Adding Ea app as a none steam game
HI, I have been running the Sims 4 through steam since I switched to linux earlier this year, however I've been having issues with dlc I own through Ea. To try and fix the issue I intend to run the Ea app via proton as lutrix didn't work when I tried to set it up.
I have downloaded the Ea app through the website and have run the installer with proton, my question is how to add the actual app as a non-steam game, it is installed as steam_app_0 in the compatdata folder but what specific file do I need to use to launch the app. Thanks
Using pop os 22.04

What's tipe of support proton supported games have?
Hi guys, in these day i discovered that Apex legends have lost Linux support though proton (sad me), but then a question appeared in my mind. What support Apex Legends devs gave to Linux? For what I know is proton that allow game built for Windows to run on Linux, so what's the support that Apex Legends had? If the support it was only don't adding a kernel level anti-cheat or other that can break the compatibility or don't block the already using anti-cheat is more maintain the compatibility than support the game.
Don't take me wrong, i really appreciate when a company say "we don't treat Linux gamer as thrash" but i was curious to know if there is a active way to really support game on proton (without developing wine/proton ecc themself) for companies. And what of support (ex-support) of Apex Legend we are talking about (if i search more on internet the result is only that they are removing support for Linux)

Need help Running Baldur's Gate 3 on linux (Debian)
I'm having an issue running Baldur's Gate 3 on linux, every time I click play in Steam I get the following popup:
Clicking "yes" takes me to download a Windows .exe which of course can't run on linux. I manually installed the .NET runtime following linux instructions here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/install/linux-debian but the game still gives me this error.
Other things I've tried:
- Reinstalling BG3
- Completely deleting every file from steamapps/common for BG3 & reinstalling
- Reinstalling Proton
- Using Proton Experimental, 9, 8, 7
On protondb everybody else seems to be running the game fine, but I don't understand how to get past this error.

Can't use two wiimotes at once.
Both wiimotes work fine on their own, but if I have one controller bonded, I'm unable to connect to the other.
The same issue comes up on void linux and arch linux.
One controller is regular and the other is wii motion plus, but both connect fine on their own.

Anti cheat module?
I ve watched a video about why ,supposedly, apex removed support because there were workaround to cheat because the anti cheat ran at user level and the cheat at kernel level. Why valve wouldn't make a kernel module that runs EACs at kernel levels (EVEN THOUGH IT ISN'T SECURE). Closed or open this would open A HUGE VARIETY OF ANTICHEAT GAMES eventually. Am i wrong?

Red Dead Redemption running on Intel 8250 and UHD620 integrated graphics
Is PCMR a lost cause at this point? I finally had to unsub after today
The sub's crusade against technical aptitude has gotten more pathetic in recent years and now its incredibly ironic they call themselves a "master race" at all with the ignorance they promote. So much ignorance on Linux because the community has a phobia of anything that isnt plug and play or requires a sub-room temperature IQ to understand.
What used to be a place to appreciate gaming on custom builds has devolved to a sub of some of the most technologically illiterate users I have interacted with, with the most toxic crab in a bucket mentality. People post the most absurd lies there about daily driving Linux and everyone is too ignorant to test and see what is being spewed is nonsense.
Apologies for the rant, thanks for listening fellow penguin gamers 07.

Thinking about jumping the windows ship and i have a couple questions for yall.
So ive finally gotten fed up with the abuse from microsoft and im thinking about jumping over to Linux (Mint)
just to put it out there i am not *proficient* in linux i did a little bit of tinkering with kali several years back (its mainly why im toying with mint)
I do *not* want to do any form of dual booting. Ideally id play the games id want to play native on linux (assuming theyre supported by Proton) and for games not supported on proton or online games with anticheat id kick up a VM play what i want to play and close it when im done
1. Will certain Anti Cheat prevent me from playing under a VM?
2. If so is there any way around that?
3. Is there any considerable performance loss when passing through resources to a VM?
i also do a fair bit of VR gaming if anyone has any experience with that id love to hear it
Im also sure i have more questions theyre just not coming to mind right now.
Any and all input is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Wmv files wont play in dark souls prepare to die edition
So a month or two ago I played dark souls remastered and loved it but heard prepare to die edition had better visuals, so I played around with it and aside from iffy performance (which is normal apparently) it runs fine except cutscenes that use the wmv file format don't play, is there anyway to fix this?
Specs are: CPU: AMD ryzen 5 2600 six-core processor X 6 Os: Linux Mint 22 cinnamon De: cinnamon 6.2.9 Kernal: 6.8.0-47-generic Graphics card: AMD ATI Radeon Rx 470/480/570/5

new to wayland, not quite getting some things
So I finally decided to jump in to wayland since it seems like it's gotten fast enough and stable enough and it works with the nvidia hardware and plasma desktop I prefer. However, it seems like wayland decides which gpu to use and it seems to prefer the lower power options. My gaming laptop has a choice between a Radeon 780M or a RTX 4050. The 780M seems fine for desktop stuff and it has seemed to figure out that when I want to encode a video with nvenc that the 4050 is the better option. However, I don't really see a simple way to tell it which card to use when launching a program and if it's game, I definitely want the nvidia gpu that added quite a bit of cost to the laptop. Some games let you select from inside options like BG3, others don't really tell you which they want. I got used to having a tray applet that let me select between integrated and dedicated and that pretty much locked to the gpu of choice.
TLDR: Is there some way to tell the thing that I want it to launch specifically on the nvidia GPU when I'm gaming and it's on ac power anyhow? And also, a way to specify the radeon when power consumption is actually a concern?

Steam suddenly stopped working (aka it doesn't launch anymore).
I just shut down my computer as usual (w/ shutdown now) and when I tried to launch Steam after the next boot up, nothing happened (as in no GUI elements appeared) after several minutes so I killed Steam's process. After that, I launched Steam from the terminal with steam and got an error saying something like "Looks like Steam didn't shut down correctly..."
I started looking on forums and found a few stuff, so I tried out some possible solutions. The ones I tried so far were:
% rm -rf ~/.steam ~/.local/share/Steam % sudo pacman -S steam(I did the last one because of reinstalling purposes, of course.)
Even after deleting ~/.steam and ~/.local/share/Steam, Steam "re-downloaded itself," this error message still showed up. Also, I tried running steam-native (w/ the steam-native-runtime Arch package) and I still get the same results. I'm out of ideas and I'm desperate for any help.
System information:
- Linux distro: Arch Linux
- CPU: i5-12400F
- GPU: RX 7700XT with the latest Mesa drivers
- Window manager / compositor: Hyprland (Wayland)
I'm sorry, but I don't know what logs I should provide (either from ~/.local/share/Steam/logs or anywhere else), but if someone clarifies that I'll try to provide those logs as quickly as possible.

Apex Legends Steam reviews "Mostly Negative" after removing Linux support.
Looks like more than "3000" players were using Linux.

Best Linux distro optimized for heavy loads, ram and cpu?
I have an 8th generation i7 with 16 gb of ram. I'm using Linux Mint, but it doesn't seem to handle high loads well, in fact as soon as I start Android Studio or Unity (even just as soon as I start them) the temperature of the PC, CPU and RAM increases. I know it's normal in this case, but in my case the CPU and RAM increase too much in 3 or 4 seconds and the fan starts (clean fan and changed thermal paste).
For example the cpu goes up to 70%-80% and I don't think it's normal.
So I'm opting to change Linux distribution and use a lighter one that is optimized for heavy loads. In your opinion, for my case, which is better between:
1. Ubuntu Gnome, but with XANMOD kernel
2. Kubuntu (being KDE), but with XANMOD kernel
3. Fedora KDE
4. OpenSuse Tumbleweed (or Leap?)
5. Manjaro KDE
6. Other
I'm interested in the ones mentioned above in particular.
P.S: I specify that I need it for the PC to use daily for work and I need stability. Also I don't want to waste too much time in configurations, or in any case I want to spend as little time as possible configuring
