NetParty - script for playing LAN games over the Internet on Linux
Hello!
I've written a bash script I named NetParty to easily create virtual Ethernet networks between peers on the Internet.
It's Linux-only for now, though I may attempt to migrate it to Windows later on. It is also meant to not be dependant on any third-party servers (unlike software like Hamachi), but it means at least one of the players, who will be the server, needs to have an external IP and a port forwarded.
What I wanted was a minimum-configuration setup that allows folk to connect and play in a matter of minutes, so it's very simple in terms of configuration. You can see the exact config steps required in the repository's readme.
NetParty uses WireGuard as its underlying VPN, so it's quite lightweight and snappy. I haven't done any benchmarks, but it is likely to perform better than solutions based on ZeroTier or OpenVPN, including Hamachi.
I especially wanted to make sure that LAN discovery will work correctly, because there are many games that don't offer direct connect - as far as I've tested it, it works pretty great, all the games I've tried (listed in the readme) worked without issues; NetParty seems to work better for that purpose than Hamachi and in fact even better than actual physical LANs.
Hopefully someone here likes it. :)

Games like Rust?
Sorry if this isn't the correct sub, I did ask in the steam deck sub but my post removed.
My son owns a steam deck, and plays it mostly docked as he's learning K&M, he wants to play Rust, but the game won't work with EAC, and in all honesty, if it did it likely run really poorly on the SD anyway. Are there any games on steam that will work on Linux, that have PvP, raiding and base building?
Thank you

Entire laptop crashing midgame
Took a two week break traveling and came back, updated my Nobara which I think is rolling release now so it probably took the newest drivers whatever.
Now when I'm playing Sekiro, haven't tried other games yet the screen just freezes and I need to restart. Sometimes I need to hard restart multiple times to have it run without just a black screen..
The last time it happened I was tabbed out looking at my graphics card and saw a few blue dots on the screen.

VRR in steam os desktop mode
Like in title I'm looking for a way to enable VRR (freesync) in desktop mode. I didn't find any setting and the only mention I found was post from 2024 steam forum ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/6689601154219417215/ ). There is also this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Variable_refresh_rate but I'm not sure how would that work in steam os since its immutable and it might revert back at every update.

NVIDIA GPU Randomly Unloads (RTX 4060 Laptop) – Any Fixes?
Hey everyone
I'm running Linux on my laptop and have been running into a frustrating issue with my NVIDIA GPU (RTX 4060 Laptop). The GPU randomly becomes "lost" and gets unloaded from the system.
Sometimes this happens right after boot, other times it occurs randomly during use, especially when I'm on battery power, sometimes after waking up from sleep — but occasionally it runs fine without any issues. It's inconsistent and hard to pinpoint.
Here’s what I see when it happens:
sloppy@cachyos:~$ nvidia-smi Unable to determine the device handle for GPU0000:01:00.0: GPU is lost. Reboot the system to recover this GPU
sloppy@cachyos:~$ nvidia-smi Unable to determine the device handle for GPU0000:01:00.0:
And here's the GPU info:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0000:01:00.0/information Model: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU IRQ: 147 GPU UUID: GPU-fa548473-cb97-41f9-00b7-8508a314098e Video BIOS: 95.07.19.00.26 Bus Type: PCIe DMA Size: 47 bits DMA Mask: 0x7fffffffffff Bus Location: 0000:01:00.0 Device Minor: 0 GPU Firmware: 565.77 GPU Excluded: No
The only "solution" is rebooting — but since it happens frequently, that’s not ideal.
Laptop: Acer Predator Helios 16 GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop Distro: CachyOS
Has anyone experienced this or found a reliable fix? Could it be driver-related, power management, or something?
Note that this problem followed me on multiple distros not just CachyOS.
I'd appreciate any help!

Controlpler automatically connects to android mode
I use a Fantech Revolver II WGP12 controller. When I plug in the dongle after my laptop is already on, the controller defaults to Android mode, and restarting doesn’t fix it. However, if I power on the laptop with the dongle already attached, it boots in PC mode. Since there’s no way to manually switch modes on the controller, is there any way to fix this issue or lock it to always start in PC mode when connected?

Finally BR on linux
monitor stuck at 60hz max on HDMI only
just upgraded gpu, going from nv to amd, but the new card only had 2x DP 2x hdmi. I run 3x panels, so with the upgrade i swapped one to hdmi, and it(the hdmi specifically) cant get above 60hz. Tried a few cables, panel is 144hz, but unable to run above 60hz under hdmi. runs fine under DP. game framerates are fine too. (this is a secondary monitor with the hdmi)
am I missing some driver or what?
Thanks!

Is it really difficult to run nvidia on Linux?
I currently have an all AMD laptop, but I need to upgrade. I live in Vietnam and it seems like all of the computer stores are moving towards nvidia GPUs: I cannot find a single one that will sell an all AMD one like I currently have. So, I'm wondering if it is really difficult to get nvidia set up as a novice computer guy (I'm not in the field and I only know a little about the command line and how things work...moved from Windows simply because I hate the spying).
I currently run Fedora 42 Gnome.

Anti Cheat AS Kernel module
Hey Most Off the time i hear that Kernel Level Anti Cheat IS Not possible because IT would require an own Kernel or getting Code into the Main Line for the Kernel. But what would BE the Problem in using a Kernel module to load Said Things when starting Up a Game? Since Kernel modules will only extend the funktions of the Kernel IT should at least in theory Work right ?!

Is there any good Linux bedrock launchers as stable and safe as prism?
If this flair is wrong, please kindly tell me the proper flair in the comments. I'd use, java, as i prefer java over bedrock, but this girl I'm talking to only has bedrock as far as i know. Is there a good bedrock launcher for Linux comparable to prism? can it help me load CurseForge mods, and can handle imported world files? and is it trustworthy to take my Microsoft account info? thank you for your help guys.

Asphalt legends unite on linux
Can anyone tell me how can I setup things on linux (fedora) so that I could play asphalt legends unite.
I tried installing steam and it doesn't allow this game to be played on linux. I also tried installing lutris but that too opens steam.
