CS2 is not responsive on external monitor

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 14:32

I cannot click on anything once I launch CS2 on external monitor, if I use only my laptop is perfectly fine. I'm using Fedora 42 GNOME, I have ryzen 7 6850u, I've tired many things to make it work, but nothing has worked so far. Any ideas?

Switching from Steam flatpak to ditro pacakge

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 10:51

I currently run Steam's flatpak version on my system (Fedora 42 KDE), it often takes a few seconds to "un-minimize" and sometimes completely crashes being unable to kill and bugging system shutdown/reboot. I think using the distro package version (dnf/rpm) would prevent those but I was wondering how the transition from flatpak to system package would go. Will it be able to keep games and data files and re-use them with the other version, does it delete everything or will it keep files but not use them because they don't use the same path ? What is the cleanest way to transition ? Thanks in advance !

Is gaming decent on Ubuntu with RTX 4090 and Ryzen 9 5900 ? Are there better alternatives ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 10:45

So about me, I'm a system programmer, I've worked in Linux for a few years ( Red Hat Enterprise and CentOS ) so the terminal is not a problem and I'm willing to put the effort in. What other distros are good for programming (Rust, C++, Ada), gaming and youtube ? I'm even willing to pay if there is some huge advantage.

I'm using a dual monitor setup, with one of them being HDR 4k. I'm gonna lose the HDR, right ?

I'm gonna be mostly playing, single player games on Steam, Lies of P, Wukong, games like that.

Thanks! And sorry if you guys get this question a lot.

Faceoff Pro Switch Controller / Steam Controller detected with no inputs

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 09:58

Been fiddling around with this one for about three hours now. On Arch Linux and trying to get either of these two controllers to work since my DualSense is on the fritz due to stick drift. The best I've managed is the Pro Controller just randomly started working after I installed joycond (I didn't even open it), though Proton couldn't funnel the inputs through. Steam would see the controller and could see every button being pressed, but no game could see it. After a reboot, it quit working and I cannot reproduce for the life of me what it was that caused this to work for that bit.

The Steam Controller is detected and seen by Steam, but has this same issue of not having inputs detected at all. The Steam Controller is not detected at all by any program other than SC-Controller, which I was trying to use in a desperate attempt to get either this Pro Controller or the Steam Controller working. The Steam Controller is seen by the program and when I press the Steam button on the controller, the menus all pop up just fine, though there is no output to any program. Same occurred with the Pro Controller during the one boot that it was working, though after it quit working, SC-Controller doesn't see it at all anymore.

I have game-devices-udev installed and am using KDE Plasma as my DE if it helps any bit.

I just can't possibly figure out what this issue could be. I know controller support for anything that isn't Xbox, Sony or 8bitdo can be spotty, but I've seen posts corroborating that these two controllers should at least work.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) on Linux - CachyOS - EA app is constantly crashing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 09:38

Hey guys,

I am having problems with playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Steam. The installation was flawless, but I cant start it, because that garbage EA app always crashes on me. It would be my first time playing it, since I am on Linux.

CPU: AMD 7800X3D

GPU: 7900XTX

Kernel: 6.15.2-2-cachyos

Steam Native

Original comment: I should be more clear: When starting the game, it launches the EA App (Installation menu) and the EA throws an error code at me and the installation of the app failes. This is the error code: INST-14-1603

Update 1: I managed to start it, by using a proton version 7´ish
Update 2: After that, I did some graphical changes and also switched to DX12. This led to the game, not starting anymore at all. The EA app always crashed.
Update 3: After several re-installs and leaving DX12 alone, I managed to start the game a couple of times with the cachy-os proton version.
Update 4: Now, all of sudden, I (again) cant start it anymore. The bs EA app is crashing every time. I even install the GE proton version 10.4 and it is just the same.

Anyone with the same issues? How did you fix it?

Switching to Linux from Windows 11, storage question

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 09:36

I'm ready to take the plunge, tired of Windows and I only play games that work on my steam deck anyways so I know they work inside the Linux environment.

Here's my issue, I have a 2tb m.2 drive and a 1tb m.2 drive. Windows is on my 2tb drive, the secondary 1tb drive has no OS but it's filled with games. Both drives are filled to the brim. My question is if this is possible: Have two 2tb drives installed on my system (replace the 1tb drive). One with Linux and one with Windows. Can I boot from Linux, access the other drive with Windows, snag the files I want, and format that Windows drive? I assume the 1tb drive without an OS can be easily found without issue but I'm confused on the Windows one.

Does anyone have Fallout 4/76 working well on an Nvidia 20 series multi-monitor setup?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 08:11

I have been trying to get it working for quite a long time now. When running through plain proton if I run borderless the mouse escapes the window, if I run fullscreen proton won't stop minimizing when I switch to a window on my second desktop to do something real quick which I find really irritating and leads to crashes eventually. If anyone knows how to stop proton from minimizing that would solve all my issues but I have not found a solution over literal years of searching. And no, enabling the WINE desktop mode does not work, proton just shows a black screen or crashes.

Usually I would use gamescope but it has been broken for about a year now and the "fix" always seems to be "coming in the next update" according to bug reports but it never does. When running in gamescope it seems to work fine, for about 2 minutes then locks up. Proton logs don't show what is happening, it thinks the game is running fine so the problem is in gamescope. I used to be able to use gamescope-legacy but even that stopped working. Gamescope-nvidia from the AUR does not resolve the issue either. Gamescope works for 99% of my games, only Fallout 4 and 76 are the ones with issues.

I am running Manjaro. I know, I really shouldn't but I don't want to put the time and effort into building arch from scratch only for it to have the same issues. I have tried XFCE, OpenBox, and even wayland using labwc. All result in the same issue.

I don't know if it is my issue is my kernel, Nvidia driver version, my WM/DE, or just my GPU series having a weird bug. If anyone has a setup that works, please let me know the versions of these that you are using so I can look for a new distro that might help me resolve this. Or if you know of a gamescope version that I can compile that works that would be amazing.

Mesa - supporting multiple GPU generations on latest version

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 07:51

Hi, I got confused bit lately with Mesa and wonder if that would work.

Problem: I have windows machine with installed Radeon driver, this driver is supporting range of their GPU
E.G. I do have 3 cards, RX 580, R5 330, R9 Nano
AMD recommend Adrenalin 22.6.1 (WHQL) driver where all cards these are supported.
Now if I'll remove R5 and add brand new RX 9060 XT to the pool I o need to install Adrenalin 25.6.1 that do not support older 580 and Nano.

According to Mesa Radeon list all 3 are supported (?) https://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/
RX 580 - Polaris 20
R9 Nano - Fiji
RX 9060 XT - Navi 44

Question: So by using latest Mesa I'll be able to run all 3?

Tried many Proton versions, Assassin's Creed Odyssey always boots to a black window

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17. Juni 2025 - 03:50

I've tried Proton 9.0-4, 8.0-5, GE10-4, Experimental, and Hotfix.

Without fail, I get the ACO title card, then a minute or two later, it opens another window that captures my mouse (have to Alt+tab) but is just a black screen.

I left this running overnight (6+ hours) and managed to make it to the health warning, and the Ubisoft animation. I never made it to the title screen.

When do I get to press play?

Edit: I'm on Steam, and here is my system info:

OS: Linux Mint 22.1

KERNEL: 6.8.0-60-generic

CPU: 13th Gen Intel Core i5-13600KF

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

GPU DRIVER: NVIDIA 570.133.07

RAM: 32 GB
