I built an Open Source GeForce Now alternative to play Steam games on Linux in the Cloud
As a Cloud / DevOps engineer, I wanted to play my Steam games without requiring expensive hardware, so I built this Free & Open Source project to play Steam games on Linux in the Cloud: Cloudy Pad 🎮. It's roughly an open source alternative to GeForce Now - it deploys a ready-to-play Linux machine on AWS, Azure, GCP, Paperspace or Scaleway.
GitHub repo: https://github.com/PierreBeucher/cloudypad
Main features:
- Play 30 to 40 hours for less than 20$ (see cost estimations)
- Stop instance automatically when idle to prevent unnecessary costs
- Use Spot instances (up to 70% cheaper instances)
- Use Moonlight with Sunshine or Wolf, specialized video-game streaming servers for ultra-low latency
A self-deployment feature is also in the works to let you turn your own machine into a remote gaming server 🪄
I'd love to hear your feedback ! And of course I'll answer your questions. We're also a growing community on Discord and looking for contributors, we'll happily onboard you if you want to give a hand 🙏

GE-Proton 10-7 out now with fixes for Wine Wayland
wonder if anyone is using it inside a steam-session with wayland (and if this will end in better performance). Should be doable by adding --expose-wayland to gamescope-options of the session.

CO: Expedition 33 problems
I tried to run this game through steam and lutris (i use arch), tried a lot of different launch options etc. The problems are usually just complete freezes after 5-10 mins of playing, but one time it completely "broke" my pc. I have a rx 6750xt and a r7600m, and i use sway (i can provide more info if needed). Does anyone have the same problem/fix? I'll keep trying anyway, since the game is just so good!

Microphone not working on Arma Reforger
Hello, a buddy and I recently installed Pop!_OS and we wanted to play Arma. We found some launch options that seemed to work, which I'll put below here at the end. For him, his microphone works just fine, but for me I'll press the talk/radio buttons and nothing. My microphone works for other steam games, but I know that's probably apples to oranges. The speaker icon will show up and various programs like helvum, pavucontrol, etc all say Arma is listening to my microphone, but nothing comes through.
It's probably a long shot, but is anyone else here running the game and experiencing a similar issue?
My mic is a Rode NT1 connected to a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th gen, using the alsa-scarlett-gui settings on direct. I'm thinking the interface might be the issue, but it works fine for other apps and games.
I'm currently using GE-Proton10-7, but experimental and hotfix both worked too with the same microphone issue.
Launch options are env LD_PRELOAD="" __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 __GL_13ebad=0X1 %command% -noSplash -forceUpdate -maxVRAM=11264 -noborder

Beware Microsoft...
It's great to see Linux gaming (and generally) starting to see a bit of real traction of late, with the variety of 'out-of-the-box' distros available, continued improvements with Wine and Proton and Valve's support with the Steam deck etc, but it's important to be mindful of the reactions this will draw from Microsoft.
We might not be there yet, but they don't want to lose marketshare, even though the corporate space is still heavily MS invested and they maintain ownership of the desktop space with 'AI convenience' and ads.
It's worth keeping a critical eye on things that downplay the successes of Linux, promote issues with particular (and especially popular) Linux distros and spikes in news about Linux performance lacking behind Windows. And also to see what things the algorithms promote vs demote...
Linux lets us play, be curious, learn, experiment and own our environment, for free. Microsoft let us consume, for a price.

Proton won't download: "Disk write error"
Hello everyone, as the title says i couldn't manage to install proton experimental (i couldn't download any version of proton in general) on my system (Linux Mint 22.1 xia). When I tried to download the package from Steam it just seemed to download some files but in the end it always gave me a "Disk write error".
Here's an example of error I receive when trying to launch a game (fallout 4): "Disk write error - /media/myusername/myssd/SteamLibrary/steamapps/downloading/1493710/files/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdav1d.so
If someone is willing to help me I would really appreciate that. Thank you in advice.

Vulkan shaders and switching DE (or display servers)?
Hi!
I wanted to test which games that would boot better on different DE's. I started No man's sky on cosmic (wayland) and it processed vulkan shaders for like 3 seconds. Then I tried on gnome Xorg and it seems to process 1%/minute. So... will switching DE result in this or is there another explanation? (other games have processed really slow on cosmic so I'm not advocating that cosmic is better at this)

Assassin's Creed Odyssey long time to launch shows black box first
Hello everyone,
As the title suggests I've been having this issue for the past few weeks now where I install ubisoft connect trash launcher through (tried heroic, lutris, bottles and non steam game) and it always takes 10-15 minutes to launch while looking at the splash screen. I tried a lot of things like changing a shit ton of distributions, re-installing my Nvidia drivers, proton ge, wine ge etc etc nothing seems to work. Is there any hero here who has managed to fix this issue? Ubisoft support won't be able to help with this since this game is not supported on Linux.
Any hero here that could be able to help me?
