Need a gpu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 08:34

Well... I want to buy a GPU for my old PC but the problem is that the one I was planning to buy is no longer in stock (AMD RX6400LP). Looking at other alternatives I only have the Nvidia RTX A400 but I do not know if it works well in Linux (Fedora KDE).

I want to clarify that my PC is only used for office and multimedia, also it doesn't have Resizable Bar.

Playnite alternative for Mint Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 08:24

Been thinking about trying out linux for a bit but didnt want to try and learn a whole new os. So I heard Mint was a great starting point to get you invested in the world.

On windows I would use Playnite and I like it specifically because it allows me to put specific games on it even if I dont have them downloaded on something like Epic games launcher or steam (bc Im a filthy pirate). Seems like it wont work on mint so was hoping yall knew one that works on mint!

Kernels on Mint

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 08:11

Hi everybody! I'm new to Linux (installed mint 22.1 a few days ago) I'm trying to get accustomed to this new style of OS and I have some doubts when it comes to gaming. I've been hearing a lot about custom kernels (or something like that) and I'm not sure if having one is mandatory or if it's just something optional for better performance. For reference, I have a Nvidia RTX 4060 and a AMD Ryzen 5500, I ussually don't play very demanding games but I still wanted to know if it is worth it to upgrade my Kernel.

Importing Minecraft Bedrock Worlds [Mint]

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 07:46

Hey everyone, got a question,

Since I'm on my new Linux PC, I had to put all my Minecraft Bedrock worlds from my old computer onto a Google Drive so I could import them over.

Now that I've got Bedrock on Linux Mint, how can I import my worlds over?

Thanks.

Forza Horizon 4 won't go fullscreen.(FEDORA KDE)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 07:16

Hey, I have this issue where when I go fullscreen (ALT + ENTER) in fh4, the screen just goes black and whenever I click, it makes the Fedora fullscreen sound until I take it out of fullscreen again, where it works fine in windowed mode. This issue persisted on Linux mint in the past as well.

I have tried: Rebooting Reinstalling Setting fullscreen in the startup commands (using -full and - fullscreen)

can someone please help 🙏

Extremely slow internet

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 04:33

Hello, I installed Linux bazztie on my PC (Dell OptiPlex 7040 in case it is necessary) For the sole reason that Windows is Garbage for gaming, so I decided to make a change, but I ran into several problems, one of them the internet is very slow, it is so slow that steam has been updated for almost an hour, and when I play a Minecraft server, it is too slow, it doesn't let me do anything and sometimes it leaves the server by itself, I use the same WiFi antenna that I use in Windows, where this did not happen to me, but I reinstalled the system several times and it did not solve it. Does anyone know how it can be fixed? It's really affecting me.

Will I be creating a nuclear disaster trying to port my Win11 setup to linux (opinions pls)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 01:45

tldr: I have a complicated windows gaming setup, using windows sucks, want it on linux, will i be creating a nuclear disaster?

-----------------

Got a Win11 LTSC desktop x64 with a bunch of games installed through a bunch of launchers, emulators, or no launcher. It's a gigantic web. Looking to move to linux, but only if it wouldn't be creating a config black hole trying to get most of it set up and maintainable. Here's a list of what I'd really want to work on a linux setup if I were to move over. Each color is my noob impression of how hard it would be to get working (could be absolutely wrong tho)...

🟨 Majority of my steam library (~120 games): Already went through ProtonDB and looked at most of them and ~90% are gold, plat, or native which is good. There's a few important ones that are borked (Apex, Madden) but I guess its not the biggest problem in the world. For the gold/plat ones, I don't mind tinkering with cmd-line options if they generally work reliably... from ProtonDB people say they do, but in practice, do they?

🟧 Handful of games from other launchers (EA, Ubisoft, Battlestate, Epic, Battle.net, Minecraft): Some of these look like they can work one way or another with Lutris/Wine.GE or HeroicLauncher (Wolfenstein NO, Jedi FO, BF 1, SC2) but the instructions don't give me confidence because they're old like requiring Origin(?), which isn't even the supported EA app anymore. Some of the games are also like, bought in steam and linked to EA and I have no idea how it would work since on Win11 they need to have BOTH steam and EA open? Some are leaning towards screwed like Minecraft which could be played thru something like Prism launcher or a random flatpak which just seems likely to break anytime I want to play w/ friends and need the most current bedrock version... Finally, some are seemingly just totally screwed like Tarkov.

🟩 PS3, Dreamcast, and Gamecube Emulators: Seems like my emulators (RPCS3, ReDream, Dolphin) would "just work" for the most part. I'm a little concerned about moving over my configs from Win->Linux.

🟨 Handful of modded standalone games/installers: I've got some standalone modded games like FarCry 5, GTAIV, BFBC2, Command & Conquer from discs that I just have as exe installers or portable exe installations. I see that most people can get some working through Lutris or Proton (add nonsteam game) but it seems like a lot of work?

🟧 Library of android games: I run Bluestacks (ick, i know) on Win but at least all the games work and I can remap controls really easy to play with mnk or gamepad. On linux looks like Waydroid could do it but customizing the controls with keymapper or similar looks like hell.

🟨 Proprietary programs: Discord, Guilded. Looks easy from forum posts, wikis, etc. but as with anything theres always problems popping up. Like I'm sure discord streaming would just not work or require tons of extra config to get it working.

---------------

Are any of these assessments wrong? Like I'm hoping someone will tell me lutris/heroic would handle all the weird launcher stuff without extra config and all my games like Minecraft, BF1 (steam->EA), SC2 will just work with Proton or just using Bazzite OS or some other neat trick.

Would it be maintainable? I'm ok with putting in some effort troubleshooting if its going to be maintainable and the games would be update-able and playable with friends online, for the most part. But not if the setup is gonna break for 10 games in 6 months and the online features for a launcher break every few weeks. I'm willing to put in some effort if it works for years, but not like a hundred hours every few months to fix broken stuff...

For reference, im not new to linux, but new to linux-gaming: I'm experienced with the terminal (10+ years) and linux tinkering but only familiar with gaming tools like Proton/Lutris/WINE etc. insofar as skimming wikis and megathreads. Idk anything about how difficult it is to make drivers work for games or running exes on linux.

if anyone actually read this far, thanks. sorry for the monster post just having trouble making a decision to take the r/linux_gaming plunge or not

BG3: No music or sound effects upon second and subsequent launches.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 01:24

Title.

I recently installed BG3 again to enjoy patch 8 when the itch struck me. After install I played my first session, everything's fine, no issues. Now though? Every time I start it for some reason the game's music and SFX are muted or missing. AND ONLY THOSE. The menu interact sounds work just fine, and dialogue plays too. Music and SFX though? Gone. SFX meaning environment, ambient, spell, ability, movement and all those sound effects. If it was just music I wouldn't mind too much but without SFX it's grating as hell.

The only "fix" I've been able to find is reinstalling. And since it's a 114 GB I really don't feel like uninstalling then reinstalling every time I wanna play the game. Verifying integrity of game files does nothing. Switching proton versions works only once for any version then the game doesn't start. I need help.

Valve Index display not detected (Fedora 42)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. Mai 2025 - 01:03

I recently moved to Fedora 42 (KDE Wayland), all Nvidia drivers are installed correctly through dnf. Steam games work fine, but when trying to launch SteamVR it doens't detect the headset display. Everything worked on Windows before.

When playing with the DP connections sometimes it will be recognized as a 640x480 display which doesn't support any other modes, xrandr-
