How do I Enable Flatpak Mangohud in Flatpak PCSX2 or any apps that are not launched from Steam/Heroic/Lutris.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 10:57

Hello,

I like to enable Mangohud in PCSX2 but I don´t know how to do it and Googling hasn´t come up with any results.

The shortcut to run PCSX2 is:

/usr/bin/flatpak run --branch=stable --arch=x86_64 --command=pcsx2-qt net.pcsx2.PCSX2

How must I edit this to have Mangohud enabled?

I'm on Linux Mint by the way.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 10:44

For now I use Ubuntu but I want to switch on Fedora. I use my computer mainly for gaming and on Ubuntu I was having big input lag or stuttering if I wasn't having as much fps as Hz on my monitor. I was wondering if I switch on Fedora this would stop. + I don't like snaps

Wayland troubles

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 10:07

Hey guys, so there's a lot of news on how gnome, fedora and Ubuntu are completely dropping X org. I get it Wayland has matured. X org is a dinosaur.

But I've had nothing but issues and naggles on Wayland. I switched fully to Linux a little over a year ago. Some of the issues and snags was fixed simply moving to X11.

With the recent news I've decided to try Wayland again and try and figure some issues out.

In Wayland. Windows and apps can freeze more. Running pretty much anything on steam causes games to show "steam_app_123" may not be responding. With close or wait buttons in a constant loop. (But the games generally are just loading up fine) it's just very annoying.

Some apps steam some reason jumps to the foreground. Sometimes causing issues and crashes.

Heroic behaves exactly the same. Non steam games and wine programs become unstable.

And generally the system is slightly more sluggish.

On X11 other than a longer boot up into the desktop. Everything works as intended, stable and snappy.

Any advice to diagnose and fix Wayland? Now would be the time to learn how display servers work. I was using Nvidia drivers (1050ti) then moved to AMD. (6600 XT) Early on when I made the switch.

Help choosing a Linux distro for gaming, OBS, DaVinci Resolve, and Photoshop (dual-boot setup)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 09:46

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to switch to Linux but still dual boot Windows for some specific games and occasional compatibility. Here’s my situation:

  • My PC has older specs but a good GPU (RTX 3060 Ti).
  • I mainly use my PC for gaming (Steam and some Windows-only games), recording/streaming with OBS, editing videos for YouTube (DaVinci Resolve), and some photo work (Photoshop).
  • I’m already somewhat familiar with Steam Deck and have experience messing around with SteamOS, modding, and trying stuff by trial and error.
  • I’d like a distro that works well out of the box with NVIDIA drivers and has good support for OBS and gaming in general.
  • I’m not afraid to learn and try things, but I’d prefer something that doesn’t require constant fixing after updates.
  • I plan to dual boot. Windows will be installed on one drive, and Linux on another.

A couple of specific questions:

  1. Which distro would you recommend for my use case? I’m considering Pop!_OS, Nobara, or Manjaro but open to other suggestions.
  2. If my second drive is Windows, and I download files while booted into Linux, can I save them on the Windows drive and access them normally when I boot back into Windows?
  3. Any tips for handling DaVinci Resolve and Photoshop on Linux without a ton of headaches?

Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry if these questions are basic—I just want to be sure before I commit to dual booting.

Current nvidia state on linux - my thoughts

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 08:30

Many people claim that nvidia is "slower" or "much slower" in linux than in windows. My personal experience is different - I feel there is *no performance difference*.

So I did some tests, and found that at least in some games it's exactly like that: no difference.

GPU: RTX 5070, open linux driver version 570, windows driver 576.

Game: World of Warcraft (retail version 11.x), exact same scene and graphics settings in both cases. Also did tests in cyberpunk 2077 with similar results.

Linux OS: debian 12 stable + xanmod kernel 6.11.14 + wine 10.7 ntsync enabled

Windows OS: win 11 LTSC IoT

Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 no longer detecting some of my peripherals

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 08:17

For some reason my throttle and rudder pedals stopped being recognized by both versions of MS Flight Sim the joystick is detected fine as well as my xbox controller , I have tired most things to troubleshoot and I am unsure what is going on.

-Changed USB ports
-Confirmed working in other games
-Tried to see if drivers were the issue (they were not)

Both games are running on Proton GE (latest) on Linux Mint (latest) AMD Ryzen 5800X3D and 7700XT (Kisak PPA drivers)

I have read somewhere that disabling the steam controller in Steam settings can fix the issue but this has not changed anything either.

If anyone managed to get all their controllers working please let me know how.

He can download EA and “install” the sims 4 but then cannot open the game, does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? He’s tried a bunch of things (i think) and nothing seems to work. He’s also tried using steam. Please give advice because I miss my sims (he deleted microsoft)

Marvel Rivals refuses to work on my system

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 05:54

Hey all, I've been completely unable to get past the logo screen for a couple of months now. The problem occurs after a while of playing/playing and then quitting, I get the error shown in the image. Pressing cancel to debug doesn't actually pull up a debugger, just quits the game outright and pulls up the crash reporter. I'm really curious as to how something like this has happened, given I use the default Steam proton versions that I presumably haven't touched. I'd appreciate any help!

specifics:

  • I've used most of Steam's proton versions
  • I've looked at Proton DB, no one there seems to have my problem
  • The crashing happens even if I uninstall and reinstall
  • I've googled the error in the past and found nothing of value
  • specs are down below, in full (if there's a more pleasant way of adding this much text, I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could let me know!)

If I need to give any more information, just ask.

And, thank you!

Modified Thrustmaster TWCS throttle inputs go beyond 32767 and are not read by jstest-gtk

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 05:30

Kubuntu 25.04

TLDR: How can I scale down / offset the input from one axis of a joystick device?

I'm having a very specific problem in linux as a result of a hardware modification on my TWCS throttle. I have swapped in an upgraded throttle axis potentiometer as detailed in this post to fix throttle ghost inputs. While the dimensions of the potentiometer I'm using are physically an exact match, the new potentiometer has a wider angle, so the throttle movement covers less of the potentiometer's range than the factory potentiometer's. In windows this was not a problem, joy.cpl was able to calibrate accordingly, but in Linux I'm unable to correctly calibrate the throttle axis using jstest-gtk. The problem is that jstest-gtk caps the maximum input value from the axis at 32767. With the factory potentiometer this would no doubt be fine, but with the new potentiometer's larger range, the angle it reads exceeds what the factory potentiometer's did while the throttle is above about 50%. The result is that the cap of 32767 is reached before the throttle is actually completely forward, and because of the way jstest-gtk treats center points, the sensitivity in the 50-100% throttle range is double that of the sensitivity in the 0-50% range.

Here's a video of the issue (the axis in question is #2), with raw joystick inputs being read from evtest on the right, sdl-jstest on the bottom to show the raw data somewhat graphically, and jstest-gtk at the top. About halfway through I reset the jstest-gtk calibration to show what the throttle does with raw inputs.

https://reddit.com/link/1lyix1b/video/sl575i3e8kcf1/player

My question: How can I calibrate this axis since it goes past 32767? Could I possibly scale the input down before it reaches jstest-gtk? (I'm thinking about something like a bitshift to cleanly divide by two). If not, is there some way to calibrate it using some other software which does not have this limit?

Finally left windows

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 05:27

Hi everyone!

As the title says, I finally decided to change my main OS, I chose Ubuntu because I'm already used to it, most of my servers run on ubuntu server.

I just got done customizing everything to my liking so now I'm setting up my games.
I noticed that on Linux my GPU (Nvidia 3080ti) is making a coil whining sound on demanding games, it never happen to me under windows.

Anyone knows what I could check and test to resolve this or there's nothing that can be done about it?

PS5 controller touchpad acts as mouse on Ubuntu (Moonlight client). How do I disable that?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 04:43

I’m streaming games via Moonlight from my main Windows PC to a Linux client connected to my tv (Ubuntu with GTX 1060). Everything is working well except that the PS5 controller's touchpad is controlling the mouse on the Linux side, which is causing issues with certain games. For example, when playing Spiderman with a PS5 controller you need to use the touchpad button the open the map. I want to disable only the mouse movement on the touchpad, and restore its original functionality.

Also, when streaming, Steam on the host pc detects the PS5 controller as a PS4 controller, so I’m not getting adaptive triggers or full DualSense support.

Any ideas how to:

  1. Stop the touchpad from acting like a mouse
  2. Get full DualSense features when streaming

Thanks!

Help needed to see if the GPU selector on volt-gui works well

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 02:39

I've been working on a tool that configures various Linux settings to try to squeeze out as much performance as possible, while keeping everything as user friendly as it can be.

The program now includes two renderer switchers (GPU Tab -> Render Selector), one for OpenGL and another for Vulkan. Example of how it works for OpenGL:
It uses glxinfo to get a list of available GPUs/renderers by testing various environment variables. It then saves the matching environment variables associated with each renderer string. Users can simply pick the desired GPU/renderer from a dropdown without needing to deal with the variables. Once the apply button its clicked the env vars are added to a script called `volt`.

The Vulkan selector works similarly, using vulkaninfo to identify and the Mesa Vulkan Layer to configure available devices (it works for NVIDIA too, i have myself a GT710 with the 470 drivers).

If anyone has a system with multiple GPUs and wants to give it a try, feedback would be really appreciated.
glxinfo is required for the OpenGL selector, and vulkaninfo along with the Mesa Vulkan Layer is needed for the Vulkan selector.

RC builds are available, as the switchers are very untested.
For source code, check the experimental branch.

What happend to the SteamVR Home?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Juli 2025 - 02:36

After more then a year I decided to play a VR game again.

But the SteamVR Home looks absolutely terrible. Also tried the SteamVR beta, as well as X instead of Wayland, but nomatter what I do, the SteamVR Home has a massive „tearing“ (not sure if it‘s the right word here) issue.

It was never good on Linux, but now it‘s really terrible.

Weirdly enough all games (both native and Proton) still work fine, no issues there.

You know that moment when you finally take the plunge? You wipe Windows, install Linux (in my case, Fedora), and dive in, full of hope, excitement, and maybe a little fear.

I was ready. I'd watched all the videos, read all the blogs, and told myself, "I got this."

But then came that inevitable moment: I got stuck. Something that would’ve been obvious to me on Windows suddenly felt impossible to figure out. So yeah, I have a confession! I used ChatGPT.

And honestly? It helped. A lot. I’d ask a question, describe what I was trying to do, and it would usually give me a solid answer, sometimes even the exact command I needed. Huge time-saver when you just want to get back to doing stuff.

But here’s the catch:
It’s so easy to run a command, fix the problem, and move on… and forget everything. Unless you’re documenting it or asking ChatGPT to explain things like you’re five, it’s just:
“Something something terminal... now it works.” Until it doesn’t.

Compared to Google (which now also shows AI answers before a stack of outdated forum posts) or Reddit (which is chaos but often enlightening), ChatGPT gives one clean answer. But no community input, no broader context, no why.

So I adjusted.
Now I ask it to explain everything like I’m a beginner (cause I am), including risks, alternatives, and what the command actually does. That’s when it stopped being just a shortcut and became a genuine learning tool.

Not saying it's a replacement for man pages, forums, reddit or YouTube tutorials, but it’s earned a place in my Linux toolkit.

Curious how others feel:

  • Have you used ChatGPT (or other AI tools) for Linux troubleshooting?
  • Did it help you learn or just patch stuff?
  • Any horror stories? Big wins?
