8bitdo 2C on Arch
I have an 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired Controller.
On Arch, I followed the advice [found here](https://gist.github.com/ammuench/0dcf14faf4e3b000020992612a2711e2) using 310a instead of 3106, installed xpad, and the controller is now recognised.
Most buttons seem to work okay, but the triggers act as moving the stick, and once I press them once it is as if I'm holding right stick sideways indefinitely.
Has anyone had similar issues?

Question About Shader Error
So I'm extremely new to using Linux and I'm just trying to download/play games on my just built setup - I'm trying to boot up Horizon Forbidden West and I keep getting this error about Shader Model 6.6 that won't allow the game to launch. I have an NVIDIA 4070 Super and just downloaded the newest drivers, but this error still pops up. Is there something I'm doing wrong or am not aware of that I'm supposed to do?

why does launching steamvr always restart hyprland?
this happens when I use my quest 3s wired or wireless, every single time, even if a game is running. I also added the following launch options to steamvr:
QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb WAYLAND_DISPLAY='' ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrmonitor.sh %command%
any solutions to this issue?
also please ignore my default sddm

New idea for up-scaling older video games.
I've had a new idea for up-scaling old games, by using OBS.
I'm planning to create some Pokemon YouTube content and thought to myself, instead of scaling the emulator to full-screen, why don't I try OBS.
And I think the result looks great. the pixel accuracy seems way better than mGBA set to full screen.
The GBA's screen had a resolution of 240x160 (which is what my tiny emulator window is set too.
I'm up-scaling this 8x to 1920x1280 in OBS. This is one example, but I can only imagine this would look just as good for a lot of retro games.

Can't run KCD2 on Linux Mint
Installed KCD 2 from fitgirl, ran file integrity check and that came back alright. Running Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon with the latest NVIDIA proprietary drivers, and launching with Lutris. The splash screen shows up for a while, followed by the not responding message, followed by the crash report. Any idea how to fix this? Running it as a non-steam game causes it to not start at all. One other game that I have installed (Witcher 3) is running just fine.

Hello. I recently started to have very wierd sound problems on Ubuntu when playing steam games that I just can't fix and I don't know what to do anymore... (All infos, versions andfull problem in comment)
The Problem:
Like said, I'm on Ubuntu for a few weeks now, also installed steam and played some games since day 1. Everything worked good till 2 days ago. All audio just randomly died while playing. The game's audio, system sounds and also the browser that was playing YT just hung up and also stopped loading til the game was closed again. 2 things that make this wierd are that this happend out of nowhere while playing, no updates (that I was aware of), nothing. Sound just went away. And second, that this only happend on the build in laptop speakers. When connected to my bt headphones, audio still works and after disconnecting them again while having the game open, it keeps forking for a few minutes and then just brakes again.
Hardware, Software, version numbers:
Laptop: Acer swift 16 go with an intel core ultra 7-155h with intel arc graphics.
Software: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
kernel: 6.11.0-26-generic
pipewire 1.0.5-1ubuntu3
audio controller: Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation Meteor Lake-P HD Audio Controller [8086:7e28] (rev 20)
Kernel driver in use: sof-audio-pci-intel-mtl
What I alr tried:
I installed steam through the browser, not snap!
I alr checked if it's using pipewire which, yes. Pipewire active (running) and Pulseaudio is inactive (dead)
I restarted/reinstalled pipewire ;-alsa ;-pulse ;-jack and wireplumber (yesterday)
Increasing the default.clock.quantum and node.latency from 2048 (normal) in steps to 8192 which also did nothing.
Ofc updated and reinstalled everything possibleto the newest version available (yesterday)through the terminal. (steam, kernel and so on)
looked with pavucontrol for blocked devices (found nothing)
tried using all recent proton versions on steam
checked the pipewire status when everything worked which gave a bunch of: MLPc pipewire[3398]: spa.alsa: hw:sofhdadspp: (375 suppressed) snd_pcm_avail after recover: Broken pipe
In GRUB, tried diff kernel parameters for SOF by changing the line with "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=" namely: probe_mask=0x1; dmic_cfg=3; dmic_cfg=1 and dmic_detect=0 (shortnend it a bit here)
What kind of worked:
while changing the SOF kernel parameter, dmic_detect=0 fixed the problem but the obviously, the mic wasn't working anymore so this isn't really an option for playing with friends and stuff. And this is my current situation.
Update: While writing this very text, I got distracted, tried starting the game again, and after restarting steam for like 5 times now, it randomly started to work again, did for like half an hour and now broke again without me even touching anything?!?!!? Like WTF IS THIS!?
Help would be appreciated and I can provide more infos if needed.

Multiple monitor resolutions with Wayland
Hi!
Ive been trying to fix for some time my issue with Wayland and multiple monitors with different resolutions.
Long story short I upgraded my 2x 1080p setup to 1x 1080p and 1x 1440p. The 1080p is on the left side.
Now then when I launch games in native wayland with ProtonGE10-3 or 10-4 and launch option PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 (I know, experimental) I have two issues:
1. The game defaults to LEFTMOST monitor, so if the game has no way of changing the monitor in the game settings it will most likely remain there, as sometimes KDE window manager doesn't properly switch the game to another monitor
2. Since it defaults to leftmost monitor the games are in 1080p even after forcing them on a main monitor with no option to raise the resolution to 1440p.
One solution that I found was switching the positioning of the monitors in KDE, so my main monitor is on the left side and 1080p monitor on the right side, but it is not a perfect solution.
Do you have any tips that could help me with that issue? On xWayland it works perfectly, but in some games I'm losing a lot of FPS this way.
I'm on AMD 3700x and 6700xt. Fedora 42 KDE with everything updated.
Funny enough on 2x 1080p monitors it wasn't an issue at all (at least on 10-3 Proton. On 10-4 it was an issue with game positioning), and games launched on the main, right monitor.
Another funny issue I have is Total War Warhammer 3 launcher NOT launching on native wayland when I'm on 1440p monitor. On 2x 1080p it worked without any issues and it is very painful, as without native wayland this game runs like crap for me (the campaign map at least). Like its not even funny how on xWayland I have 30fps on campaign map while on native wayland it was (on 1080) 72+ fps. I assume that some of the FPS drop is obviously due to higher resolution, but not 40 fps.

X.Org Server 21.1.17 & XWayland 24.1.7 Fix The Latest Batch Of Security Issues. I thought it was dead due to be supassed by Wayland
Significantly lower FPS for most games in Linux than Windows
I have ~15 fps difference between games on Windows and in my EndeavourOS. I use latest ProtonGE, drivers, gamemode, and gamescope. I am on Wayland but I don’t see any difference in X11, likely because of gamescope.
I am pretty sure this just an Nvidia issue but aside from changing kernels I have tried everything I can to close the gap. I use the flatpak for Heroic Games launcher to play the games along with the gamescope and gamemode integration.
I do suspect my gamescope is maybe not working correctly, but again I did not see any difference between playing in X11 vs Wayland. Any tips? I am out of ideas I don’t think even changing kernels will even close that much of a gap.

Lutris freezing with WineTricks
Hey everyone, finally make the change from Windows to Linux, I initially installed Garuda and got everything up and working on steam and Lutris, I then felt confident enough to try another distro that wasn't as bloated and a visual eyesore like Garuda, so went with EndevourOS.
So far everything has been good, steam works, however I cant seem to be able to launch winetricks through Lutris to install dependencies.
Things I have tried:
-Running with Lutris Runtime disabled.
-Moving the winetricks folder in the game config to another location/drive.
I seem to be able to launch WineTricks through the terminal, but as soon as I use Lutris as click on WineTricks with the arrow the app will freeze until I have to terminate it.
Is there a way to fix this, or perhaps a workaround where I can manually install the dependencies and then point Lutris to the folder?
Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Stick with Mint or move to Fedora (4080 Super)
Hi All!
I am on the following setup:
Ryzen7 7800x3d
Nvidia 4080 SUPER
Linux Mint with Cinnamon and Kernel 6.8.0-60
I have seen that Mint is not great for gaming on linux, but i havent had super great experience with normal usage on Arch or Arch-based distros like CachyOS or EndeavorOS. I always end up getting werid graphical artifacts on wayland, but I know that x11 also has apparrantlya bunch of security issues and its outdated and not maintained. I have never tried Fedora before but I dont want to switch if im not really gaining anything of substance.
Do you think for my setup that swapping from linux mint to fedora would be worth it? If so, why or why not?

Steam web helper process going crazy on the cpu
I wonder if I can block it, that thing is eating up to 1 full core of cpu time at times.
It gets recreated whenever I kill it.

Why is Subnautica so glitchy?
I'm getting weird glitches all over Subnautica.
This is just one example. There's also weird rectangles on walls when shining a light on them that disappear as you get closer, Level geometry unloading on Aurora, and some artifacts around creatures, glitching fast, can't describe it.
Here's the rest of the examples:
There's other glitches that i didn't bother to record.
I've played Subnautica on Linux before, i've never seen this. I have some mods, but mostly QoL stuff and such, and i played with mods before, it wasn't glitchy. I also tried multiple Proton versions, they all behave the same.
Some other games i tried aren't glitchy either.
CachyOS, Plasma Wayland.
