(CachyOS) Halo: The Master Chief Collection crashing recently. What proton version should I use?
Been getting a fair bit of crashes in MCC recently, and if anyone plays it you know that when it crashes, you get temp banned from the game. I do try to rejoin the match but it doesn't load in, resulting in a temp ban. I was using cachyos' proton version at first and it was crashing. Then I switched to experimental which worked great for a week or two and now it's crashing. If anyone here plays MCC on linux, what proton version do you use?

VKD3D issue
I think I mentioned this last week here on this subreddit, but I’ve looked into it further and discovered something. For some reason, all games that run on VKD3D on my system are running at my PC’s refresh rate (240 Hz).
I tested this in the game Peak, which offers three graphics options: DX12, DX11, and Vulkan. I ran all of them with VSync disabled and at the same 1440p resolution so that the FPS would exceed my system’s refresh rate, and my assumptions were correct: VKD3D has some kind of bug or issue that limits games running on it from exceeding the system’s refresh rate, even with VSync disabled.
So I’d like to know if other users are experiencing the same thing or if it’s just me. Also, if other users are experiencing this too, I’d like to know if it’s common, since I’m aware that VKD3D is undergoing some updates to improve performance on NVIDIA GPUs (which is my case) and that this will be fixed soon. As a side note, I’ve actually tested this on other distros (Fedora, Cachyos, and I’m currently using Arch), and it happens on both of them.
ps: i'm using the latest nvidia drivers available and used proton ge (latest) to the comparison.

Are these good frame rates, frame times, and temperatures for my PC?
Specs:
RX 9070 XT (gaming windforce 16g model)
Ryzen 7 9800x3d
32 gb ddr5 6000 ram.
OS:
CachyOS (KDE Plasma)
Launcher:
Heroic Games Launcher, GOG version (Game is cyberpunk if it wasn't obvious, should have put it in the title)
Resolution:
1080p (I know, this card should do much more, I'm buying a 1440p upgrade soon, I just wanted the PC built first)
Using FSR4 with the upgrade command.
Every game setting maxed out, with RT on Ultra (not Overdrive/Path Tracing, just ultra)
Just not sure if these franerates are good, I know most say keep the monitor overlays off and just enjoy what it does do, but I can't help but wonder if these temps, fps, and frame times are good for this hardware at these settings or not or if it's lower than average? Not that it's not perfectly smooth enough as is, just not sure. I just don't know how hardware at these settings is supposed to perform, I'm coming from an old 1050ti 2016 era optiplex rig, to this. Does anyone know if these are good?

Goverolay heroic launcher optiscaler menu key doesn't work
Tried different keys, the key shows in Goverlay, but when the game opens it says something like "press insert key" (doesn't say the key name, indicating it didn't register for opticscaler), and pressing the key I set in Goverlay doesn't work.
Edit: Shortcut key in OptiScaler.ini shows 0x4F, that is the key "O", but pressing that does nothing. In addition the actual shortcut at the time is "L" (though I think it was "O" at some point, since I tried different stuff, but none worked).
This whole thing used to work before.

Steam Controller acts like a mouse in Crimson Desert on Cachyos
Feel like im doing something wrong need help.
Hello Linux gaming Community. Just like many I have switched from windows to linux. However I have been running into to some issues.
Now while gaming on Linux is new to me Linux as a whole is something I have been becoming more and more familiar with as I have built up my homelab using Debian and Rocky Linux. So im not uncomfortable within the terminal or editing scripts and files.
I really like RHEL. So i decided to use Fedora for my first distro. I understand its not a gaming distro but from what I’ve read it seems to work okay. I installed rpmfusion through terminal, turned on steam compatibility with the proper proton version and while all the valve games worked flawlessly when i tried playing the division 2, middle earth, bg3 and POE 2 every single one had hitching issues, crashes and a non steady frame rate. Made sure all settings were good my monitor was on the right setting made sure drivers were good and all that. Spent about 2 hours researching and trying a bunch of things a nothing.
I chucked it up to Fedora 44 not being very stable as at the time it was like a week old so i switched to Bazzite and only installed division 2 and bg3 as it was 2am. When i booted them up doing the same thing on fedora rpm fusion steam compatibility etc. Frame rate was horrible. 25 frames if that. At that point I was defeated and gave up. The following day i reinstalled windows and I hate it but it runs my games just fine so its not my hardware. My specs are as follows
I9 12900k
Asus Z790 V-AX
32gb DDR5
XFX Radeon 7800xt
850watt psu
Things ive tried
For the dvision I did this weird work around with the ubisoft store and while the frame rate was better it didnt reach 60 just above 30
For middle earth turning down the settings helped but once again not above 60 frames
Also to add everything ran super slow, opening steam took more than 15 seconds, opening up any game was atleast a minute the divsion was like 5 and even then sometimes it wouldnt run. And while trying to watch a video and be in game at the same time only made things worse and even closing firefox took a minute.
While switching over to linux i backed up everything on a separate hard drive and formatted everything in the installer so everything was fresh and there was no windows drip in any drive.
Any suggestions and help would be much appreciated. I use linux on my homelab just like i said and even on my laptop for daily use so i would really like to get my main pc over to it. I understand Linux isnt meant for gaming fully and issues will come up but these seem very strange and I have only experienced these issues on Linux. Thank you

Notebook HP Pavilion 15 (Modelo: 310G4LA)
-AMD Ryzen 3 4300U
-8gb RAM
-Linux actual: BAZZITE
-GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 5
-SSD interno 256gb + SSD Externo USB 500gb

I NEED HELP!!!!
I NEED HELP!!!!
I want to install Nobara HTPC on my MSI B560 PRO-VDH (MS-7D18)
The system installs fine but there's an issue: There's a Black screen on boot. I can hear the Steam big picture sound but I can't login in the TTY because I never was able to create a user at all, I can still do manual partitioning tho.
My GPU: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060
CPU: Intel Core i5-10-400F
RAM: TEAMGROUP-UD4-320 DDR4-2400
I've:
Downloaded the NVIDIA ISO ✓
Redownload iso and checksum check ✓
Flash successfully and verify files ✓
Reset bios and disable secure boot ✓
And still NO user creation option on the installation wizard and black screen at first boot.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

AC Shadows (FitGirl/Hypervisor) - Exit code 2304 / 0 on Lutris (Linux Mint)
I'm trying to play Portal: Revolution (a mod of Portal 2) on CachyOS. I'm running via Proton and pretty much anywhere there is audio, there's this constant popping sound in the background.
I've tried many different Proton versions, setting the launch option PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 %command% , reinstalling, verifying files, and this exact same popping still persists. I've had audio popping and buzzing issues with other games in the past but it was usually at random moments which I fixed by adding a .conf file to /home/user/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/ with this:
context.properties = { default.clock.rate = 48000 default.clock.allowed-rates = [ 48000 ] default.clock.quantum = 1024 default.clock.min-quantum = 1024 default.clock.max-quantum = 2048 default.clock.force-quantum = 512 default.clock.force-rate = 48000 }I don't understand why this game in particular has to be a massive outlier. It did have a Linux version in the past but the devs stopped supporting it.

Need help using wired Switch2 controller on Ryujinx Emulator.
Hello I'd greatly appreciate some help.
I am using a wired PowerA Switch2 controller on my Linux Mint Ryujinx emulator.
I had drift on my last controller so I bought a new one today and out of the box, the A button won't map. It says im not hitting anything, even after resetting the config settings. When I map the Y button it shows as the A button. I've downloaded joycond as this guide recommends but it seems to have no change. Using this controller on Steam works perfectly fine so I'm certain this is a Ryujinx issue or a driver issue. I did not have this issue with my Steam1 wired controller.
I went and bought 2 Switch1 controllers for cheap on Amazon but I'd rather solve why my new controller doesn't work.
I'm on the current version of Ryujinx, the most current version of Cinnamon and my controller works perfectly on Steam(well as good as a Nintendo switch controller can) 😅

Switching To CachyOS
Hey everyone, I need some advice on something. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to switch from Windows 11 to CachyOS. I'm a gamer and I also love to customize my setup, even though I'm working with a pretty low-spec fucking potato laptop.
Here are my laptop's specs:
- CPU: i3-1315U
- RAM: 8GB DDR4 3200mhz
-GPU: iGPU 4GB shared (Intel UHD graphics)
- Storage: 512GB SSD Gen 4
- Battery Health: 90%
My laptop still works fine, but I run into a lot of bottlenecks and my frame rates often drop to single digits, mainly because of how the RAM is optimized. As for games, I've played and finished a ton – probably over 70 played and about 20 or 22 completed. Most of them are story-driven games and indies.
When it comes to customization, I'm currently using Flow Launcher, Windhawk, Komorebi, and YASB on Windows. It's not super heavy, but it's not super light either.
I'm Planing to buy another Ram stick to make it dual channel.

Modding STS2 on Linux: most Nexus mods need Proton, and I ported a mod manager
Quick PSA plus a small thing I worked on, in case anyone else is going through the same headache.
The mod situation on Linux
STS2 ships a native Linux build, which is great for actually playing the game but is what trips most people up when they try to mod. Mods on Nexus are built against the Windows version and ship as .dll files that don't load against the native Linux runtime.
The fix is to run the Windows build of STS2 through Proton instead:
- Right-click STS2 in Steam → Properties → Compatibility → "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" → Proton Experimental
- In the same Properties window, go to General, set launch options to: --rendering-driver vulkan
After that, mods load normally.
The mod manager
There's a decent STS2 mod manager already in the community, but it was Chinese, Windows-only, and only recently got an English UI when someone made a PR that wasn't merged yet. I forked it, taught it to detect the Proton compatdata prefix so saves and logs resolve to the right place, and built proper .deb and .rpm packages.
Repo + releases: https://github.com/jichuan-zhang/sts2-mod-manager/releases/tag/v1.1.1-linux
The English version on windows: https://github.com/Gamingjojo909/sts2-mod-manager/releases/tag/Custom-Release
Caveats:
- No AppImage. linuxdeploy's bundled libraries ABI-conflict with system libs on rolling distros and crash during file ops; .deb/.rpm use system libs and just work
- On immutable distros (Bazzite, Silverblue, etc.): rpm-ostree install + reboot, or run it inside a distrobox, or run the unpacked binary directly
- There are some issues with resizing on the top bar, which I may or may not fix before the Workshop is released.
Thanks for reading.
