Reddit Linux_Gaming
I don’t think I’ve talked to anyone that actually likes modern Windows. I’d wager, if every gaming studio started to publish to Linux and windows equally, then windows would completely get phased out of gaming
Please helppp
I just tried installing linux (mint) for the first time and it says grub installation failed fatal error, i tried again with same results. When i restart my pc it just goes to some command prompt line thing. I have secure boot off btw
after this I have no other pc pls help ToT

Installing XACT makes bo1 laggy
XACT is an audio driver required for bo1 but somehow it is making the game lag while it reports a stable fps.
And I do have NSync installed

Is the RADV driver installed on my BC-250 ?
Hi im setting up my BC-250 and i am not sure if the RADV driver is installed. The documentation says that if it shows (RADV GFX 1013) that means its installed. But the documentation also says that if llvmpipe (LLVM 22.1.2, 256 bits) is shown means that its not installed. So I am asking because i not sure. Thank you

Steam performance overlay shows wrong GPU info after a driver update
Steam has a feature to show CPU + GPU performance data on a simple overlay. Previously this feature worked just fine. I use Steam native client, installed from .deb.
After I updated my GPU driver to v. 595, Steam client fails to recognize my GPU and instead displays my integrated GPU's info. Note: this does not affect games at all. Games run just fine. The issue is with this overlay.
Do you think this is something that I should be able to fix, or is this something I should report as a bug to Valve?
I tried solving the issue by fiddling with the steam.desktop file. If I change this file's parameter "PrefersNonDefaultGPU" to "true", then Steam hardware info gives me this reading:
Video Card:
Driver: AMD AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor (radeonsi, raphael_mendocino, LLVM 20.1.2, DRM 3.64, 6.17.0-22-generic)
Driver Version: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 25.2.8-0ubuntu0.24.04.1
OpenGL Version: 4.6
Desktop Color Depth: 24 bits per pixel
Monitor Refresh Rate: 143 Hz
VendorID: 0x1002
DeviceID: 0x164e
Revision Not Detected
Number of Monitors: 2
Number of Logical Video Cards: 2
Primary Display Resolution: 2560 x 1440
Desktop Resolution: 3760 x 1920
Primary Display Size: 27.56" x 15.75" (31.73" diag), 70.0cm x 40.0cm (80.6cm diag)
Primary VRAM: 512 MB
And if I change the "PrefersNonDefaultGPU" to "false", Steam gives me this reading:
Video Card:
Driver: Mesa zink Vulkan 1.4(AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core Processor (RADV RAPHAEL_MENDOCINO) (MESA_RADV))
Driver Version: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 25.2.8-0ubuntu0.24.04.1
OpenGL Version: 4.6
Desktop Color Depth: 24 bits per pixel
Monitor Refresh Rate: 143 Hz
VendorID: 0x1002
DeviceID: 0x164e
Revision Not Detected
Number of Monitors: 2
Number of Logical Video Cards: 2
Primary Display Resolution: 2560 x 1440
Desktop Resolution: 3760 x 1920
Primary Display Size: 27.56" x 15.75" (31.73" diag), 70.0cm x 40.0cm (80.6cm diag)
Primary VRAM: 21474 MB
So it looks like the "false" setting makes Steam kinda try to read the correct GPU... but not quite. It now shows something about Vulkan, but still mentions the iGPU info. Also VRAM amount is now changed, yet still wrong.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Anyone else having problems with cache on cs2?
The other maps work perfectly fine but cache for some reason won't let me connect to the server or it will kick me after being in a game for like 2 minutes. Cache was my favourite map back in the day so its sad i can't even play a proper game on it.

I don't know anymore
I recently installed Bazzite on my notebook. Razer Blade 15 2018 GTX1060. When i plug in my secondary monitor, and move my cursor like i want to go over it, i won't even get it on that screen and my system freezes. As far as my understanding goes, it's because of Wayland. Didn't have such an issue on Zorin OS. I wanted to try Bazzite because it's really nice and gives me the feeling that my pc can be a bit faster and have better fps. The fact that i didn't notice noticeable improvement in fps in comparison to Win 11 on Zorin is just my observation, maybe I'm doing something wrong. But i guess, given the age of my GPU and how Wayland hates old Nvidia's, I'm cooked. By no means is this hate on Linux or Bazzite. I've really enjoyed it, even tho i struggled a lot because I'm not that familiar with technology in this sphere. So do i understand it correctly? Can't really use Bazzite because it causes this issue and the problem is unsolvable pretty much? I've enjoyed Linux, but Zorin didn't feel right to me, not much improvement in FPS and Bazzite which i love does not work for me. Ain't gonna learn with Arch based distros because I don't have time for that. I needed something plug and play. I guess windows it is, unfortunately

MangoHud does not show the use of VRAM on ARC Intel
All releases after version 0.8.1 no longer show video memory usage. Kubuntu 26.04, Intel Arc A750LE. Has anyone encountered this / been able to solve it? LACT does not have problems with this, for example - but in the game it is useful to monitor video memory. I hope this will not be ignored and will be fixed someday.
Also, no version can display any other data in video RAM.

Honkai Star Rail invisible cars
if anyone else here plays HSR, have you also had issues with invisible cars since 4.1? i've tried repairing and completely reinstalling the game multiple times, but it never helped. i am also using the 120fps registry edit
example where you can see the car's shadow. UID and TB name redacted just in case

Deck Shelves v2.0.0
The more I read threads on Installing Graphics Drivers the more ignorant I'm feeling.
They said linux is easier... and it is. This feels like Linux last time I tried. I've got a desktop, Ubuntu downloaded and installed today. The card is a 5070TI.
I have the download .run file from Nvida. There were not any instructions that I saw, just a file. Looking on Reddit, someone said just past this and (insert branch here)... WTF is a branch. Someone else said never ever ever install from Nvidia... I think that is what I was about to do?
It seemed like when I installed Ubuntu, it said something about installing graphics drivers automatically?
Here is what AI told me to do before I stopped to look on here before I mess things up.
""
Sudo apt update && sudo apt install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)

I ran this, thought it might be helpful

EDIT: Steam is saying I don't have any graphics drivers installed. This is why I think I don't. Steam says 32bit NVIDA driver files were not found. (Are graphics cars running 32bit?) It's telling me to run some stuff in terminal. I'm going to run that, I trust steam.

Solo dev here. My couch party game just got native Linux support. Free demo on Steam.
Quick context: I've been building Scales of Silence solo. Today's update drops Proton and ships native Linux.
The pitch in one line: it's couch party snake, but collisions shrink you instead of killing you. Tail length is your life bar. Up to 8 local players, serpents have different speed / acceleration / starting length / growth rate, 50 levels in the free demo.
What shipped today (v0.6.3):
- Native Linux (no more Proton)
- Native PS4 / PS5 controller support with proper button glyphs
- Performance improvements on Low and Medium settings
- Camera framing improvements for 3+ player matches
- QoL stuff
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4489580/Scales_of_Silence/
Demo is free, around 60-90 minutes, and your save transfers to the full game when it ships.
Genuinely want feedback. Distros, controller pairing, weird setups, anything.

Im am on the 4070 ti super right now but I'm not really happy with the cooling design. Is it a good idea to switch to the 9070 xt in the process?

Does anyone play Hunt Showdown? What do you use for audio, Cryspatial or 7.1 Surround?
I'm on Ubuntu 24.04, and hunt runs great through Steam/proton, however I can't hear as well as my teammates can and I'm unsure if it's Cryspatial or if I should install a 7.1 Surround to emulate it in my Razer Kraken V3 X headset. I've looked up configuring Hesuvi through Pipewire and plugging in a surround sound preset from the HTRF database on Airtable but I don't know if that would work on games running through Steam with Proton or not. I'm kind of afraid to bork my system up, I've only been on Linux for the last year or so.
Thanks guys!
