Roblox on linux without Sober?
I'm on Debian 11, and Sober does not run on my end. I can't update to 12 since my laptop is practically a potato.
Is there any other way of running Roblox? I've read that it's not possible with Wine since they banned that some time ago. I'm assuming it's the same for Proton.

Ubuntu 22.04 4K resolution low FPS / stuttering
I have set up Ubuntu 22.04 in Dual boot with Windows 11. I also have an RTX3060 Laptop GPU. I'm using X11.
I recently bought a 4K monitor that works perfectly on Windows. When I use it on Ubuntu, I see annoying stuttering, especially when scrolling.
The issue doesn't happen at 2K or FHD. The problem doesn't occur on the internal monitor.
I tried different Nvidia drivers and it's the same issue. My current Nvidia driver is 550. Here is the output of nvidia-smi:
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | NVIDIA-SMI 550.120 Driver Version: 550.120 CUDA Version: 12.4 | |-----------------------------------------+------------------------+----------------------+ | GPU Name Persistence-M | Bus-Id Disp.A | Volatile Uncorr. I tried Force Full Composition Pipeline but it's the same issue.
The only thing that works is setting the preferred mode in PowerMizer to maximum performance, but it consumes more power and fan sound becomes higher.

2K finally removed their launcher *yay*
They finally removed it, no more tinkering. I have Mafia 1 - 3 and both Bioshock 1 - 2 Remastered. I guess they removed from all of their games.

Some games underneath proton just don't launch
Sorry in advance if this post seems kinda scattered, my brain is like a rodent on a running wheel and it shows in my reddit tech support posts, but I will try and organize myself here. So this has been an issues ive faced with a few games now but to keep it simple I'm trying to run mgs1 from the master collection.
Issue: when I click play the button just says "launching" then "stop" then the button just goes back to play.
Things I've tried(no specific order): I've made sure DXVK, faudio, and vulkan are installed. I've verified the integrity of game files. I've updated everything on my system using pacman, flatpak and yay. And I've tried running it on both Wayland and X11. I've tried just flat out reinstalling the game.
System info: I'm running endeavoros with KDE on Wayland. Using an rtx 3070 with a Ryzen 9 5900x on 32 gigs of ram. I did put the proton log on a paste bin as well which can be found here https://pastebin.com/jgvh7rUS
I tried to include as much info as I possibly could but, my monkey brain isn't perfect so if I missed something please be gentle

Use Capture Card for Sending Windows Video to Linux?
Has anyone ever used a capture card to share the windows screen on a linux machine? How bad is latency? Any other issues to consider?

Why don't we Linux gamers do to Riot Games what TF2 gamers did to valve?
Hey, I am here to speak about the idea of us collecting signatures and sending them to Riot Games so they can at least notice us and know that we exist us a community, we will try to bring League of Legends and Valorant to Linux or at least show our self to them so they may consider the existence of our Linux gaming community and know that we Linux users want to play their games
If everyone is standing with this, It may work So what we should do?- We need to create a website (I can contribute to this)
- We need to reach to Linux YouTubers and bloggers so they help us by telling the world about the #riotGamesOnLinux movement
- We need to collect signatures
- And do the final step, which is handing them to Riot Games
I know it seems like it's a joke, and we can't do anything, but trying is worth it to show our community to those companies so they may consider the existence of our community

Final Fantasy XIV -- What causes this?
I'm having this weird random video noise shit happen in this game. This is a fresh install so I don't have anything else to compare it to. The GPU is literally 60 days old so I don't think it's the GPU. However it is worrying because it resembles a GPU that's failing. The only way I can reproduce this is by annoyingly tapping the windows key to make it happen. Otherwise it happens whenever it feels like.
I believe it's software related because a few times the screens gone blank and wayland has stopped and I'm back at the greeter.

Chrysalis, my nature oriented base-defense game with randomized creatures and levels, releases with native Linux support on Dec. 9th!
game launches with wine but not with proton
Im playing on Arch with an nvidiia geforce rtx 3070 ti and an intel i9 9900k. trying to play lethal company but it wont launch through steam. what happens is it builds the shader and after that nothing happens. lethal company doesnt launch and the button turns green again.
i have tried with proton experimental, 9.0-3 and 8.0-5. all yield the same result. the strange thing is that lethal company launches just fine when going into the game location and launching it via exe with wine.
ive searched on google for the problem and found some one reddit and the steam forums but the ops problem always slightly differs from mine like the game actually launching but getting stuck on a loading screen and so havnt found any posts that have my exact problem.
any help is very much appreciated!!

Mod Organizer won't stay open on desktop mode
I've downloaded and installed mod organizer following this guys steps exactly https://youtu.be/aCpkD1PVfYE?si=Rr0lw0wZLCnHzUCU but now when I launch New Vegas or Fallout 4 on desktop mode, mod organizer opens but as soon as I touch anything on the screen it doesn't detect any touches and closes. I've managed to get it to stay open and actually use the buttons when using it on gaming mode but I'm unable to download mods or use Nexus. Any help would be appreciated.

R6 Siege on Linux
Now that Ubisoft dropped Vulkan support, my hopes of them supporting Linux has been destroyed.
The only reason I have windows installed on my system is so that I can play Siege. My friends play the game a lot and obviously I’d like to play with them. My frustrations with Windows are also at an all time high and I want to switch to Linux. What are my options of playing this game on Linux. I’m open to any convoluted solutions as long as they perform fine enough. Are virtual machines an option?
Any help is appreciated
As for my PC specs, I have a R5 3600 and a RX 6600, 16GB Ram, SSD, 650W PSU (MSI Mag A650BN)

Linux Gaming to the Rescue
Hi Linux_Gaming.
Apologies for the stupid post yesterday concerning an Amazon RX 7900 XTX price. This sub saved me a lot of grief and several hundred bucks.
I'm going to go sit in the corner and eat crow. Then go buy an 7900xt to end the never ending pain of nvidia.

[PSA] Are some games screwing up your resolution/displays when quitting? It may be bad calls to xrandr
(Disclosure: I am using X11, running Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon on Linux 6.8.0-47-generic with an AMD card, with an ultrawide for my primary monitor and a vertical-oriented 1080p as my secondary monitor. YMMV)
TL;DRTry this. https://blog.guntram.de/?p=172
The ProblemI encountered this problem while playing Minecraft 1.12.2 in Prism Launcher. Loading up the game changed nothing, but when I quit, my secondary monitor flashed (representing a change in display settings) and although it still showed my background, it stopped being usable -- sending all applications sent to my primary monitor.
Fixing this when this happens is simple -- just going into Display Settings, adjust the resolution for the secondary monitor to the correct one and re-activate it, save, then cancel when it asks if you want to keep the updated settings. This reliably put my monitors back the way they were, except in one case that I haven't been able to recreate.
However, having to do all this every time I quit a particular game was not something I was looking forward to. Especially because this is Linux! There must be a solution.
My (found) solutionMy investigations turned up this blogpost. The problem the user described is not the exact same as mine, but through testing I discovered the root cause was the same.
Older versions of Minecraft* apparently make an xrandr call before launching and after quitting -- the former to query for current settings, and the latter to restore those settings. This second call is where everything is breaking -- I am not familiar with the functionality of xrandr or if it is even the most correct way to be doing this, so I cannot comment on reasoning, but in my case the call is effectively disabling my secondary monitor.
I did more or less what the blog post suggested, except I put an xrandr script into my own bin, since that was the first location listed in my PATH variable.
*I don't know the cut off -- I only know that 1.12.2 has this problem and the most current version at time of writing does not.
My Detailed Process- Checked my PATH variable and confirmed my personal bin was first.
- Created a script called xrandr in my bin mirroring the content of the blog post, minus the case section.
- Launched and quit Minecraft, fixing the display settings as before.
- Reviewed the /tmp/xrandr.calls file generated by my script and noted the exact arguments passed by Minecraft when quitting, shown below (split across multiple lines for readability).
- --output HDMI-A-0 --mode 2560x1080 --rate 59
--pos 0x840 --output DisplayPort-0
--mode 1920x1080 --rate 60 --pos 2560x0
- --output HDMI-A-0 --mode 2560x1080 --rate 59
- Added in the case section from the blog post to my xrandr script, replacing the *3840* with the full arguments above.
And done! With this, quitting Minecraft no longer messes up my display settings. I imagine other games that would break them in the same way will be defused as well.
NB: I expect that if I ever change my display settings intentionally, that I will need to re-address this in my script.
FinallyIf you made it this far, thank you for reading along! I hope that this is able to help someone experiencing this same problem in the future.

Can't uninstall Half-Life 2 and its episodes after the 20th Anniversary Update, what do I do?
Days of searching and still a noob about what to do
Hi!
I've just bought a decent MSI gaming laptop and really don't know what to do next.
I thought about doing a Dual-boot with W11 and Linux Mint or Fedora.
-----
1) Is Mint good for gaming? I mostly do strategy games and some RTS.
-----
2) When should I partition my disk, and when do I boot Linux?
Can I partition and boot Linux even days after setting up W11? Or should I do everything right at the get-go, upon starting my new PC for the first time?
-----
3) I've read here and there that doing a virtual partition of a single SSD can lead to troubles later on, especially when W11 updates. What's the risk? That some random day my data gets corrupted and I lose all progress since the last back-up?
-----
4) Since I only have 1 SSD slot, should I then instead boot Linux on some external drive? (let's say, a 64Gb USB stick which should be enough for basic activities).
Will it mean that I'll have to load W11 first everytime I want to access Linux on my external drive? And will I be able to personalise my Linux, or will it stay in its 'factory' version?
Cheers!

Screen flickering when playing GOG Diablo + Hellfire with Proton
I purchased Diablo + Hellfire and installed Heroic Games Launcher. Though the game can be launched but basically the screen is nearly black with the area surrounding mouse cursor showing partial Diablo text if choosing Diablo (high resolution); if choosing Diablo (Classic), the game asks "Please insert Diablo CD ...", and the game complains with error after clicking the right hand side button (no text shown on it).
My environment is Debian trixie.
How can I fix it? Please let me know if more info is needed. Thanks
