Having trouble playing ARK Survival Evolved
Recently I've tried to download and install ASE through steam, but have had some issues. The linuxnative version of the game does work, but the playability and graphics leave a lot to be desired. I previously played around 200 hours before I swapped to linux around June or July, but after swapping and trying to get back into the game, even just downloading the original windows version to run through Proton has proven difficult.
Just trying to download the windows version through steam itself is, as far as I've attempted, impossible. Downloading a version of the game other than the linuxnative version presents a 0B download size, and this is confirmed when I click download and it finishes immediately, with the game's directory left entirely empty. I did try just clicking play regardless, but it spat an error about the missing game executable. I've tried resetting the download cache, restarting my PC multiple times, repairing the folder through steam, verifying the game files integrity, and even changing the download server location. None of it has worked.
I have briefly looked into using Steam Depot Downloader GUI to possibly download the executable directly, but have had trouble getting it to work as I'm still new to linux and can't get the dependencies working.
If anyone could help me out here, then I'd greatly appreciate it.

Controllers on CachyOS
I have an 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4 Ghz controller I've been trying to use on CachyOS, and I'm not able to get it working. It connects to the dongle, but it remains totally unresponsive. Has anyone else had the same problem with this controller?
Is there a recommended controller to use for Linux in general? I've been eyeing the Flydigi Vader Pro 5 when it comes out, and I still have some xbox controllers, but those are all developing joystick drift so I want to veer away from those permanently in the future.

Anyone got Delta Force: Hawk Ops running on Linux (Proton-GE)?
Hey everyone,
I’m on Pop!_OS 22.04, and I’ve been really impressed by Delta Force: Hawk Ops — looks amazing, especially for a free game.
I know it uses a kernel-level anti-cheat, which normally blocks Proton, but I’ve seen a few people claiming they got it to run with Proton-GE after tweaking some game files.
Before I try that, I just want to know: – Has anyone here actually managed to run it on Linux without messing with the anti-cheat files? – Is there any safe workaround or upcoming official support from Garena/Valve?
I’d really love to keep my system clean and not risk a ban just to test it. Any confirmed reports, configs, or logs would be awesome. ❤️
Thanks in advance!

Should i move to linux?
Im using windows 11 right now and i want to know if its worth switching to linux.
Right now i like how zorin os how its looking but i dont think is the best for gaming , the next distro is nobara thats quite good at gaming and the last one is cachyos which i think is the best but at the same time hard to learn.
I tried cachyos before but couldnt run 2 cracked games, even when changing proton versions.
I want to know on which distro i can run lossless scaling and alternatives to msi afterburner, also i need someway to run cru software because my monitor somehow isnt set good and my gpu is drawing 20w idle without setting it.
Also why does linux use less ram than windows on gaming ? .
Cant i just boot the linux directly without pressing anything, i want to boot fast like windows?.
My specs are ryzen 3600x , rx 5600 xt , 16gb ram , 1tb m2 nvme.

1080ti NVIDIA Drivers - v550 gone?
v550 up until today was the (recommended) on my Linux Mint Driver Manager for GPU. One of the auto-update packages in Update Manager was for something to do with v550 i noticed in its title and didn't think anything of it.
Now my recommended is v535. I can also revert to v580 but neither work for gaming (rocket league in particular), where v550 worked great. I now get the typical white pixelated squares in regions and 2 FPS as per software/driver mismatches.
v550 is also no longer an option as a driver and 'sudo apt install nvidia-driver-550' points to v580.
Is there a way to make v535 or v580 work?
There was a kernel update alongside the v550 package update, so am I also right to be hesitant in just uninstalling that v550 package in hopes of reverting?
GPU -> 1080ti
CPU -> 2700x

BattleNet not launching after Arch update
I upgraded Arch yesterday, since then BattleNet is no longer launching. Launching the games directly is working fine. I'm using Faugus Launcher but also tried different methods like using Steam directly with no success.
Reinstalling BattleNet gives me Error BLZBNTBTS0000005C. BattleNet itself has multiple errors in the log for example:
network_sandbox.cc(302)] Failed to grant sandbox access to cache directory
gpu_process_host.cc(990)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=-1073741784
It seems like there is an issue with BattleNet's CEF (Chrome Embedded Framework) which needs some 32bit libs to run. I suspect the upgrade of mesa could be the cause for that.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Bad system performance while Steam downloads
I'm out of ideas and I disabled the shader compilation.
I dual boot with windows and in that other OS I dont have that problem so I guess its not hardware related.
Do you know how can I solve this? Thank you.

Artifacts and stuttering in Darktide on Linux (RX 480, RADV, Proton Experimental)
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to run Warhammer 40k: Darktide on Linux with my AMD RX 480 and I'm running into persistent graphical artifacts and stuttering. The game runs fine on Windows on the same machine, so I suspect this is a Linux driver or Vulkan/Proton issue.
For disclosure, I'm using chatgpt to troubleshoot and this post was also written by it 'cause english isn't my first language.
System details:
- OS: Kubuntu 23.10 (up-to-date)
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 480 (Polaris10)
- Drivers: Mesa 25.2.3, RADV + ACO backend
- Proton version: Experimental
- Vulkan ICDs: /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json
- Environment variables used for testing:VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/radeon_icd.x86_64.json RADV_PERFTEST=aco DXVK_ASYNC=0 gamemoderun mangohud %command%
Symptoms:
- Game launches successfully, GPU load is correct
- OpenGL renderer: AMD Radeon RX 480 Graphics (radeonsi, polaris10, ACO, DRM 3.64, 6.17.0-5-generic)
- Vulkan info shows RADV POLARIS10 as GPU 0
- Persistent graphical artifacts (weird shading, see attached video)
- Stuttering/framerate inconsistencies even with DXVK_ASYNC=0
What I've tried:
- Forcing DX12 via Proton environment variables
- Switching ACO / LLVM backends (RADV_PERFTEST=aco vs LLVM)
- Clearing DXVK shader cache
- Reinstalling mesa-vulkan-drivers (amd64 + i386) and libvulkan
- Verifying GPU nodes (/dev/dri/) and amdgpu module loaded
Notes:
- The warning terminator_CreateInstance: Received return code -3 from libvulkan_dzn.so appears, but RADV is correctly recognized and used
- On Windows, the game runs perfectly on the same GPU

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Polaris10 on RADV and DX12 games? Are there known workarounds to reduce artifacts or stuttering for DX12 titles like Darktide?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

VR Game Development on Linux
Hey so i am a game developer and I use Unity Game Engine daily at my work. Unity has by far the best support for VR game development (i think).
With the rumored release of the "Steam Frame" - a Linux-based (SteamOS) VR headset, we might finally see some real momentum for VR gaming and VR development on Linux.
However, the development side still has major gaps. While the Unity Editor runs on Linux and works quite well, the official OpenXR plugin doesn't support Linux at all. Many third-party SDKs (Meta, HTC) not only lack Linux support but can even break the editor entirely with compile errors.
What can you do to help?
- Submit an Idea on the Unity Roadmap: https://unity.com/roadmap#unity-platform-ar-vr suggesting a OpenXR support for Linux.
- Discuss on Unity Forums: https://discussions.unity.com/t/linux-support-with-openxr/916945/20
- Vote for this issue on Meta Core SDK
What do you think, will the release of the "Steam Frame" push this forward? How to make companies like Meta or Unity care about linux? I would love to switch to linux, all my games work there no problem. But due to this issue, i have to dual boot windows.

Just make it exist first, you can desperately try to get it work on as many distros as possible later
