Help! Can't get Rockstar Launcher to start!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 16:52

After I launch Red Dead II from the Steam .deb (Steam Installer version) it shows me this message.

I also tried with custom Protons and stuff like that.

Now it did NOT happen on the Flatpak version, that somehow started to act up today and even after reinstalling several times (and "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade"-ing) it was not able to launch.
So I installed the "Steam Installer" which I think is a .deb package.
Now it shows this error. Any launch options or anything to help?

Sorry if this is a duplicate, however I think this is a little specific

First Day Rough Patches & Questions

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 16:37

Just deployed CachyOS and had few rough patches.

The first was easily fixable just annoying in that there's no GUI interface for adding drives to fstab or to add a network drive. At least I couldn't find one so I had to command line in all 6 of my drives which was annoying.

Second I have all logitech peripherals and theyre struggling. To start the mouse had about 10x vertical sensitivity compared to horizontal which finally just fixed itself once i installed "Piper" however all the other functionality within piper isnt working for the mouse. LEDs wont change and the macro buttons say theyre one thing in the software but dont actually do that.
Is there a recommended solution for logitech devices; the headset worked out of the box but, I haven't gotten around to the keyboard yet.

Third was actual game issues, I looked up the games I wanted to play on ProtonDB and my main game currently is Space Marine 2, seeing as how it is GOLD and runs on steam deck I figured I'd have no issues.
However even after trying all the recommended proton versions and launch options it still wouldn't launch the only difference I could even find between their set up and mine was they were on a nvidia driver 1 version behind mine so how do i downgrade drivers?
To add to this question, where do you start when a game doesn't work on linux? What are the signs/tells or common issues and solutions what are the obvious checks that say a game has 0 chance or could work?
I did test and run other vulkan games just fine btw.

Consistent Stuttering across all games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 16:05

Recently started having this problem

All games have a consistent "heartbeat"-like stuttering, while GPU is being under-utilized. GameMode, FPS cap and other performance tricks don't work.

i tested Delta Force, CS2, BeamNG, TF2, HL2 and Splitgate 2 so its not game-specific. I'm lost here, is it hardware or software issue? its also way worse than it looks like in video.

My Specs:

Kernel: 6.16.8-arch3-1 (64-bit)

Graphics Platform: Wayland

Mesa: 25.2.3-2

Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i3-10100F CPU @ 3.60GHz

Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)

Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 7600

output of inxi -Fxz

/proc/interrupts

Needing help with my Logitech G923 (PS version) pedals (inverted axes)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 15:37

I bought this thing a couple months ago, and have been struggling with it ever since. According to https://github.com/JacKeTUs/linux-steering-wheels and https://github.com/berarma/new-lg4ff, it should work fine. I've installed the new-lg4ff driver and Oversteer.

It shows up in Oversteer and everything looks proper there, but the pedals' axes are inverted (evtest shows a value of 0 when the pedals are pushed down, and 255 when they're at rest). This means that pretty much every game thinks the throttle is always maxed.

I've tried making a custom mapping in SDL2 Gamepad Mapper, but couldn't figure out where to set "SDL_GAMECONTROLLERCONFIG" so that all games (including those run through Proton) would see it. Even if this did work, it's less than ideal as I'd be losing a fair bit of inputs/functionality from the wheel that don't exist on a gamepad... I even looked into the module's sysfs entries but couldn't find anything useful.

Any help with this would be hugely appreciated. As it stands, I'm limited to the small handful of games that let you invert the axis of the pedals in the game settings, and it's a pretty weak selection. :\

Looking for a symmetric, lightweight (~80g), wireless gaming mouse with atleast 4 extra buttons

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 14:42

Hello, I am trying to upgrade from my too old Logitech G305. I loved this mouse, especially when I started using it with an AAA Battery (I put an aluminum foil piece in it). It weights around 80g and has the perfect shape for me. So basically I am looking for a mouse just like G305 with some extra buttons.

The mouse should:
- symmetric shape
- lightweight (70g-90g)
- wireless
- gaming performance (atleast 1000hz polling rate, playing FPS)
- atleast 4 programmable extra buttons
BIG BONUS: I would love it if it would have a tilt wheel or a thumb wheel. But only as a bonus.

My research:
- CHERRY XTRFY M50: Tried it, very poor build, scroll wheel not really responsive
- Razer DeathAdder V2 X: wanted to order it, but I saw it also uses batteries. I found it annyoing with my G305 so I would prefer without battery use.
-CORSAIR NIGHTSABRE WIRELESS: Should I try it? It is a bit expensive but I would buy it if there are no better options
- Aerox 5 Wireless. Looked good to me and I ordered it. But it does look a bit bulkier on https://www.eloshapes.com/ so I am unsure whether I will like it.

I would love to hear from you guys :)

I need a linux supporting PCIE wireless card

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 14:14

The one I have works, but the distance from my pc and the router in a shared home is not. My phone, and laptop have full/nearly full coverage from the router even when next to my PC. My PC averages from from 1 bar to 2 bars connection. Its still pretty decent speed when gaming and some streaming. but I want to switch to a card that has a wider range like my laptop and phone. For reference i'm on the second story. My router is on the first floor near the front door.

Hold-keybinds don't work (ArmA Reforger)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 13:41

I'm currently trying out ArmA Reforger on a Linux setup and ran into the problem of almost no hold-keybinds working - as long as a white outline around a key means I should hold it. Inspect weapon, deploy bipod, lean out of a tank hatch - none work except starting an engine, oddly enough.

As it seems, I run it through Proton and haven't made any alterations to it yet.

Has anyone else run into this issue and solved it?

The Huge Potential of Linux Gaming and Gaming Preservation

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Oktober 2025 - 12:15

So I've been playing games on Steam for over the past year and holy damn, I'm so impressed. But it's got me thinking. Linux not only has the potential for modern mainstream gaming but also as a way to save games from becoming lost media.

Just recently I discovered that someone made a port for 3D Pinball: Space Cadet (an old Windows game from the Windows 95 days) as a Flatpak so that this game can continue to be played for future generaitons.

Why stop at Steam? I'd think it be cool to see more projects come around to preserve old abandonware games (kinda like the Ruffle project that is meant to preserve Flash games in order for them to not become lost media).

Happy to say I'm glad I'm gaming on Linux and hope to see what more comes out of it.
