I can't turn off my DS4 controller pressing PS + Triangle, any fix for this?

01. Dezember 2024 - 23:14

I think not even my controller turns off anymore on Linux (after 5min idle).

Everything else works fine.

I know I can force turn off holding the PS button for like 10 seconds, but that's kind of annoying.

I read some issues about that on Google, but no fix found, these issues are like 2 years old, do we really don't have a fix for it yet?

Minecraft legacy4j mod with split screen?? [Hyprland, Arch]

01. Dezember 2024 - 22:54

So legacy4j mod has split screen 'support' by using nucleus coop

The problem is nucleus coop is not on Linux which does not enable me to use split screen

I have tried other ways with various success:

Midnight controls: controllify makes the mod not launch but midnight controls does, but the problem is that midnight doesn't have anyway to interact with the custom GUI put in by the mod which makes the virtual mouse essential and slow

Legacy4j native controller support: I have tried using the mod's native controller support on 2 separate windows but unfocused input does not work which makes the controls only work on one side

Co-op-on-linux.sh: I have tried to use it but it always gave me sway errors causing me to have black windows

Does anyone have any idea of ways so I can open 2 instances of Minecraft and focus on them both??

Does PSVR2 work on Linux?

01. Dezember 2024 - 22:41

Hi there!

I'm looking at getting a VR Headset and there's a PSVR2 on offer for cheap near me. Has their performance on linux improved recently? I haven't seen much new information on how they're working, but from what I've heard they weren't in a good place for quite a while. I'm running Linux Mint 22.

Thanks!

My home wifi connection gets very slow (unusable) while downloading a game on Steam

01. Dezember 2024 - 22:13

I have the following setup:

My desktop uses Fedora 41 connected to the internet via ethernet, and multiple devices connected to my network using wifi.

When I am downloading a game on Steam my desktop internet stays stable. Still, all other devices on the network that use wifi get very unstable and way slower.

What can be causing this?

PS.: IPv6 is disabled. All packages are updated, and Steam was downloaded with dnf.

I think it is something wrong with my Linux network config, because when I boot on Windows at the same machine all works properly while downloading a Steam game.

Yellow flickering

01. Dezember 2024 - 22:11

I run Arch Linux with KDE Plasma installed. I use the Wayland session currently but this issue also seems to happen in X11. The issue happens regardless of whether the game is native or run through Proton.

Sometimes during loading screens or other situations when a game is fullscreen, there will be a yellow-ish flickering on the screen. It’s like looking through stained glass for a split second.

I recently starting using an AMD GPU, replacing my old NVIDIA one, but the problem still stands. I uninstalled NVIDIA’s drivers and now use open-source AMD drivers.

If anyone has any ideas on how I could remedy this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and may God bless you all.

Half Life Alyx Freezing Machine

01. Dezember 2024 - 22:09

I run Debian btw, with KDE and Mesa 24 from backports and a 7900 xtx.

I have a quest 2 using the latest stable ALVR to provide Steam VR.

This set works brilliantly for No Mans Sky and Mrst VR, however..

When I reach the Entanglement act in HLA, I get on a train and the screen starts to fade out. ALVR then stops streaming.

Taking the headset off the monitors go blank and then come back but the screen is frozen. The HLA window is just black with a gun overlay.

I have to physically restart the PC to get things working.

Anyone got any ideas on why this particular bit seems to kill the PC?

Just switched, can't go back

01. Dezember 2024 - 21:59

I'm primarily a VR user, and my PC with Windows (1050 ti, i7 3770, 32gb DDR3) struggled to keep up in VRChat.

It runs fine under Linux.

Not only do things generally run better, but my time from power button to opening SteamVR was cut by 10x. Linux made my PC actually run well.

DXVK-Sarek v1.10.4 Release

01. Dezember 2024 - 21:41

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m excited to share my Unofficial DXVK 1.10.x Build on the DXVK-Sarek repo. Designed for users still relying on the 1.10.x release but want the benefits of some modern fixes. This custom build backports per-game configurations and fixes, and later it will be integrated into my custom Proton version, Proton-Sarek, aimed at low end PCs.

What's New in This Build:
  • Backports & Updates: I've integrated fixes and updated configurations from newer DXVK builds into the 1.10.x branch. This includes support for 64+ games with backported fixes and optimizations.
  • Async Patched Build: For those who prefer async functionality, I’ve also provided an async version of the build.

Way more info can be found on the release. Thanks for reading, share this with people that are stuck on the 1.10.x branch, hope this helps and GLHF.

Wheat dualsense effects does Cyberpunk 2077 have?

01. Dezember 2024 - 21:05

Just wanna make sure i have it configured and working properly.

The only effects I'm getting are adaptive triggers Left trigger has some resistance while aiming and right trigger has a gun trigger effect while shooting but only once, if i keep it held it stops doing anything.

And i get adaptive trigger effects when driving cars, also some resistance and switching gears.

The light bar i think shows red when I'm near enemies that are about to detect me.

And that's it. Are those 3 the only effects in the game or is my controller not working right?

For comparison, in Ghostwire Tokyo through Heroic launcher (CP2077 is on Steam), i get adaptive triggers, haptic feedback like rain drops, i think speaker sounds when picking up those green energy things, and i haven't paid attention to the light bar.

The controller is connected via the cable and pipewire for some reason picks it up as an audio device. Should i disable that? Is that messing with it?

I also created udev rules to disable the trackpad from controlling the mouse because it was interfering with games.

I know not every game has every effect, just trying to make sure it's working properly.

Thanks!

Registry Problems in Spore

01. Dezember 2024 - 19:42

I installed Spore off of steam but whenever I open it I get error 2000. I click Okay then a black window pops and and get error 1004, unable to push the Okay in that one I push the x and it closes the black window(Which I believe is the game attempting to start). I also attempted uninstalling and reinstalling it a couple times.

Some other people online have been able to fix it but they're on windows and they changed some registry stuff. I am unable to figure out how that works here primarily because I can't figure out where Proton stores the registries. Even if I am able to find it how would I go about changing it on Linux?
I'm running Debian 12. My Proton version is 9.0.3

Can some explain why Linux gaming runs significantly worse on my RX480?

01. Dezember 2024 - 19:32

Ive been trying to fix this for months now and i just cannot figure it out. Im not a seriously experienced Linux user, ive used it for gaming on my main pc for a bit for experiements and have a steam deck that i tinker with since its launch, so i have surface level knowledge.

For some reason my secondary PC i want to use for casual living room gaming, no matter the linux distro (chimera, bazzite, holoOS, ubuntu, popOS, fedoraKDE, manjaro, etc etc) all perform incredibly poorly. Ive tried using native Steam libraries and flatpak repos

Ive swapped GPU bios several times to figure out if its the bios, and its not, fans are spinning, and running games on windows provides expected performance.

Doom Eternal on my RX480 on windows will run over 100fps no problem, but will run at 40-50fps and no higher no matter the the graphics settings, and all benchmarks and games show its not my Ryzen 5500 or my 16gb of ram, it is specifically the RX480 that i simply cannot get to function on any distro of linux i tried.

I am currently running Fedora KDE, every resource i find and research says its not a driver problem since every linux distro comes with drivers baked in, so i cant even figure out if maybe the drivers arent working right or got assigned the wrong drivers.

Thank you all in advance and i will provide all information i can to help get this fixed im on my knees at this point lol

Problems with some games on Linux

01. Dezember 2024 - 18:03

I have a Debian testing box with a RTX 2060 6GB, a Ryzen 5 5600x, and 32GB of RAM.

Recently, I updated the vulkan libs from 1.3.290.0-1 to 1.3.296.0-1 and it seems the system can't identify the version, in order to play some games like CS2, RDR2, Diablo 2 Resurrected, and RESIDENT EVIL 4, for example.

When I try to play CS2, I get the error message "Failed to initialize Vulkan. Please make sure your driver and GPU support Vulkan 1.2+", although I have the 1.3+ installed.

CS2

I'm getting the error message "D3D12CreateDevice Failed." when I try to play RE4, and "Failed to initialize graphics device" with RDR2 and Diablo 2 Resurrected.

RESIDENT EVIL 4

Diablo 2 Resurrected

https://youtu.be/ieExqeQAqQY

In Proton Log, it says its failing to create vulkan device, even with the updated version of vulkan. I tried to downgrade to the previous version but it didn't fix the issue.

I'd be glad for any help. Thanks in advance!

Constant microstuttering after a random amount of time

01. Dezember 2024 - 16:16

I've been dealing with an issue for the last few weeks where, at some point while I'm playing a game, usually showing up within the first 30 minutes, I will start having some intense microstuttering any time I give my game input until I restart the game. I've done a good bit of troubleshooting at this point, and I'm staring up a wall, unsure of what to do next.

Behavior: if I'm not touching my mouse or keyboard, my frametimes are fine, but the moment I start giving any input

Specs: Ryzen 1800X, Sapphire Pulse 7900XT, 32GB RAM, 750W EVGA G3

Games tested: Deadlock (NVMe SSD), Dota 2, Phasmophobia, Nuclear Nightmare (the last 3 are on a 7200 RPM hard drive)

Mesa versions: 1:24.1.1 through 1:24.1.6, 1:24.2.0 through 1:24.2.7, as well as mesa-git

Kernel versions: 6.12, 6.6 LTS (Arch)

Wayland compositors tried: Hyprland 0.45.2, Gnome 47.0

I've tried to force my GPU into a specific power profile (3D full screen and compute) while watching my GPU stats with corectrl and mangohud in Deadlock. I see my clock down to the low tens of MHz while my power draw drops from ~150W to around 100W. I've attached 3 screenshots from getting this to happen in a Deadlock bot match so I could poke around (took around 35 minutes to get it into this state).

I had a very similar issue trying to play Anomaly GAMMA on X11 when I had a 1070Ti a year and a half ago or so, but I was able to identify it was libmutter and went away when I switched to Gnome on Wayland.

I'm not sure where to go from here, honestly. This definitely wasn't happening in August or September, and I'm pretty sure it started happening around the beginning of November. With swapping mesa versions and going to an LTS kernel to still see it, I feel like I'm at the end of my rope. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can continue troubleshooting?
