Talk me out of switching to Linux (Most likely Nobara)
I know why I should switch to Linux, because fuck Windows (I think that is enough, right?) and with my research Nobara seems to be the best full package with Bazzite being a close second.
As much as I dislike Windows, it's the most used OS for gaming for a reason, IE it generally works quite well. I don't hate windows because of the gaming performance, it's everything else about Windows 11, copilot, ads, terrible start menu, tracking, and so much more that I want to get away from.
I am strongly considering taking the plunge into Nobara. I am by no means new to Linux, nor am I an expert though. Basically, Linux is not new to me, I've used it in the past just on my laptops or in VMs, never for gaming though (other than SteamOS on my steam deck) nor have I used it as my main OS for my desktop. I am tech savvy enough to do basic troubleshooting and eager to learn more.
With that in mind, I want you all to talk me out of switching. Basically I want to know the bad of what I am getting into so that I can judge for my self if it is worth switching because this is all subjective. To note, this will primarily be for gaming.
Key details of my system:
AMD 7950x Nvidia 4080 Super (I have a 7900xtx in a HTPC that I also game on but really want to try with the 4080 super because then I lose the GPU in my HTPC and the 4080 super will not fit in the case, Fractal Ridge) 32gb RAM
Not sure if other specs are important, but can share if needed.
Would very much appreciate any input people are willing to give.
Thanks!

Which Distro for Nvidia?
Hello, I'm rocking a 7950x3D and 4080S combo, and quite frankly want out of Windows, primarily for gaming and emulating purposes
I was curious as to which Distro I would be better off using.
Many thanks in advance :)

I installed ReShade following the github directions, but can't get it to load
I wanted to use ReShade for Oblivion Remastered. I followed the directions from github, but HOME key doesn't bring it up. I have the correct launch argument added to the game, too, in Steam. What am I missing?
TIA!

[OC] GRUB Theme Based on the Main Menu of Alien: Isolation
Plasma (Wayland) freezes when tabbing out of games
so, i've been having my system completely freeze when tabbing out of games. i can still hear audio, but it's impossible to make any inputs and i'm forced to shut off my pc
there isn't any consistency to it at all, seems to be completely random. doesn't matter what game, doesn't matter if i'm using gamescope or not. i'm not sure if this is a driver bug, an issue with the kernel, a plasma bug or what. nothing out of the ordinary showed up in logs when i checked. any advice is definitely appreciated
system info:
EndeavourOS, kernel 6.14.10-arch1-1
Plasma 6.3.5 [Wayland]
RX 7800 XT, Mesa 25.1.3

Is it possible to get Sonic Adventure 1&2 mod manager (or mods in general) working whilst still being able to select the individual games from the Steam OS?
In my experience when playing on Windows, to get the mods working, I had to access from the mod manager as opposed to selecting the individual games. Lately, I got myself a TV for my bedroom to properly dock my Steam Deck and I'd like to play these classic games like I used to back in the day on the Gamecube. Of course, I'd like to use some mods to fix a couple of things like the bad frame rate of SA1.
Does anyone know if I can use mods such as the mod manager on Linux distros whilst being able to select right from the Steam OS?

CS2 performing signifcantly worse on linux mint 22.1
I’m running Linux Mint 22.1 cinammon with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D CPU and an RTX4070 SUPER.
The performance is a lot worse on linux mint.
Test Windows (1920x1080) + competitive settings: 343FPS (min) + 473FPS (max)
Test Linux Mint (1920x1080) + competitive settings: 195FPS (min) + 273FPS (max)
Also on Windows everything loads faster, like a lot faster.
I also disable the shader pre-caching because otherwise it would take like 40+ minutes to launch and load the game.
I really dont if I messed up with the drivers or I shouldnt use this distro with a nvidia card. Im very lost. Has this happened to anyone else?

Script to automate download
Hey everyone! 👋
I got tired of browsing 1337x with all the ads, pop-ups, and extra clicks just to grab a torrent magnet link. So I made a simple shell script that automates the whole process. 🔥
It lets you:
- ✅ Search torrents directly from your terminal
- ✅ Grab magnet links instantly
- ✅ Avoid all ads, pop-ups, and clutter
- ✅ Download faster, more efficiently
I made this mostly for personal use, but figured it might be useful for others too. It’s open-source and available on GitHub.
👉 Check it out here: https://github.com/Lynnatos/dotfiles
Feel free to fork it, suggest improvements, or ask questions. I’m open to feedback and contributions!

The future of linux gaming
Do you think steam machines are making a more powerful comeback ? especially after the success of the first steam deck and the somewhat near launch of steam deck 2 .

Are older Nvidia cards still have trouble or is it my other hardware?
Backstory: I recently built up a mini rig for my summer house, it has r5 2600 and GTX 1050ti. I know this GPU quite old, but it's not completely useless and it was lying around so I used it. The one thing I was missing was the motherboard, and I found a really cheap one online (CBR B450, but that probably won't tell you much 'cause it's a Chinese no name, but it was dirt cheap and that got me curious)
So I installed EndeavorOS, installed proprietary Nvidia drivers and at first everything seemed to work fine, surprisingly fine tbh, Ghostrunner and Hi-fi Rush worked great. But then I decided to try something heavier, I installed Cyberpunk 2077 and Watch Dogs 2, and at first these two worked, I didn't expect them to work great, and they didn't, but they did work nonetheless. But when I tried to play those games for a bit longer, after some time my system just crashes, it happens sooner on X11 than on Wayland, but on X11 it is at least possible to force close the games because not entire system locks up, just the games, on Wayland it's entire system freezes. This looks suspiciously similar to a memory leakage, and I remember having some issues like this with my 3070ti before I switched to team red, when my games such as Hogwarts Legacy and Silent Hill 2 remake started fine, but after some time FPS dropped to like 3 and only restarting the game helped.
So my question is, is this really just a memory leakage (because Nvidia drivers still suck), or there might be something wrong with my other hardware? I suspect it's the first one, but not sure because I didn't follow the Nvidia Linux drivers' status after I switched
(which was btw one of my best decisions, I don't remember when was the last time I booted into Windows on my main rig, I love my 7900GRE it works perfectly, tho it sucks there's no FSR4 but whatever)
edit: small mistakes

Weird VRR behaviour in Gnome + Nvidia
I recently switched to gnome, because my Windows partition decided to delete my efi to my KDE system, but i have some issues with VRR in gnome.
In the very begining vrr just didn't work at all (I enabled experimental VRR support), but I read that some gnome extension might cause the issue so i disabled them and VRR started to "work", but it still is kinda weird.
For example in Elden Ring: Nightreign there is a cap to 60FPS and my monitor reports refresh 91Hz refresh rate, in other games its the same, even if I lock fps to for example 100 my monitor varies between 85 to 115hz, even if my 100fps is rock solid.
I know, that VRR in gnome is experimental, but I thought it's gonna work as it should, I'd like to stay on gnome but it's killer feature for me.
Also some games behave odd, as if there was some kind of weird latency.
Any help would be appreciated!

Fullscreen minecraft steals mouse focus on certain apps
When running Minecraft in fullscreen mode, certain apps become completely unresponsive to mouse clicks. The entire window will unable to click on, I can't move the window, I can't close it with the buttons. It seems like the apps that this affects are electron based, Discord, Spotify, Chrome Desktop Apps. When I close fullscreen in Minecraft they are fine again.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I can't find much online.
