There is only one MacOS. Yet, there are countless Linux distros splitting apart that slice of the market share into tiny pieces, and this is way bigger a problem than most are willing to admit, for two key reasons:

• Makes the jump to Linux more confusing for possible new users, since they don't know which distro to go to, and honestly influencers don't do a great job on that by recommending wildly different distros all the time, most of them with very outdated features; and
• Makes it more difficult to develop software for Linux, since you can't be sure it will work properly in every distro - while flatpak is a good idea, it still has many kinks to iron out - resulting in the focusing of a single or limited group of distros like DaVinci Resolve does towards Rocky at best, or in no support at all at worst.

I'm a Linux enthusiast. If anything, I hate Windows UI. Yet, I can't get rid of it because it just runs all my software without problems. Yeah, I could probably troubleshoot and sort out most of it given some time, but that would be missing the point that 90% of people will never be willing to do that or even know how to do that in the first place, so for them, Linux ends up known as 'that weird system that nothing works on'.

It came a long way from the early days, and I commend the efforts of all the open source community for that. But there's still a lot to do, and some of those things that need doing will be very controversial, if Linux is to ever become mainstream. Either that, or Windows will reign absolute for god knows how long.

From developers to the end user, it shows how dependent this industry is on Windows and its tools. Unfortunately, this is something really hard to change.

Valve, Codeweavers, and the community have provided a simple way to "port" games to Linux with Proton, without the difficulty and cost of a full port, and even released a handheld video game for it. Developers just need to ensure that their games work on Linux. Yet, there's still no effort to make it happen.

I know it's a market thing, if Linux had more users, this would definitely happen. But it is still sad to think that Windows has become such a cultural juggernaut, and even though Linux is amazing as a gaming platform nowadays, end users and developers still don't give it a chance.

Hi all I just installed wow on mynlinix machine have done it before through lutris and never had any issues. However now on load up I'm getting a weird visual glitch? I'm using arch with Nvidia drivers any help would be appreciated

I'm not a lawyer so I'm really just throwing the idea out there.

I've been thinking lately about how Windows is basically a direct competitor to Linux within the handheld gaming space and that it would be in their best interest to enter into exclusivity agreements with some of the larger game publishers.

If you look at this from Microsoft's perspective there is currently an incentive structure in place for game developers to utilize anti-cheat software that require direct access to the Windows kernel since it ensures that the game will not run on a competitors device.

Maybe this is a stupid idea though given how exclusivity is nothing new to the gaming community (console exclusives, etc.)

Anyway, what do you guys think?

If there are any lawyers in this sub who would care to offer their perspective then that would obviously be ideal since most of us are going to uninformed on the subject.

It's clear that Valve is one of the biggest supporters of linux gaming. But it still seems a bit suprising that the newest game which is unfinished even for windows is getting linux community infrastructure so fast. I checked some other providers but most of them seemed to be running some windows hosting control panels, here I can definitely recognize that this guys are using a control panel which is specialized on launching only linux gameservers. Also you can see wine related console output. I think this is great.

So I am getting this whenever I try to load into helldivers. This started with the most recent update, and my usual fix to the problem of reloading the graphics from the settings no longer works. Any way to fix this? My game is next to unplayable in this state. I am using Arch as my distro.

So Rockstar has created a FAQ page about the Battle Eye anti cheat they've implemented in GTA5, and they said

<Is BattlEye compatible with Steam Deck?

Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online.>

That is literally a lie, as I'm able to play XDEFIANT perfectly fine on Linux, and that game shares the same anti cheat they've put in GTA5 (BattleEye), so it's not the Steam Deck that doesen't support BattleEye, it's literally them not enabling BattleEye support for Linux.

I don't know why they're lying or what they want to accomplish by doing that, but this situation keeps getting crazier lol

Hi all, so I recently bought a new setup to game on Linux, and while it's mostly been a really pleasant experience, I am experiencing a particularly nasty crash on a couple of games that use VKD3D, namely the games will either lock up and eventually kick me back to my login screen, or worse still, will cause my GPU to crash, followed by a kernel panic and reset.

After a bit of googling and logical deduction, it looks like it's specifically games in which raytracing is enabled that are causing this. And while the solution in most of these cases is just to turn raytracing off in the menu, I note that there are a few games where doing so isn't possible - namely Star Wars: Outlaws (seemingly enables a software fallback mode only when a non hardware RT-capable GPU is used) and some UE5 titles like Black Myth: Wukong that don't have explicit toggles for hardware or software Lumen.

Hence, it would be really handy to know if VKD3D has an environment variable or other toggle I could use to just disable RT outright as a fallback. Would be grateful for any advice on the matter.

Hello all. It's been an age since I thought about building a PC but I'm thinking about building one now. I'm running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed-Slowroll on my Dell G5000 with an RTX 2070 GPU but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and has trouble pushing my 49" Samsung monitor with games. This is the build I came up with. I haven't ordered anything yet though so I'm open to suggestions. I might go ahead and get 64GB of RAM from the get go as well.

I bought a custom built for $700 and decided to take the plunge into Linux. Installed Mint and then installed games like Pizza Tower, Dying Light, Elden Ring, EU4, and Dead By Daylight.

However.....it aint lookin too good, EU4's 5 Speed is 6 secs to a month tick at 1444, Dying Light's frequent FPS slowdowns are annoying, and Elden Ring has only okish frames but also gets slowdowns. Havent tried DBD yet and Pizza Tower runs fine.

I did do stuff like turn off Vsync both ingame and via the Nvidia program, and I updated drivers

Specs:

CPU: Intel I7 9800X 8 Core, 3.8ghz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 2070

Memory: 32 Gigs

Distro: Mint 22 Cinnamon
