Really need help guys! I don't know WTH is going on? I installed 2 different Linux and they are all doing the same thing!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 02:24

So I've been using POP OS for a while, gaming through Lutris, wine and so on. Then all of a sudden, installers run but can't upack the files when the installation starts. I got some errors with a number 11 looked it up nothing. I decided to format and install linux for gaming so I went with Nobara, same thing with Lutris and Bottles. So I installed on a partition Garuda and same thing with both Lutris and Bottles, installer runs but can't unpack? I can't find anything online about this. They both have access to the files location, there is plent of space, everything is up to date? I tried different games, ones I know worked before, the files are correct. Any know what it could be?

War Thunder crashing on Ground AB

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 02:23

Whenever I try to go into a ground arcade battle as soon as I hit to battle (on the spawn screen, not in the hangar) I get the error messages in the pictures or WT just closes. It works every once in a while, but rarely. How can it be fixed?

Steam related wine processes write and read like crazy when opening steam until it's closed

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 02:21

Hi, I've noticed that each time I open steam for any reason it executes some programs from wine like d3ddriverquery64.exe and it uses like 140mbs per second on writing to the disk and also a lot of reading, this slows my comptuter and doesn't stop until I close steam, is there a reason this needs to write so aggressively to my disk?

I tried Linux one more time after having many negative experiences; Now I daily drive it instead of Windows 11

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 01:42

Hey there, a couple of weeks ago my OS viewpoint got flipped. I'd had a few negative experiences with Linux before on other PCs, (gaming performance was shit) and all of them were negative. I thought that all of the hype around Linux was smoke and mirrors..

Until I tried to install Kubuntu on my laptop. I thought to myself, "One more try. If I can't game, I'm done with Linux." And you know what? I installed steam, installed my favourite low performance game to test (People Playground, because it's fun), and hit play. I waited for it to start, and it.. actually performed well! I tried more games, all of which worked. I installed more programs, customized the desktop to my liking, learned a little of terminal, and then I thought..

"Why not just get rid of Windows? I can do everything I'd want on Linux.." And so I did. And now I'm rid of the bloat and resource-hoggery of Windows. Please, if you haven't switched to Linux already, just do it. It'll be the best computer decision you'll ever make. So that's my story about my switch to Linux.

Also, switching to Linux fixed a issue with my computer, as on Windows the touchpad didn't work, while on Kubuntu it works fine!

TL:DR: Had many negative experiences with Linux, tried it one more time on main laptop, everything works, fixed touchpad, switched to Linux forever.

Help! Can’t Change Resolution or Improve Performance for BeamNG.drive on Debian 13

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 01:25

Hello, can someone help me with a few things? Look, I’m new to Linux, and by new I mean they installed Debian 13 for me just yesterday. So here’s the thing… I have a government-issued laptop—they’re really crappy, by the way—so here’s a small specs sheet just in case: Intel Celeron N4020 Intel Graphics 600 8GB of RAM And I think that’s all…

Anyway, as I was saying, I previously had a modified version of Windows (TomexOS, to be specific) and I used to play moderately “heavy” games, like BeamNG.drive, which surprisingly ran at about 12–28 FPS for me—though I had to sacrifice a lot of settings and the resolution was something like 600×400, if I remember correctly.

The thing is, I installed that simulator via Steam on Debian, and no matter how much I change the resolution, it doesn’t change (it stays locked at 1240×700). I’ve spent hours in the terminal and in Steam trying to change the game’s resolution, but nothing works. Can someone help me not only configure the resolution but also give me some tips to improve game performance on Linux? Thanks.

(By the way, yes, I’m using Proton.)

(Dev) 13% of games in Steam Next Fest have official Linux support - Why we chose to support Linux, and why more devs should do so.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 01:11

I'm a developer working on Moonsigil Atlas, a native Linux deckbuilder that I've posted about here before. I wanted to share some of my thoughts on Linux support with you all (and hopefully other developers who may see this post).

We'll be participating in the Steam October Next Fest (which starts tomorrow), and I decided to look through other demos on the press-preview site. Surprisingly, only 13% of the games participating in Next Fest have official Linux support – only up 1% from the 2023-2024 Steam-wide average of 12% support.

Those are rookie numbers, we gotta pump them up.

Now, I know many r/linux_gaming members will rightfully say that a plethora of games run very well with Proton, but it matters for appearances. If we want Linux to go truly mainstream, having someone's favorite games only unofficially support Linux (through a compatibility layer) will scare people off who are less tech-literate.

From a developer's perspective, I think it also makes business sense to add native Linux support. Even if our Linux sales end up being low, the Linux community is *awesome* and has given us a boatload of gameplay feedback, ludicrously detailed bug reports, and have become our core playtesters. In fact, I made a post earlier about how over 40% of our playtesters are Linux users!

At least in Unity, it's extremely easy to add native Linux support. There are minor issues that developers need to work through (save file locations, shader restrictions, audio interfaces), but it only took us a day or two to fully integrate automated Linux builds into our pipeline. On the other hand, supporting macOS has been an absolute nightmare and has easily consumed over a week in dev time.

If you're interested in checking out our game, we're participating in the October Steam Next Fest – and have a demo you can try right now. It's an indie deckbuilder that shakes up the standard format. Instead of using energy/action points to play cards, you play your cards onto a triangular grid.

I'd love to chat in the comments about Linux development, share more data, talk about problems we've run into, or answer any questions about our game. And, if you're another developer, please consider officially supporting Linux! It's paid off in spades for us, and if you reach out via DM, I'd be happy to guide you along.

Happy gaming!

Anticheat as kernal module

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 00:40

I was thinking about solution to the anticheat problem on linux, and was thinking about kernal module anticheat. What if valve and the comunity made anticheat and exposed some userspace api for games to use. Would game developers agree to use such anticheat? Would linux users allow such module on their systems? Benefit i see here is that it would be open source anticheat with well defined userspace api.

What do I need to know before switching to Linux with an A770?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. Oktober 2025 - 00:16

Hey Community,

I'm pretty fed up with my Windows lately.
I tried to switch before, but I was, lets say, too optimistic, and I'm the somewhat "proud" owner of an Intel Arc A770. Experience back than was suboptimal.

I know this question pops up every few months here, but also the state of the drivers change relatively quickly - at least on windows.

So, how is it in October 2025?
Which distro do I choose? What should I be aware of?

The system consists of an 5800X on a Gigabyte B550 MB with an A770LE.
I primarily play WOW and a few other games spread over Steam and Epic Games Store. (last few ones: Anno, Halo, Satisfactory, It Takes Two, Kerbal Space Program...)

Please help me (get away from Microsoft)!

Thx guys!
